I figured I needed a break from all this coaching nonsense and would start a fresh topic. What is everyone's favorite Nebraska hit?

My personal favorite was Keyou Craver's hit on a wide receiver screen play against Texas A&M during the 1999-00 season.

You can see it here around 0:15 seconds:

If you pause it on 0:16, you can really see how much power he gets on this dude; he's like 5 feet in the air.

THAT is how you make a tackle. Wrap up and drive your man into the dirt.

1. Tom Ruud's hit on Kelly Phelps vs OU in 1978 on the kickoff after we went up 17-14.

2. Rucker blowing up that hapless K-state player in '95 to spring Mike Fullman on a punt return TD.

3. Then Frost blowing up that Texas A&M DB to spirng Newcombe on that reverse in the '97 CCG.

The tackle that was put on Jaquez Green during the '96 Fiesta Bowl game. Seemed to scare the living daylights out of every Florida player.

Speaking of punt return hits, does anyone know who threw that amazing block at the end of the return to free Johnny Rodgers on that famous punt return they always used to show during the Tunnel Walk?

Whoever it was totally destroyed the dude.

There is no way anything other than Ruud's hit on the kickoff return can be nominated.....he obliterated that guy, and he did [b]not[/g] get up.

One I recall, I believe it was Damon Benning back to recieve a punt agains UCLA. Acted like he was going to catch the ball with the UCLA guy coming down the field to cover. At the last second he drop his shoulder stepped up and put a pop on the cover guy. Ball goes into the the endzone and the dudes lights were not out but really dim. Totally sandbagged him.

The biggest hit has to be Tom Ruud on the Oklahoma kick returner.

Here are a few other great hits that i have videos of:

- Ruud's hit at 0:35 and again at 1:49
-Wymoing QB broke in half at 1:30
-Texas A&M kid lit up on block at 3:00

-K-State kid decapitated on block at 4:40

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VykWmBkhBzc
-Joel Makovica levels Dat Nguyen

http://youtube.com/watch?v=HEL7SkmLHXU&feature=related
-This is a great video especially the first half of it, i think this video has almost every hit that has been mentioned
-There are a bunch of awesome hits from 1:18-1:45 (Kordell Stewart lit up at 1:18, Grant Wistrom cruches OU player at 1:35, Mich St guy leveled at 1:37, Wyoming QB split at 1:42, K-State player's helmet knocked off-1:43, Mich St. QB blindsided at 1:44) These are some good ones.

Tom Ruud's hit on Kelly Phelps hurt me all the way up in Omaha. I'm still sore from it.

I was at that game in '78, and that was still the hardest hit I've ever seen in a football game. Kelly Phelps transferred from Oklahoma (after his separated shoulder and broken jaw healed). By the way...I believe it was John Ruud that made that hit. Tom graduated in '74.

Any time 97ish when the mean, mean receivers would headhunt and murder d-backs. God, I loved that.

I dont see why they cant play some of the videos of these hits on the big screen before the defense takes the field. How could the defense not go out on the field and just want to take some freakin heads off!!

Any video with a Wistrom, Peter or others knocking down, smashing, or running over the opposition works for me. I love some of the links above and in another thread. Really got me motivated. Oh, and add Barret or Tom Ruud to the list. I am just sorry Bo did not get the same coaching.

These are so awesome , but they make me very angry at both these players we have now and the coaching staff we just got rid of that turned the Blackshirts into a bunch of pansies. It is embarrassing and these players should be embarrassed! I know. They're just kids , but so were the Blackshirts of old and they played like men. I still hope that all of these current defensive players girlfriends went out and cheated on them with members of the bowling team. They deserve it! :rant
