A spokesman for Treasury Inspector General J. Russell George told The Hill on Tuesday that Issa had requested investigators “narrowly focus on tea party organizations.” The subsequent audit concluded the IRS used “inappropriate criteria” to single out for additional scrutiny tea party groups that applied for tax exempt status. The findings lead almost every politician, including President Barack Obama, to denounce the IRS. Several Republicans the audit indicated the White House had a Nixonian “enemies list.” Link to comment

That clearly shows that only tea party organizations were targeted . . . and it must be OBAMA! The balls on that guy. Yeesh. Link to comment

Junior
http://www.seattlepi...IRS-4608074.php Rep. Elijah Cummings, the Democratic ranking member on the House Oversight Committee, released more than 200 pages of interview transcripts Tuesday afternoon after the committee's Chairman, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), refused to do so.Cummings is seeking to dispel any notion that targeting of Tea Party groups by the Internal Revenue Service was ordered from Washington. Cummings released transcripts with an IRS screening group manager described as a "conservative Republican," who said that the targeting of the Tea Party groups applying for tax-exempt status started with low-level workers in Cincinnati. The witness also said that there was no communication on the targeting with any senior IRS officials or with anyone in Washington or the Obama administration. ... The release of the transcripts came after two weeks of back-and-forth squabbling between Cummings and Oversight Committee Chair Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), who Cummings accused of selectively releasing portions of the transcripts. Cummings called on Issa to release the entire transcripts, which Issa said would harm the investigation. Cummings asked him for specific reasons, and demanded he respond by Monday. When Issa didn't respond, Cummings released the entirety of the transcripts. Link to comment

Junior
Honestly, I would hope that republicans would be as outraged at Issa's actions as they were toward the IRS when they were thought to have been targeting conservative groups (much like how almost universally, democrats rushed to condemn the IRS). Instead, it seems that Issa wasted an exorbitant amount of taxpayer dollars in an effort to fabricate a scandal for the Obama administration, and the response on the right has been "so what?" carlfense
How did the story we now commonly refer to as "the IRS scandal" come into existence? House Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Darrell Issa asked the IRS inspector general to follow up on rumors that conservative groups were having trouble getting tax exemptions. The IG was asked "to narrowly focus on Tea Party organizations," and he did. That story's been petering out, because Issa continues to overpromise what's going to come out next. (This doesn't seem to bother Peggy Noonan, but the rest of the media's gone to sleep on the story.) What's the solution? If you said "ask the IG for another narrowly focused investigation," congratulations! http://www.slate.com...hing_again.html Link to comment
