bringonUrban
Just heard on our local radio station that the tOSU/NU game had the highest rating of any show on Saturday night. Not just sports shows but all shoes. Beating out the UGA/SC game significantly, both who were ranked higher. It really shows that for all the dominance of the SEC outside of maybe bama, they are still very much a regional product. For the big ten to compete with those southern schools for recruiting, they really need to change some things...starting with more night games, even in November. 2 Quote Link to comment
Count 'Bility
the "no night game" in November is most hypocritical, restricting nonsense ever. How is it hypocritical? Because there are still games that start at 230 ct, and games played in the eastern time zone (pennsylvania, ohio, indiana) are half played in the dark anyway. Even here, 4th quarters are in the dark on 230 games, so what's the point. Weather? Cold? bah. Update. Get with the program. Big 10 is a great conference. Time to take the next step. It should be mandatory that Michigan vs. Michigan State games are night games along with Ohio State vs. Michigan and Nebraska vs. Iowa. The Big 10 is the blue collar conference that many people find appealing and can relate to. Urban Meyer is also a big name in college football which does nothing but help the conference. Count 'Bility
I want to add that the other thing that is kind of goofy is announcing "the" night games before the season. Why cant we do like everyone else and let it depend on the success of teams, you obviously want the potential great games on at primetime. Announcing them that far ahead time, even if you do have a good idea who's gonna be good, is setting up for a possible flop. Imagine if Nebraska and Northwestern both won last week, next weeks game with them would clearly deserve to be a primetime matchup. The Michigan St game last year shouldve been a primetime game, not Wisconsin and a struggling Ohio st. Quote Link to comment
bringonUrban
I'm pretty sure they are determined in advance because of tv contracts. Quote Link to comment

I agree with everything but this. I want this at Noon or 1pm every year. Quote Link to comment

I liked it better when this was a 2:30 game the day after thanksgiving with Colorado. To many distractions the morning after thanksgiving for a 11am game. Quote Link to comment
bringonUrban
I disagree, a 8pm osu/scUM game would be incredible. There is nothing like a night game at the shoe. Couple that with one of the greatest rivalry in sports and its a win win for the fans, the big ten and recruiting. Quote Link to comment

I always said a night game in The Shoe won't happen for that matchup for three reasons: 1. Tradition 2. Potentially too cold for the alumni's taste 3. People get wasted for the noon kick, can you imagine a 8p kick? I don't want people to set fire to my car Quote Link to comment

That is probably a lone downside to a nightgame anywhere, the fact that there are too many asshats association with any program that can't do a damn thing with out getting loaded and being a dick. Night games allow them to take it too far. Quote Link to comment
bringonUrban
Well, they have them in the sec... Lots of a$$hats down there and it doesn't seem to be a big deal. Quote Link to comment
VectorVictor
You know what's funny about this news is that our Nebraska/tOSU debacle even trumped the debut of West Virginia and Texas over on Fox as well. And if you'll recall, the 2009 Big XII Title Theft game was, at the time, *the* highest rated Saturday evening CFB game ever for ABC/ESPN. Even before we left the Big XII, Texass fans tried to claim it was their presence in that game which made it reach that status...even though Texass had already been in the same timeslot before against Texass AssToMouth that same season and didn't do nearly as well in ratings. Like it or not, the Big XII lost either their biggest or second-biggest media draw, and their craptacular long-term TV deal (well, decent now--crappy in 10 years), is evidence of this. There may be teeth gnashing about how bad this loss is, but this news should at least stoke some sort of flame in your heart that Nebraska is, for all intents and purposes, relevant in one of the areas where it matters most for the longevity of our program (and ingratiating ourselves into the B1G)--TV ratings. No doubt. Those were two iconic helmets going at it. Another reason I wish we played every year. Quote Link to comment
