Bo Pelini Turnovers in Big Games

Couple different things Army. Responding to pressure is purely mental. Protecting the ball and increasing pocket awareness is technique. I think Taylor has handled the pressure well, that's why he's led so many come from behind victories. He still looks like he could use coaching on his footwork and dropbacks.

I think Taylor Martinez played a "put the game on himself" style in high school and from Game One at Nebraska. The fans didn't exactly create that. That's just who he is, and it's what the haters hate and the lovers love about him.

True. +1

I just get flustered when no blame at all goes on coaches when it comes to turnovers. They've been an issue for Bo since before Tmart was here.

True +1. Turnovers, penalties, missed assignments and teamwide jitters all go to coaching.

I agree with the OP's general point that turnovers are an issue, but I have to call out the obvious bias in the selection of these games:

2008: You include a home OOC game against unranked Virginia Tech but somehow forget our bowl win against Clemson?

2009: If Texas Tech and Iowa State are big games, then literally every conference game is a big game this year.

2010: I'll give you a pass on the 2010 Texas game because although that team was horrible, it was a big game for our fans.

2011: Northwestern wasn't a big game. They were 3-5, again, just because a game looks convenient for a narrative doesn't mean it fits.

2012: All games listed were pretty big.

All I'm pointing out is this: if your point is "turnovers are a problem in general for Nebraska," that's fine, and you'd be right to make that case. If your point is "Nebraska often breaks down in big games," you can also make that argument, but please restrict the analysis to big games. Nebraska playing crappy against a bad opponent doesn't make that a big game, it just makes it a crappy performance by Nebraska.

I dont know what I was thinking by not including the clemson bowl game TBH. I agree, thats a stupid error on my part. As for the rest of them, if we lost, I considered it a big game. If we played a ranked team, i considered it a big game. Definitely could argue for more games being on that list though.

2008 was in Norman against Sam Bradford at his best. It was the game when OU marched in just a couple minutes for a TD and then got a pick 6 on our first play following. It was 35-0 after the first quarter. 2009 was our great D with Suh. Bradford and their great TE (his name currently escapes me) were injured in that game. Bradford was hurt in the opener against BYU and rehurt it for good against Texas. Landry Jones was a freshman, and he never had a chance.

2008, OU 62-28

2009, NU 10-3. O'Hanlon with 3 picks.
