Guess we all should not be bothered by this Minnesota result. These things happen. Maybe next year. Guess we are doing good enough. Ah yes... the road to complete irrelevance. This guy plans to lead. presidentjlh
Yep, Nebraska should just lie down and accept 9 and 10 win seasons because it's a horrible irrational thing to ask for improvement in performance and to have a high standard at a traditional football blue-blood. Try telling that to Alabama fans, Oklahoma fans, USC fans, or Notre Dame fans. Quote Link to comment

presidentjlh
I agree we're a little irrational at times, but why can't we expect greatness? We were able to be great for years, should we just give that up because "D'OH WELL IT'S A DIFFERENT ERA HURR" Quote Link to comment
TheSker
"D'OH WELL IT'S A DIFFERENT ERA HURR" What? Quote Link to comment
presidentjlh
"D'OH WELL IT'S A DIFFERENT ERA HURR" What? From the article: "A group of college kids is expected to perform at the same level that a bunch of guys did years ago, regardless of the fact that the playing field and rules have changed." In other words, don't expect greatness because things are different now. You know, don't adjust to new times and re-establish greatness. Edited to try to avoid copyright garbage Quote Link to comment
tmfr15
Expecting the team to go 3-3 in the games that matter isn't much. We have the type of assets that should allow us to win six games without problem every year. That brings us down to six toss ups. Can we win three and not get blown out in any? If we were going 10-2 in the regular season, missing the CCG and losing the Capitol One Bowl by a FG then screaming from the hill tops for a coach change would be idiotic. We are 5-2 and, let's be honest, staring 6-6 right in the face. The college game is one where you win in order to recruit in order to win in order to recruit. See what happens when you start to lose. And lose badly. Well, ask Minnesota, it's been a year or two or 40 since they were a player on the national scene. And they are just as happy as a pig in slop to have punched their ticket for a bowl game of any kind. That's sad. And I don't want to see it in Lincoln. 1 Quote Link to comment
presidentjlh
I mean, I'm not asking for a repeat of the 90s, I'm not expecting that ever again honestly. But is it bad to ask for a conference title when the last one this team won was in the last millennium? That seems to be the thing Husker fans most desire right now, and while certainly difficult to achieve, don't tell me fans can't have that expectation. Quote Link to comment
TheSker
I'm not sure it's permissible to quote from the article that way.....but an admin will need to let you know for certain. I read the article, just thought the response was a weird way for you to try to get your point across. Quote Link to comment

suh_fan93
I just want a team that fights. Not one or two guys that fight. Like Shatel says Pelini talks a tough game but his team is in no way a reflection of that. Also the writer denounces the fan base for setting expectations based on the past but what should we do then? Not set any expectations at all and be happy getting blown out by teams that aren't even truly that good to begin with and leap with joy while beating the South Dakota States of the world? Give me a break... Quote Link to comment
presidentjlh
I mean, if we went 13-1, or 12-2, and people were still whining, then I'd understand, but we've gone 10-4 or 9-4 for 5 straight years, and six looks likely. That's not progress. Not saying that once we get over that hump we then have to win national titles every year, just saying, we want to be a nationally relevant program again. Quote Link to comment
tmfr15
I get where you are coming from TheSker, but the last five games were all toss ups last year. And we were in better position with a healthy QB back then. Northwestern.... rallied/ won on last poss Michigan... won after their QB was out Michigan State... rallied/ won on last poss Penn State... won thanks to some late game punting heroics and an "interesting call" near the goal line. Iowa... slept walked to that one. It was closer than it should have been. We are worse this year and they are better. Quote Link to comment
