So, still no luck catching the elusive bearded tuna, huh? lulz

+1 NUance. I'm laughing out loud in my office right now

  2. This. Add it Alabama over a decent-looking West Vriginia team. The rest is full of terrible teams - not to mention no road games. I'd like to B1G teams to follow the SEC and start scheduling FCS teams right in the middle of conference play, spice things up a bit...

good point, although I don't know if bait is as important as where these fish are schooling at, colorado I hear has been seeing a resurgence in its population of bearded tuna

under the proper conditions these once majestic creatures can thrive once again!

  4. I think the statistical models this guy is using really likes Nebraska right now. In some other articles I've read by him he's pumped them up. If you look at the 3 wins in conference play so far Nebraska has won by a margin of 42-18 and Purdue is grading out in line with those opponents. If you also look at this guy's picks they are pretty accurate for teams that he has a 90-100% chance of winning they have been 78-3 (96%) on the season. Yeah, I dunno about tOSU being 96.7% certainty to beat Meechicken. It's a rival game. Like USC/UCLA. Anything can happen. That said, I don't think Urban will relax one bit preparing for this one. And I don't think Brady Hoke has much left in the tank. Maybe you forget how bad Michigan has been this year?

  6. What top 25 and top 10 rankings did they use for the wins against on the resumes? Doesn't that kind of eliminate the blind thing since these rankings supposedly have the SEC bias?
  7. This is not true - the second to last drive against Northwestern they started on the 19 yard line with Lewis, Moudy, Reeves, Kondolo, Price and went three and out for a field goal. Still. That's better results than our starting LG getting knocked over by air This also didn't happen in the last 2 games...

  9. GSG, I also see a lot of missed holes by Ameer. I'm going to keep re-iterating that the line played much better than was given credit to them during the game thread and some of the threads that popped up immediately after.
  10. That was also one of the few times in the game that they lined up in the I formation away from the goal line. Sometimes wonder why they don't go back to that - what happened to the toss sweeps that were often called in years past? Its like that play has been taken out of the playbook and it was pretty successful. Also noticed that during the long TD drive in the second half they did a lot of faking of the jet sweep to open up the middle more (same concept they used on the lost run you mentioned above).
  11. The fake bubble screen is designed to hold the attention of the nickel covering him, it didn't work in this instance but if he would have bit on it and Abdullah would have hit the right hole he would have been one on one with a safety.
  12. Good points, I think the line played a pretty decent game against Northwestern. If Tommy hits on 2-3 more passes in the first half and Alonzo Moore lines up correctly there wouldn't be much talk about needing to make changes on the line. For the most part Tommy was kept off of the ground, I can really only think of 2 times he was knocked down on pass attempts.
  13. We have google guise! http://www.fromtherumbleseat.com/2014/7/14/5890675/intro-to-football-analytics-home-field-advantage-in-college-football In the 2008-2013 seasons home teams outscored their conference opponents by 3.3 points. This falls in line with the accepted advantage of 3 or 3.5 points
  14. I get the feeling they were more so trying to send a message to cotton by Moudy playing. Nevernind, didn't realize Moudy was a Senior, disregard this. Could be a motivational thing, could also just be getting him a breather.
  15. I don't think Moudy actually played very many series at LG, I went back through and tried to count and I think it was only 1 series in the first half (the 4th drive TD) and 1 in the second half (no points). The second line played better in the second half but that also could have been a result of Northwestern getting worn down, the first line didn't really play that bad. The offense was stalling because Armstrong was 6/13 passing in the first half with that group. The pass protection was good all game, he was never under any pressure except when he dropped the snap. If he would have hit a few more passes, the first line group would have looked better. There was also a nice 8-9 yard run in the first half that was called back because Alonzo Moore didn't line up correctly, that was a big play that put them behind the sticks. The holding call on Cotton was borderline and he came back and made 2 nice blocks on the next 2 plays. Cotton was also stonewalling his guy in pass protection all game, he looked pretty darn good. Keep in mind that Cotton was also on the field during the 3 rushing TD drives in the second half, not Moudy. Sterup also came back in for Price on the drive they ran it 9 straight times for the TD. So overall, the second line did play a little better in the running game but I think its been a little blown up on the board and in the media on how much you can really equate the second half success to the second string line. Everybody played better in the second half, most importantly Tommy was hitting and receivers were catching the 3rd down balls.
  16. Sagarin says Rutgers is a lot like McNeese State and Fresno State
  17. Hooked why are you concentrating on the Elo rankings? Its been noted that Sagarin was forced to use the Elo system in the BCS rankings (it based solely on wins and loses and doesn't take the score of the game into account). The predictor column is what you should be looking at.
  18. Here is a good website with a composite of all sorts of different rating systems: http://www.masseyratings.com/cf/compare.htm Sagarin is one of the handful of systems that has Nebraska below 20 but its certainly not the lowest (Catherwood!!!!)
  19. I don't see how people can be upset with the QB play at this point in the season. I'm sure Tommy would be the first person to tell you he'd want a few throws back but he's played really only one bad half so far this year. He's lead the team to a top 11 scoring offense and has the team sitting in the top 5 for yards per play. What more do you really want from him? At this point it seems like the only thing that is going to make some posters happy is a complete turnover in coaching staff and playing nothing but walk-ons for the entire season.
