QMany
I am not religious. I hear this term somewhat often. The last time being on Facebook where a girl was looking for a "God-fearing" man, among other things ($). What does "God-fearing" really mean? Are we supposed to fear God? Link to comment
Mavric
Usually "fear" in this context is respectful or reverant: to have a reverential awe of <fear God> Link to comment
Landlord
Mavric's spot on. Put simply, it's the idea of seeing or viewing God accurately enough to the point that it stirs something in you. Not fear in the sense of terror, but fear in the sense of being entirely small and insignificant in comparison, the way you might feel standing over the Grand Canyon or in the middle of the ocean. The implications being that if you start grasping how big and powerful He is, you'll pay attention and believe in what He says and approves of. Link to comment
QMany
Right on. I was always confused by the term. Thanks for the clarification. Link to comment
strigori
Knowing your religious stance, run, don't walk, away from profiles like that. Even if it doesn't come up right away, it will. Link to comment
