  1. Truthfully I think a lot of this hatred towards Tim Beck stems from his $700k salary. I think most Husker fans don't agree that we are getting $700k salary results from Tim Beck. I said it before and I'll say it again, the only coach, beside Pelini that should be making that much, is Ron Brown. Aside from the fumbles, he has developed 3 NFL caliber running backs here at Nebraska under Bo Pelini in these 7 years. We really cannot afford to lose that man.
  2. Wisconsin's QB situation is still in limbo, that's why both Joel Stave and Tanner McEvoy are splitting snaps. Though they have been running with Joel Stave as the starter as of the Northwestern game. But the mans stats aren't impressive over 3 games. Only the Maryland game was a good game for him. Northwestern game - 8/19 for 114 yds 42% comp 1TD 3 INT Illinois game - 7/14 for 73 yds 50% comp 0 TD 0 INT Maryland game - 9/15 155 yds 60% comp 2 TD 0 INT Wisconsin relies a lot on Melvin Gordon to score. You restrict him, force Stave or McEvoy to throw, you control the game. But you know outside of the LSU game, Wisconsin hasn't really faced a very good defense, especially one that is statistically good at stopping the run. Teams that faced Wisconsin ranked against the run - LSU - 65 BG = 110 SoFlo - 96 Norwest - 63 - 158 yds per game Illin - 120 Mary - 108 Where does Nebraska rank in defense against the run? 29 - 123 yds per game Quite possibly the best run defense Wisconsin will see all year.
  3. The only thing that worries me about Wisconsin, is Melvin Gordon. But it will be a huge opportunity for Ameer and the Huskers. If they can hold Melvin back and Ameer has a big day in Madison. I see Ameer's Heisman chances skyrocket.
  4. Moore seems off and on. I can't wait for the day he turns it on permanently. Folks are too critical of Drew Brown, I know there is a expectation for a kicker named Brown at Nebraska, but give the kid some credit for being a true freshman kicker, he has a lot of kicking at Nebraska to do. No sense to demean him for his first season. Mark Pelini is the starting center because he is the most experienced center we have. Is he the best option we have? Probably not. Reeves might finally be finding a more solid role on the Offensive Line. But c'mon guys, Mark Pelini isn't starting at center because he is Bo's nephew. That kind of talk is just conspiracy theorist talk. I've heard folks say that the 2nd string offensive line plays better than the 1st string. You know they may throw a bigger block, or open a bigger hole on the run, or are quicker to side step and block a DE well on pass protection, but did you ever think that maybe its because they aren't consistent with that play in practice? or maybe they commit too many penalties in practice? like the false start, or the holding calls? Just food for thought. Congrats to Kenny Bell on beating Nate Swift's record, extra kudos knowing he has been dinged up. Congrats to Ameer for his record setting day. How far is he away from Mike Rozier again? It would be a crime if his name and number isn't on Memorial Stadium next season.
  5. I honestly thought this topic was gonna be a "Miami beat VT, VT beat OSU, and we beat Miami, our chances look very good to beat OSU" thread.
  6. Is this the Rutgers first time in Lincoln?

first time this year for sure

      It'sNotAFakeID

Yes. Just the second time the teams have met.

  7. Clapping only excuses the false starts and snapping the ball early. It doesn't excuse the poor blocking.
  8. Good luck with that, when your team's offense runs 70% of time.
  9. I read this and it tells me, that Nebraska hasn't developed a NFL caliber QB in over 30 years. Further more it tells me the QB coaching issue has been around since before TIm Beck, before Shawn Watson, before... who ever the hell was coaching the offense before Shawn Watson. Its been an issue for decades. And unless you want to change the culture at Nebraska football to favor developing more NFL caliber QB's, its just something that we are all going to have to put it up with. My belief, we don't need a NFL caliber QB to win championships, as long as we have an offensive line with NFL caliber talent, and a stable of running backs that are NFL caliber, those other positions such as TE, WR, and QB just have to be good enough to win. They don't need to be great.
  10. There is one little problem with Dantonio's statement, his DL's didn't move around, nor did they look like they were gonna move.
  11. I never considered the possibility of this. But it does make sense. You can't really tell the difference between a QB clapping for the ball or a defensive player clapping to either get a miscued snap, or get the attention of one his players to get into position or make a defensive change, or a some random fans clapping. Maybe its just me, but how long has a QB been clapping to cue for the snap been going on in the game of football, not only the college level, but the professional level as well? I wonder if they even thought it out that the defense could exploit it. There really is no way to tell whether a defensive player is clapping to disrupt the offensive snap or just trying to get the attention or pump up his defense. I'm not taking the side of the Spartans on this. I'm just simply trying to point out the flaws of the "clapping" snap.
  12. I bet he lit a small fire and told Jake Cotton to squat over it and hold it for 10 min. "Let's see you fall back now!" As for Mark Pelini, "every time you snap the ball to me without me calling for it, your doing 50 up-downs."
  13. Oh come on. Cook did not look like a NFL caliber QB. Granted he made some great throws, but as many great throws he had, he had twice as many bad throws. Rewatch the game, as painful as it may be, and count how many times Cook overthrew his receiver due to pressure from Randy and the front four? At times Cook looked like he was rattled trying to pass the ball. I don't remember what the end result was, but I know by halftime, the Spartans only converted one 3rd down, I think it was like 1 of 8 or something like that. It didn't get any better by the 2nd half. Granted our offense didn't do any better. Defensive backs have to keep their eyes on the receiver, you turn and look for the ball without the receiver looking for the ball, and you run the risk of the receiver making a move and getting separation from you. At least that is how it goes when you play man coverage. When you play zone coverage, your eyes are more on the QB rather than the receivers.
  14. You teach him to watch the receiver, if the receiver turns his head to look for the ball, so should you. This topic is pretty stupid, mostly because you are talking about a young secondary with few veterans, and even then, some of those vets aren't perfect. Some of you have blinders on, where you only see and point out the negatives and completely disregard the positives. It's incorrect to say that Pelini's secondary has never been taught to turn around and look for the ball. I guess all those corners and safeties, NFL or not were never taught to look for the ball by either Marvin Sanders, Terry Joseph, that one guy who came before Joseph. Nah, they were all scrub coaches that didn't teach that our secondary. I've seen our guys this year turn their heads and look for the ball. Are they consistent? no, far from it. But you know what, I bet half the secondaries in the NFL have their moments where they don't turn their heads and look for the ball. And you know what, those guys get called for pass interference.
  15. I give Beck a grade of B minus on playcalling. Probably a C minus for preparation. Tommy said it best "We were scrambling. We just didn’t know what we were doing." We said it all week, it would be important for Nebraska to establish the run game. They didn't. Should've known they were gonna stack the box. Should've known they would do anything to stop the run. But Nebraska stuck with its offense identity, run the ball to setup the play action pass. Its clearly what Beck was trying to call in the first half, when it wasn't working, he tried calling some short passes to spread the box and gain yards. Which I admit worked. Tommy was completing the short passes of 5 - 10 yds a catch to the outside. It was getting us first downs and moving the ball. But he got away from it and went back to the run, which the Spartans didn't abandon just yet. When the 2nd half started, he tried picking up where he left off during the first quarter, run the ball first and try and setup the pass. Then it became apparent he was passing to try and setup the run. And with Tommy's arm, it was a smart move, since the run game wasn't working. I think what happened in the first half was when the offense realized they couldn't run the ball, they didn't know what to do.
  16. Hard to beat a team twice in a season. Wisconsin did it to us in our first year in the Big Ten. I like the upbeat attitude. This team wants another shot, and I believe they will get it. No, they didn't...? Redacted, my memory isn't what it used to be.

  18. I always thought we were jumping the gun on the playoffs thing. I mean the goal was conference championship. I just believe in taking one step at a time. Winning the conference championship is the next step for Nebraska. Not going to the playoffs. That's like two steps ahead. Also, I personally feel that the MSU defense is the toughest defense we will face the rest of the regular season.
  19. I love the way he tackles. Bando did better, just not good enough.
  20. To all the Tommy haters out there. I saw a redshirt sophomore QB get rattled on the road against a defense that came prepared to stop the run and didn't have an OL that was blocking well to protect him. Last I checked, we don't have a more veteran QB to take Tommy's place. And I don't care if it's Tommy, Ryker, Stanton, or Eric freakin' Crouch. A QB CAN'T PLAY WELL IF YOUR OFFENSIVE LINE CAN'T WIN THE BATTLE IN TRENCHES! Did Tommy play a good game, NO, but he sure as hell didn't get much help from his offensive line. I put this loss, square on their heads.
  21. I learned that our defense answered a lot of questions tonight. Our offense created a bunch of questions. Learned that Cethan Carter was out of the game. Injured? The main thing I learned was that if you want to stop the Husker offense, stack the box and have two fast Defensive Ends. Case closed.
  22. Pulled groin again. Good thing we a have bye week for him to rest. But I have feeling he will be out for 2 weeks. He looked to be in a lot of pain. Pretty sure Tommy hurt his left leg early in the 2nd quarter, then he got hit and started limping. Got hit again on that run and the first thing he grabbed was that left leg below the knee. They can claim midsection injury, But he was definitely grabbing his lower leg.
