Eric the Red
Husker football recruit arrested in L.A. BY STEVEN M. SIPPLE / Lincoln Journal Star Tuesday, May 23, 2006 - 12:24:53 am CDT Major Culbert, a defensive back in Nebraska’s 2006 football recruiting class, has been arrested on charges of first-degree burglary and first-degree sexual abuse stemming from a January incident during a recruiting visit in Oregon, a Eugene, Ore., police spokeswoman said Monday night. Culbert, of suburban Los Angeles, was arrested in Los Angeles last week after a warrant for his arrest was issued in Eugene, said Kerry Delf, public information specialist for the Eugene Police Department. The alleged incident occurred at a University of Oregon off-campus dormitory and involved female students who lived in the dorm, Delf said. She said Culbert was visiting Eugene as a football prospect. Details of what led to the charges and Culbert’s arrest were unavailable late Monday, as were details involving possible extradition proceedings, Delf said. Advertisement Bob Gorham, a Lane County district attorney in Eugene, is handling the case. He was unavailable for comment, a spokeswoman said. Nebraska coach Bill Callahan, in a prepared statement Monday, said school officials were aware of Culbert’s situation. “We were first made aware of the investigation on May 5, but were instructed by law enforcement agencies to take no action or to discuss the ongoing investigation,” Callahan said. “Given the seriousness of the allegations, on Wednesday, May 17, the University of Nebraska immediately suspended its scholarship obligations to Culbert. “A final decision regarding his status will be reviewed once we have sufficient information from these proceedings. He will have no association with the University of Nebraska or its football program until that decision is made.” The 5-foot-11, 200-pound Culbert, reached on his cell phone, expressed surprise Monday when asked about the charges. “I’m working out right now,” he said. “I don’t know of anything like that.” Culbert, a standout at Nathaniel Narbonne High in Harbor City, Calif., was ranked as a three-star recruit by both Rivals.com and Scout.com. He was ranked No. 34 on Rivals.com’s list of the top 100 players in California. On Jan. 20, the day he verbally pledged to Nebraska, Culbert told the Journal Star he had also considered scholarship offers from Oregon, Washington, UNLV and San Diego State. He visited NU’s campus during the weekend of Sept. 3. “I liked the fans and the coaches, and Lincoln’s a great place to live,” he said. “Trouble’s easy to get into, but not in Lincoln.” Oregon statute on sexual abuse in the first degree. A person commits the crime of sexual abuse in the first degree when that person: 1. Subjects another person to sexual contact and: (A) The victim is less than 14 years of age; (B) The victim is subjected to forcible compulsion by the actor; or © The victim is incapable of consent by reason of being mentally defective, mentally incapacitated or physically helpless; or 2. Intentionally causes a person under 18 years of age to touch or contact the mouth, anus or sex organs of an animal for the purpose of arousing or gratifying the sexual desire of a person. DJR313
That's too bad. I hope the charges are BS, but I doubt it for some reason. I thought he was going to be a stud, what a shame. I wonder if Oregon is gonna get in some trouble for this. Quote Link to comment
DaveH
After reading some more about this, what's interesting to me is why this is coming to light now? Did Oregon see no use to keep the covers over this since they missed out on Culbert? Does Oregon use Colorado-like recruiting tactics? Who knows. Quote Link to comment

Did he go on this visit after he signed his LOI with NEBRASKA? If so why? no. LOI is in February. Major visited Oregon on the 13th of January, and he verballed to NEBRASKA on Jan. 20th.
