  1. Funny.........yet disturbing..............
  2. hmmm............I'm getting the impression you don't care much for Dan....................... I WILL say, regardless of what you think of his character/comedy/act...............he is one of the more generous givers in the Lincoln community.............he has given multiple millions to underfunded and/or start up missions, churches, charities, etc. (usually, unreported............but eventually the news finds it's way into the public domaine). He also is a HUGE donor to the University....................(although I doubt T.O. is particularly enthralled with his schtick) Just some additional info..............
  3. Very well known fact that he is a Husker as his wife is from Omaha. IIRC...........he was on the same flight back to DC when Ankrah was going home from his recruiting visit.................Justice Thomas and Ankrah visited about Husker FB and life throughout the flight. Doesn't get much better than having one of the Supremes as an unofficial recruiting guru...............
  4. To the contrary...................the national media....... i.e. espn...............decreed back in August (right after they fitted the heisman to Luck's sized hands)........that the winner of the SEC would be the MNC. They even started priming the pump of public opinion that the loser of LSU/Bama would still be in the title game. The rest of us just didn't know it .........or foolishly believed in Herm Edwards dictum.
  5. I agree, but who would have been groomed to take over in 97? Turner? That was the one bad thing about having assistants staying around for a long time, when Tom retired, they were all old as well. Turner would have been the logical choice but only if Tom had stayed on for a few more years. Turner would have been to green at that point. Maybe Ron Brown? But we now see that he really had no desire to be a head coach because he could have easily left Nebraska for a MAC typed job like Solich did. That was the problem, Tom didn't have anyone on his staff to hand the torch too. As we all see now, Turner would have been a disaster too. If there was ever a time to have a national search it was in 1998 and NU could have any coach that they wanted. NU with it's tradition and history should be a destination job, not a job that is handed out to inexperienced coordinators and hope for the best type situations as we have done since TO retired. And NU has been irreverent since the last of TO's recruits graduated because of it. You might argue we have been somewhat irrelevant since T.O., but irreverent.............?? That's blasphemy.................
  6. We shouldn't be surprised at this at all. Whenever, we are not somebody's top choice, it will always be a struggle IF there is a chance that their number 1 can offer late. No different than when UNO (when they still had fb), Ohio, or any number of D-1 schools get in early on a local kid and we play them along until defections open up a schollie and we offer and they pounce. We are on both sides of this. Doesn't mean it doesn't smart when it happens, especially if our staff unearths some diamonds and our attraction sheds some additional national exposure on the prospect and it comes back to bite us.
  7. Interesting. I always think it's a hoot when people try to answer for other people. Why would someone hate Tim Tebow or a kid like him? Doesn't make sense. The kid stands for everything that's good about football and life. To hate him would be a total waster of emotion. We are on the SAME page here. I totally agree with the premise that it's hard to understand why some people hate him. My intent and belief was well presented by skersfan in post 12. I originally made the "polarizing" comment precisely because there ARE folks who find him that way. I don't understand why, but guess it's because the media themselves are polarized with the love/hate dichotomy and people choose sides. His faith may be an issue for some, but I wish it wasn't. He appears genuine to me and seems to live his faith as well as articulate it. The unfortunate veer of this post is that it is becoming about Tebow and it was supposed to be about whether or not Husker fans appreciated Rex for similar attributes as Tebow fans do for him.
  8. Really? Really?? wow. OK, ladyhawke, you've got my interest. I was expressly trying to avoid making the post into a love/hate argument that you hear daily concerning Tebow. So I added the obvious qualifier in parentheses, even though I know no one who would argue that Rex is in anyway polarizing. BUT, I have seen some amazing " takes" circuitously twisted on the board and merely sought to preclude it. So, I am assuming your " Really? Really??? wow" tepid response was dripping satire. If not, please enlighten me with your subterranean message................
  9. Yeah, I get your point and it was difficult and awkward to find a way to phrase it. I meant it as more of a commentary on a current phenom and how his name has almost morphed into a descriptive direct object. I don't think anyone being Tebowed means that he is in anyway subjugated to him.
  10. I was gonna slap you if there wasn't a little more clarification. However, that same description could be used on almost every walk on contributor that has came through this program. Your qualifier would be accurate IF "almost every walk on contributor" would eventually go on to be a multiple record holder................. However, I am relieved I was able to avoid the SLAP.........
  11. The "system" failed her...?? The "system" isn't accountable....?? Good grief...........what have we allowed society to become..............??
  12. In the form of a versatile, blue collar, workhorse, throwback player who inspires the fan base……. (I certainly don’t mean in the manner of a polarizing figure)
  13. Agree with this..........^^^^
  14. Anyone else wonder why Bud Foster never gets a look....................??...................must be his suave demeanor......................... He gets looks all the time. He's committed to VaTech, though. No way I can dispute you on this because I don't have any facts but I swear I've heard announcers commenting on how often he is left out of the finalists when applying for HC positions in the past.............
  15. Anyone else wonder why Bud Foster never gets a look....................??...................must be his suave demeanor.........................
  16. Leach is that crazy uncle that is fun to watch at Thanksgiving...........................so long as he doesn't LIVE at your house........................
  17. Devils advocate................why would Stoops take a job where Bo is in reality the DC and looking over your shoulder....................not giving you total autonomy...........? To me, the best scenario is for BO to be both HC and DC (like TO was HC and OC) and open up another staff position........................even if you get it to be a recruiting coordinator type (like Turner ??)
  18. Michigan at Nebraska is scheduled for Oct 27, so the prohibition should not apply............ But, unfortunately, the final call on times will be made by the omnipotent purveyor of all things football...................ESPN...............
  19. I think the prohibition is for November games................
  20. The first couple of years Doc was here, I thought he really did an impressive job with little/no talent. Especially, the year of the muppets, when we were the smallest team in D-1. I thought, along with a lot of folks, that once he got some talent, he would do fine. Wrong. He has more talent now then any team he's had..............but he seems to have no clue how to utilize it. He may be the stubbornest coach in history. He hangs his hat on D, but is woeful on offense. Case in point..........he has enough athletes to run the floor (as evidenced by the higher point totals in early games this year), but reverts back to his favorite offensive strategy in "bigger" games. That consists of throwing it around the perimeter until the shot clock winds down and we are forced to take a poor shot. Shooting 4 free throws? Maybe if we penetrated a little we might draw some fouls. Barely averaged a little over a point a minute vs a TERRIBLE WF outfit. Wasted time-outs and nothing set up coming out of time-outs. Totally out-coached again at crunch time.
  21. Pretty tough to explain this one.......... NO energy, no focus, and non-existent D on the final play (from our Defensive mastermind of a coach).............. What happened to the team that was getting up and down the floor earlier this season? We break the press and then let them re-set. I have defended Doc for 5 years, but it's getting harder..........
  22. Are you insinuating that the primary role of starting/running/expanding a business is to create jobs? We may not want to acknowledge it, but the primary instigator of starting/running/expanding a business is to create a profit. Certainly, an ancillary benefit to the s/r/e is providing jobs and, (if it applies, and by extension) helping the unemployed. But the notion that it is altruism as a motivator that prods someone to undertake the considerable risk and liability that ensues with the launch of a private venture is simply untrue in the majority of cases. Capitalism can offer numerous benefits, but not if emotionalism supercedes business decisions. Nope, I am not insinuating that the primary goals of business is to create jobs. Their goal is to turn a profit by any legal means possible, of which one is hiring enough workers to where they have the highest productivity with the lowest costs. The jobs aren't there because: A) Businesses are operating to where they turn the best profit. We have too many people so naturally there aren't enough jobs to provide for all the workers. B) Businesses are handcuffed by a minimum wage law and inflation so hiring more workers would put them in the hole [which would be stupid on their part]. That is what I'm insinuating Good insinuating.......................but an even better sig line......................
  23. Most every CFB coach in America not named Steve Spurrier or Brady Hoke would disagree with you. . Sorry, I've got to disagree again. If you would look at participation charts/minutes logged/ etc for the majority of programs, I would wager our # 2 QB logged less total snaps then almost any other. Notice, I am not quibbling with whether or not a # 2 should be give gratuitous minutes in a game in jeopardy, just that there were, (even in THIS odd season) enough opportunities out there to avoid a potentially calamitous situation if TMart went down. We wouldn't want to be so hamstrung that we were reduced to a simple dive play and, in effect, punt the offense for the remainder of the game. One of the benefits of the board is...................it's ok to disagree...............
  24. According to Skippy, the facilities are holding them back..............
  25. It was entertaining while it lasted. And, for what it's worth.................a close acquaintance totally dialed into the whole D.C. network tells me that even Herman was surprised the way the whole campaign took off. He was basically on a book selling tour that ignited and morphed into a campaign. Which would explain why his staff seemed so unprepared in so many ways.
