  1. It's fun to see all the Nebraska natives who played in those years. Guy Ingles-Omaha. Jerry Murtaugh-Omaha. Jeff Kinney-McCook. Also Van Brownson_Shenandoah Ia. Tagge must have been hurt? Also fun to hear Lyle Bremser.
  2. I will really miss seeing him play. I will even more miss the leadership he provides and the example he is. His parents should be very proud.
  3. Thanks you guys for bumping this thread. Many of you have also made great comments. I had hoped quite a few others would comment but like you say. Nothing to complain about here.
  4. Might he be a DE in a 3-4. I keep hearing rumors that our D could go that route with all the LB's we have recruited. Another question to the football coaches out there. In a 3-4 does Bo still use a 2 deep safety or does that change the D backfield?
  5. The video definately shows how much speed he has. Even though he played in the largest class in SD, there will be a considerable difference when he starts playing against Div 1 players. I think he'll find his way to a starting spot eventually and make a very good SS for the Huskers.
  6. This thread has me in stitches this morning! Then Husker 66 tops it with the "Big Ball " song. I can barely see to type. The last few years I've seen our Huskers bounce back after a big loss (and we've had way too many big losses) with a much better game. The Huskers will surprize us and and feed these grits eating Bulldogs another bowl loss. If we win they have to send their cheerleaders home with us.
  7. Congrats to Spencer for this award. Thanks for the hard work and all the time you put in to get to excellence.
  8. Allow me to jump off topic for a second then hopefully bring it all back together. When I was a young man in college I met a young lady who caught my eye. She was pretty, fun to be with, a little bit flirty and attentive. I eventually fell in love, married her and we raised 3 good sons. She is a good mother, had a decent job for 38 years (recently retired). There was a stretch in our early marriage when I thought the grass might be greener on the other side. I started focusing on my perceived faults of her and wondering if I made the right choice. It took me a few years to realize, she is who she is, and I could go through life accepting her better qualities or ruining my marriage by focusing on her lesser qualities. Thats how I see Taylor Martinez. A great person, a quiet kid doing his best to improve on his skills, not without a flaw or two but getting better and becoming a great Qb. His soph year he had multiple injuries he had to play through and suffered our rath when he didn't perform like we expected. We kept changing systems and offensive coordinators on him to make it more difficult. Count me as one who supports him to the fullest. I'll stand with him this year and next. He will be one of the great Husker Qb's in my opinion.
  9. Tim Marlowe Joseph Carter Courtney Osborne Stephen Osborne PJ Smith Daimion Stafford Rex Burkhead Kyler Reed Jase Dean Cameron Meredith Graham Stoddard Justin Blatchford Shawn Fisher Micah Kreikemeier Alonzo Whaley Eric Martin Matt Manninger Will Compton Baker Steinkuhler Kenny Anderson Justin Jackson Seung Hoon Choi Brandon Thompson Ben Cotton KC Hyland Taylor Dixon Conner McDermott PJ Mangieri Brett Maher First of all, thank you for being Huskers. You took a chance 4 or 5 years ago that could have been a huge risk for your football careers. None of us knew then if this new football coach would be able to resurrect the once proud Husker football program. The fans were hungry. Coach Osborne had just taken the reins of the athletic department. Many or most of you had other options. Those of you that walked on could have gone to a smaller school and were almost guaranteed immediate playing time. Some of you have logged very few minutes if any on the field on saturday afternoons. Others of you have played since your freshman year. No matter....you have laid the groundwork for the return of this football program and you have left it better than you found it. I thank you for your willingness to spend the long, grueling, sweaty hours to improve your skills. I wish i could say every Husker fan was gracious when discussing the results of the previous game(s) but that isn't always the case. Forgive us for doubting you or when we seem to imply you aren't good enough to wear the Scarlett and Cream. YOU ARE! I hope in years to come you proudly wear your Husker gear and where ever life takes you, you can say it was the best years of your life. I wish you the very best Tony
  10. I hate playing the "What-if" game. However had this tackle seriously injured Taylor M we would not be making excuses as to why it happened. As I watch the body slam, I think he was just a few inches from hitting the top of his head against the turf. If refs don't want to discourage this type of activity, they need to keep their yellow hankies in their pocket. Someday someone will be hurt seriously or paralyzed for life from an incident like this. I know football is a contact sport but if tacklers knew that this action would bring an immediate suspension, I'll bet it would all but dissappear.
  11. I'm starting to get that tickle going down my leg! It's either excitement over Nebraska Basketball or the pepperoni in the panini I ate tonight.
  12. I'm guessing the kids who have done this type of "tackle" were former wrestlers or WWF wannbes. I've seen it done several times in football games. The most recent was against a young Alabama lineman who threw down an opposing running back by picking him up and back flipping him on his head. The refs called an immediate personal foul and made sure the running back was ok. Saban then removed said lineman from the game. I don't remember Borland leaving the game. Here is the video of Borland and Martinez:
  13. Confidence is a good thing for a team with a limited past. Nebraska is not the most talented team in most of their games this year. Miles is turning the corner I think with these kids and they seem to play hard. I also see them having shorter stretches of scoring droughts. If they can find Gallegos and he can knock down the 3's this scrappy bunch will surprize a few teams.
  14. AA was player of the week in the Big 10 last week. Is he our first?
  15. Miles and staff seem to have found the on switch for this group of Husker players. My head tells me they aren't a great team. My heart tells me they could do something special a few times this year in the Big 10. If we can approach the middle of the pack, recruits will take notice.
  16. I'm not sure where the source is for this info but it is the 2nd time I've heard it tonight. I certainly hope it's true.
  17. I continue to be impressed by this bunch and Coach Miles.
  18. I don't know anyone in Nebraska who cares about football who isn't frustrated with our team after the game. What has Rex not accomplished that you think he should have? He played behind Roy Helu for 2 years which limited his carries. This year he was injured for all but 5 games. He is both capable of getting the tough yards and eluding tacklers in the open field. What about Ron Brown don't you like as a running backs coach? We are 10th in the nation this year in rushing in a conference built to stop the run. Your argument doesn't hold water. The penalty situation for the O line is down this year. Even with 3 former walkons as starters, Cotton has improved them this year. Our rushing stats are up as well. There is room for improvement I will agree. Laying the blame on Pap as the D coordinator is probably wrong. I think Bo still has his hands in the defense every week and during gametime. I'm not sure its a good idea for him to do so but it's not Paps fault. Are you at every game to see if coaches talk to players during games or are you basing your opinion from what you see on tv? On the last point I think Bo's seat may have gotten warmer but he is not on the hot seat. Our schedule in the Big 10 will be much easier the next 2 years. He will win more than enough games to keep his job. Winning the Big 10 championship will go through Ohio State every year however, which won't be easy. Bo is not going anywhere soon. Programs with a bigger footprint than ours won't be beating down his door and his pride wouldn't let him accept a smaller position. Until he recruits defensive players that can compete in the Big 10 we will continue to be a 9-4, 10-3 team. We have Qb's in the system that will make this offense very effective. Taylor M for all his skills and improved performance this year is not the ideal Qb for Becks system. He is an improved version of Jamaal Lord. Excellent athlete with great physical skills but limited in his abilities to be a field general. Still he is the best we have last year and this year as far as we know. Armstrong should be a good one in the future and Johnny Stanton could be ideal for Beck. For now I'll live with what we have, grit my teeth some days and rejoice on others. I will always be a Husker fan however and will root for whoever wears our colors on saturday afternoons.
  19. This^ I can not believe that not one Husker OL got in his face or threw a punch. Same with the dive at his knees. We are one physically soft team with no nasty. Bell plays nasty, Quince plays nasty. That is what we need. So our guys are supposed to react by stooping to the same level, hell, an even lower level, than the person that committed the first wrong? No. There are two ways to respond to a player who plays like Borlund. One would be to grab him by the facemask and toss him around like a ragdoll. That would get a player ejected and probably disable Borlund. The other would be to at least get in his face and tell him what will happen if he wants to play that way. As long as no hands are laid on him by our players I doubt there would be a flag. It might cause one of his players to react and get a penalty on them. It would also send a message that no one from Wisconsin is going to get away with a cheap shot which could cause a permanent neck injury.
  20. I would like to throw some blame at Papuchis but I'm not sure what level of decision making he has over Bo. I doubt Bo has pulled his hands free of the defense. I'll agree that the defense played horribly. I'm sure the coaches knew we were going to get stung consistantly up the middle and played our slower, stronger LB's to offset the disadvantage of Stine being gone. That hurt us to the outside. The LB's would get sucked into the middle on the handoff only to have the RB bounce outside. Even the faster David Santos had trouble. Same thing happened in the Ohio St game. Until we have DL players who can hold their own this will be a recurring theme. As soon as they took a step into the line they had no chance of getting an angle on the much faster running back. It's like stopping a leak in a dam. Eventually you run out of fingers to plug the holes.
  21. I saw that and nearly jumped off my stool! It reminded me of the Husker block on the kickoff vs KSU. I wish the refs would quit calling a potential tackler defenseless. You can't run across the field with all your focus on the man with the ball. Thats a good way to loose your head. How does a coach even teach his kids to block in the open field anymore? After that play the testosterone levels went up about 100% on the field. 44 for Whisky tried to head slam Taylor M into the turf and had the big lineman try to cut him at the knees on a late tackle. I'm really surprised someone for Nebraska didn't get in 44's face after that. I thought it could have gotten really ugly after that. http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2012/12/1/3716356/nebraska-vs-wisconsin-kenny-bell-block-boom
  22. This time of the year I think the potential for a bad weather game in the upper midwest would affect our offense a lot more than Wisc. Look at what the weather did to Taylor as a passer vs Iowa? An indoor game eliminates the weather as an excuse. Both teams get to employ their full offense. Best man wins.
