The Palin Doctrine - Let Allah sort it out

Recommended Posts

JJ and Knapp - you guys are just splitting hairs for the sake of argument - reading your posts - I'd say all 3 of us and Carl (we've done the majority of the posts on this thread related to the actual OP) aren't that far away in our position of not being entangled in Sryia. In the infamous words of Rodney King - Can't we all just get along? By casual ready of other threads - I would not classify JJ as radical right nor would I classify Knapp or Carl as radical left. JJ and I would be right of center overall and Knapp and Carl a bit left of center. As I mentioned before, I think, based on various topics, our placement on the right/left scale moves - In some areas I have moved more to the left - thus liberal and in some areas I've moved more to the right - conservative over time. Growing people are always 're-balancing'. I like the forum because it challenges my assumptions - I gain from Carl and others and that is a good thing. I hope I challenge Carl and Knapp as well. Chinese proverb: Learning is like paddling a canoe upstream - if you stop, you will go backwards.

I find it interesting that so many people think they are the center. In reality, most people are somewhat in the center because they aren't on either extreme side. That said, very very few people are ACTUALLY in the center. Almost everyone is to the right or left of center.

I guess I may have offended some people a few times by simply stating that someone is more liberal than me. Not sure why that is an insult. I am somewhat in the center but will gladly admit I am on the conservative side of center.

I don't understand the need to label others. If you want to tell everyone where you lie on the political spectrum, fine, knock yourself out. But why is it your business to label someone else? Especially when you continually label several people here incorrectly.

When someone tells you they're center or centrist, or whatever, why isn't that good enough for you? Why must you state, in thread after thread, they're liberal? It's not an insult, it's just incorrect, and it's counterproductive to a decent discussion.

I've been a moderate most of my voting life. I've taken political alignment quizzes and come out moderate/middle-of-the-road most every time. NOBODY falls exactly in the middle, but I'm about as close as you typically find. I've posted this before, and I don't know why it's not acceptable (I'm sure it doesn't fit some worldviews around here) but here's my political alignment:

And if it's a problem for me to debunk the Birthers, the "He's taking our guns!!!!" nutters, the "death panel" nutters (Sarah Palin, Hello!), the "Obama is a Socialist" nutters, the "Obama's Economy" nonsense, the "Obama is a Muslim" nutters, the worst of the Obamacare nonsense and other tinfoil hat theories, then go ahead and label me a "liberal" if that floats your boat. Me, I'd rather have reasonable discourse than talk about fringe garbage like that, but hey - I'm a whackjob leftist liberal, so what do I know? Amirite?

EDIT...

BTW - do you know why there aren't any threads where I'm going on and on denouncing people like Olbermann and the other MSNBC hacks? Because nobody here defends the far left. Nobody. Nobody thinks they're right, nobody believes in their politics, nobody digs in their heels and supports them.

We have lengthy threads about the far right because there is a large contingent of folks here on HuskerBoard who staunchly defend every utterance the far right comes out with.

If people stopped defending the Palins of the world, there'd be fewer threads about them.

Who are you talking about here that is "far right"? Why label people like that? Just because they don't agree with you doesn't mean they are far right.

It's not my fault that those who disagree with my views are often far right. To someone far to the right, everyone is left of them, or "liberal," if that's the word you choose. You can think of me how you wish. I know what I am. A centrist Moderate, and I always have been.

Sorry, your post got stuck in with Knapp's. He is who I was asking about his statement.

Who are you talking about here that is "far right"? Why label people like that? Just because they don't agree with you doesn't mean they are far right.

Do you think that "far right" is derogatory? :dunno

Not necessarily if it fits. Just wondering who he is claiming is "far right".

What answer would best fit your agenda here?

Why do you say I have an agenda? I'm simply wondering who you are referring to that is far right and defends every word uttered by the far right. And, who is defending Palin?

Just trying to find out who you are talking about.

Sarah Palin is far right on the political spectrum. There are people in this thread defending her, castigating me because I called her what she is - far right. Defending someone who is far right is a far right thing to do.

That's what I'm talking about.

I read through this thread before I posted and didn't find anyone "defending" her other than going against your statement that she is as dangerous as a radical cleric. Other than that, I don't see anyone defending her. In fact, pretty much everyone has stated that they wish she would go away because she is just plain wacko on things she says and she doesn't represent conservative views on issues well. FYI...that is very different than being as dangerous as a radical cleric.

Now, what I have seen is people claiming she is correct on this one statement that she said. In my eyes, that is far different than "staunchly defend every utterance the far right comes out with." Especially when I honestly don't know anyone on this board that would disagree with what she said in this particular statement.

So, I guess I'm still confused on who you are talking about. If there is such a large contingency, like you claim, I would think in this thread it would stick out more.
