  1. I agree 100% with the No November Night games rule. I realize its cold after dark in Minnesota, Wisconsin, or Michigan, but they are missing out on primetime viewership and just automatically giving it away to the Big 12 and SEC. Bottom line is people from the North are used to the elements. I've always enjoyed night games late in the season in Lincoln. I could care less if I have to wear Coveralls and 3 coats. That just makes it easier to hide the flask.
  2. I don't think this B1G experiment will yield particularly great results for NU. But, then again, NU hasn't been "relevant" as a NC quality team for a decade. The Big 12 is the better conference this year, imo. The B1G is filled with a pack of mediocre teams (MSU, Mich, NU, PSU, IA, OSU) and a bunch of crud (MN, IL, IN, Purd). WI is decent. But an OU or OSU would score points in bunches on them (they might score too, but I think OU/OSU would win). You can mock TAMU and MU all you want, but they would be tough outs for NU this year. ISU, under Rhoades, would give NU a fight no matter what. KU is junk. But KSU would beat NU this year. And of course NU can't beat TX. Time will tell though. Kansas State wouldn't beat the Huskers this year. I've watched everyone of their games. However, the Huskers would struggled against a team like Mizzou this year who is 9th place in the league.
  3. For years and years Mizzou, K-State, and Colorado fans hated us and called us arrogant for the"greatest fans in college football" moniker. This right here epitomizes why we have always been and always will be better than them from a fan standpoint.
  4. There is barely NAIA talent at Central CC, North Platte, or Norfolk. Scottsbluff has had some good players through the years. Do they have some D-I players this year?
  5. Chris Spielman made a good point during the broadcast of the Penn State game, and I noticed it as well in the Northwestern game. Martinez has improved his footwork. I don't know who has been working with him, whether its Ganz or the other coaches but its almost like he has learned decent footwork in the last 3 weeks. He's also going through his progressions within the passing game. I was floored on Saturday when I saw him actually "look off" the safety..... twice. Taylor Martinez is becoming an excellent football player.
  6. The NW game still stings. I can handle the Wisconsin loss because I didn't see us going in there are getting a win anyway. But if we finish 10-2 with a loss to NW, whom probably won't make a bowl, that will sting for quite a while.
  7. Maddening is a great word to describe this Sadler characteristic. Its not just that they go cold for long stretches, they often go long stretches without even getting off a good shot. It is maddening.
  8. Drops are drops, but Nebraska's current collections of receivers is as talented as any unit in the Big 10.
  9. I don't think the conference is that tough. I'm glad NU isn't facing all the offenses in the Big 12 right now. We've faced two great offensive teams: Wisconsin and Northwestern. With that said though, NU has had tremendous defenses the last two years. The defense will be back, and the Huskers will have a great chance to become Ohio State "West," without the cheating and immorality. But NU does fit into this league better. I love it.
  10. Damn, its like Doogie Howser just kicked our ass.
  11. Well it would have to be a forfeit, not just a cancellation. And I doubt those games will be cancelled.
  12. Coker has had a good season but the only stat that he leads Rex Burkhead in is rushing yards by about 80, Rex has a better ypc, TD's. But the biggest difference is who each team played and right now Iowa State/Penn state might have been your best opponent vs ours of your choice, Wisconson, Ohio st, MSU you could even say Washington. I can only imagine the stats Burkhead would have right now with Iowa's current schedule. Here is the break down, like I said it's all about national reconition, as there are several very good rb's in the B10. As for espn, make up your own mind about what they say, but atleast you can admit the top 4 are all pretty darn close to each other. http://bigtennetwork....asp?cat=2&lg=4. As for sos, give me a break. Out of the games you mentioned you had ONE away game, yet the 2 you mentioned for Iowa were away games. OSU down and missing guys? Wash? Really? I will say you all played MSU very well, but it was your D who won that game for you. I also noticed Coker had almost as many rushing yards against MN as the whole Husker team. You won we lost, I get that, but those rushing yards were against the exact same team. So lets compare apples to apples if you want to get into a pizzing match. I have said Rex is good and so are many other RB's in the B10, what more do you want? Sorry if I am not jumping on the Rex train, given he does not lead in any catagory. Minnesota.
  13. I will continue to preach this point over and over about the 2011 Huskers: If NU doesn't turn the football over, they will win every game on their schedule.
  14. The lack of Heisman talk doesn't bother me, but if Nebraska ends up 11-1 and wins the Big 10, he should most certainly be deserving of a All-American accolades. I think 1300+ yards and 20+ touchdowns will get him on that list.
  15. You're either blind or have no understanding of the game of football.
  16. The current Huskers run two main options; the belly option and the Speed Option. The belly option was the option perfected by Coach Osborne's teams. Its really built around the path of the fullback and quarterback. The QB reverses out, opening away from the play call. The FB takes an off-tackle path. After the fake from the QB, the FB bounces outside to lead the QB if he keeps. Its always ran out of a two back set. The term "G" simply means "Guard" and it stems from the "G" blocking scheme where the Guard on the play side pulls and then immediately targets the end man on the line of scrimmage. The play side tight end and tackle both block down which should seal the edge. The fullback then has to read the guards block. He can then go inside or outside of the pulling guard, but has to read the guard to determine where his block needs to go. The quarterback then has the "option" to keep or pitch based on the pursuit of the unblocked linebacker or DB attempting to move up in support. Because Martinez also spins away from the playside, he can also handoff to the Fullback with the Fullback trap. When it works, there is usually nobody within 10 yards of the fullback by the time he reaches the 2nd level of the defense. When it doesn't work, the FB can be stood up for a 2 yard loss.
  17. I think NU's inability to stop Braxton Miller is a bit overblown. Prior to the Husker game, Ohio State's offense was anemic in part because they tried to limit his runs and keep him the pocket. Its pretty obvious the OSU coaches realized they needed to unleash Miller if they desired any chance to win games this year. They did a lot of things against the Huskers that NU hadn't seen yet on film.
  18. Gosh... I hope this doesn't hurt our passing game.
  19. Its kind of hard to believe considering just how bad the defense looked about a month ago, but ever since halftime of the Ohio State game, NU has started playing some shut down defense. Now that could just be an abberation because Ohio State without Braxton Miller is bad offensively, Minnesota sucks against every team not from Iowa, and Michigan State's offense is just bad anyway. We will get a much bigger test against a terrific offensive football team in Northwestern. The defense will really need to step up next week. But none-the-less, our defensive numbers are creeping up the National Rankings and looking much better than a month ago: 29th in Total Defense at 334.63. I'm actually surpised NU is in the top 30 with that number. Defensive numbers as a whole this season are less impressive unless you're named Alabama. 12th in Pass Defense at 179 ypg. That number is a bit misleading because of the bad passing games we've seen. It will continue to get better though just because of the competition. 23rd in Pass Def Eff- This is a more important number than Pass Defense. It factors in completion percentage and interceptions. NU has been among the best teams in the country the last few years in this category which is a good reason of why Gomes, Prince, and Hagg are all in the NFL. 33rd in scoring D- 22.5 ppg. I want this number to keep going down. Its the most important number in football. It doesn't just guage a defenses strength. It also takes into account how good teams are on special teams and avoiding points off of turnovers. Get this number below 20 and the Huskers will be primed for a special season. Our rush defense is still bad, allowing 166 yards per game. However, they've only surrendered 12 rushing touchdowns in 8 games. That's not great, but its not terrible. NU is 51st in total offense at 412 ypg. There is nothing wrong with averaging more than 400 ypg. The Huskers are 9th nationally in rushing at 252 yards per game. The most impressive part of that stat is Ohio State and Michigan State are both ranked in the top 25 Nationally in rush defense. Nebraska rushed for 441 yards and 4 touchdowns against those two teams. Michigan State has allowed 7 rushing TD's all year. NU had 2 of them. Ohio State has only given up 5 rushing TD's all year. NU has 2. Huskers are 22nd Nationally in scoring at 35.88 PPG. Expect that number to rise with teams like NW, Michigan and Iowa left on the schedule. Penn State will be tough to score on though.
  20. I thought it was funny, and the whole bar erupted in laughter when they put him on camera.
  21. You're all overanalyzing this whole "Big Ten bowl game struggles issue." Its all very simple. The Big 10 is not very good, and it hasn't been good for a few years now. Quite frankly, the Huskers picked a bad year to rebuild a defense, otherwise I think they'd be running rough shot over this whole conference. If the defense has indeed turned the corner, NU just needs to avoid turnovers and they will win out. To put this into perspective, I think NU's 2009 team with a terrible offense and the best defense in the country, would be undefeated right now in the Big 10. That team lost 4 games in 2009.
  22. I despise computer rankings. Every year Sagarin and Massey have some D-II teams rated ahead of BCS conference and FBS teams. I know KU is terrible, but Pitt State would lose by 50 if they played each other.
  23. Yeah, but if Taylor Martinez actually possessed the same game management skills, moxie, and passing fundamentals as Joe Ganz, NU would be undefeated right now and Taylor Martinez would be a legit Heisman frontrunner.
  24. The possible 11 am starts was the one part of the Big Ten I was dreading prior to the season. For years and years, I've watched Gameday and then tried to do every possible household chore necessary to avoid Pam Ward broadcasting Indiana at Purdue or Iowa vs. Penn State, etc, etc. The Big 10 loves that whole National window at 12 Eastern. In reality, it sucks. The only good thing about it is Chris Spielman.
