I think the reason for the BigTen getting a false sense of being over-rated is because their bowl tie-ins don't do them any promise. Cap1 bowl vs SEC, Outback Bowl vs SEC, etc... Excellent point...........

Yes Yos did a great mockery in our last/only run in here...where I said he can show me the articles he was talking about so we could proceed or not show them and we could stop. He choose to stop. I don't think I mentioned the terms of use. So why are you threatening me? Because your schtick is wearing thin. With many people. I was unaware that I could be banned for disagreeing with people. Tell you what...I will voluntarily stop posting here. Although he certainly doesn’t need me to defend him, I firmly believe If Yossarian stops posting voluntarily or is coerced into stopping, I submit the discussion boards will be the loser because of it. Most of the posters on this political site seem to veer left and the few conservatives on here are generally shouted down. Certainly no one learns anything by only surrounding themselves by yes-men. (For instance, I almost NEVER agree with Sub Husker, but find him to be intelligent and thorough in his arguments). It makes me re-think my positions. (Of course, I still believe he is mostly 180 degrees wrong….) I’m trying to offer an objective analysis here, but certainly one of the purposes of this board ought to be the vigorous airing of differing viewpoints. Both sides are passionate about what they believe and so some directness is going to happen. I am confused about the statement that many are getting tired of Yos’s “schtick”. Was a vote taken? I would submit a number are also tired of the over-used and supposedly clever “derp”. Are we threatening to ban those that continually annoy with that sophomoric invective? I am really surprised that this board has seemingly regressed into an egalitarian “club”, where only the like-minded are encouraged to debate. For what it’s worth, I witnessed plenty of that for years on the Pedia board, where the moderator resembled a puffed-up version of Barney Fife and banned or threatened everyone who dared challenge him. Surely, this is a more adult forum for discussion. I have read the rules posted and find it hard to believe the conservative members are the sole instigators of “name calling”. I would argue we need MORE discussion and rigorous debate. Driving articulate posters off because we don’t agree with their passion or stance is so counter-productive. Just my two cents. So just because he's represents a different side than most on the board he should be allowed to act anyway he wants? The forum should conform to him instead him conforming the forum? His "side" can be represented on here...even by him..in a way that isn't virtually always in a wise ass, trolling, destructive way. It's virtually always a game w/ Yos where no honest/objective discussion is even attempted or wanted. The proof is in his postings that we call have or can see. It's why I eventually banned him from HP. His type of posting would fit in well on a Hannity or Coulter forum, but not much anywhere else. It's just not worth it to have him around IF that's how he's going to act. At times he's a good poster, but it's very few and far between. and "no one" wants someone that is constantly going to toe the line..waggling his toe over it...then hiding behind technicalities of the "rules" when called out. A good forum should be about respectful discussion that's productive. Sure it may get away from that from time to time, but it should be the exception w/ people and not the norm. Some may not be aware that I'm the Barney Fife type mod from HP you're talking about...and if that is your thoughts of how I moderated...or think I'm the one being unreasonable then or now in this reply than you are part of the problem and not the solution. Well first of all, I categorically reject your assertion that he is a wise ass troll......................he just articulates a philosophy that is unacceptable to your world view (might we say that you find intolerant..........no we can't because that label is reserved for conservatives). For years I believed the B!G was one of the more over-rated conferences and I enjoyed watching them get their a$$es handed to them regularly in the post season. I still maintain this is not a pretty conference and it won’t be in any NC conversations this year, but it IS a slugfest (like we had been warned). And, I’ve got to say, I’m enjoying the parity and challenges of being forced to bring it every week. (Exhibit # 1….see Northwestern). I recognize this probably sounds like a death bed conversion since we are now a member, and maybe some of it is. But the fact is, that for the style of football we are known for, and like to play……………this is a very good fit. Maybe even better than we anticipated. Agree………….or no……………??

I'm fine with naming the trophy because "Big Ten Conference Champion Trophy" just sounds weak to me considering how much history we have collectively. That said I hate everything about the divisions...the rivalries, the names, the alignment. In my mind go East West and to hell with the consequences. It'll balance eventually. I know you all didn't feel that way in the Big XII but I think there's evidence it could work. Look at the SEC. Instead we're now like the ACC, where the average football fan can't name the divisions and probably doesn't care.... Bingo.............

I know there a been a myriad of posts concerning Coach Brown’s role yesterday, so I hope this is not simply a rehash of some things. But I seem to remember quite a few years ago that he was interviewing for the Stanford head coaching position and their students got wind of his strong faith and organized a protest of some sort to discourage his hiring. He ended up either withdrawing or not getting very far in the process. (I might be a little shaky on the details, but that was pretty much the drift of things). To me, that is to our everlasting advantage and to Stanford’s everlasting loss. Just a personal opinion. A second issue is that when Abdullah committed and Ron was named the running backs coach, I recall some spirited discussion on a Husker board about whether that could ever mesh because of Coach Brown’s out -spoken Christianity. It was very heartening to see Abdullah close to the front of the circle in the pre-game prayer yesterday. Seems like they have worked that out just fine. Anyone else recall those incidents differently........?

To the OP...................I agree with all of your analysis .......................(Today's paper indicated that we blew an OL assignment).

Wow.................didn't realize this simple topic would create such a firestorm.......... To reiterate my original intent..................I think there are 3 teams we match up with so badly we virtually have no shot at beating (given current make-up; strengths/weakness/depth/maturity/attitude/etc) Those being LSU, OKie St., Oregon I believe we can COMPETE with everyone else.................(not limited to site, revenge, last year, or any other considerations)........... By compete, I'm not saying necessarily beat. Just compete. Have a shot and know that beforehand. For those that are handicapping potential victories by percentage.........................that is a tangent unrelated to the intended topic..........i.e. "we would only have a 40% chance".............to me that means we can compete. And finally, we should NOT be content with simply being competitive. This is a program that needs to compete with, and be able to beat anyone. Currently we are not that program. But, if there are only a few left that we can't currently compete with.................maybe we are closer than a lot of the negativity suggests. I suggest the "can't compete with" list is far smaller than it was a few years ago. jmho.

I wonder if his performance in this presser might be a turning point in how the public views Bo..................sort of "humanizing" him, if you will. Certainly, there will be shots of him berating officials in the future, but this image may soften a preconceived image somewhat.........
