  1. I can't say for sure if Richt would do this but I think a number of SEC coaches tell their lower ranked kids who verbally commit that they could be replaced if another highly ranked kid comes along and wants in. He wouldn't be "oversigning" either. Just shuffling the cards looking for a better draw. That being said I wonder if Richt would take a kid after knee surg and redshirt him to use him for two years knowing it would be a gamble.
  2. It would appear UCLA came to play this week! Almost makes me think they mailed it in last week. But Mora assured us at the press conference they didn't do that so it can't be the case.
  3. I know what I feel like after playing noon "Y" ball for 1.5 hrs 3 days a week on a short court. Even in prime shape, playing 4 games in 5 nights would be draining. Once an older body gets to the point of fatigue it takes a few days of rest to recover. Granted they get paid buku dollars. I understand that. My thoughts are that a coach should be able to play/not play his team as he sees fit. A$$hat Stern wants more loyalty to the league than to the team that writes the checks.
  4. http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2012/11/29/3708640/david-stern-sanctions-spurs-heat If he doesn't want teams to rest their older stars then maybe don't schedule them to play multiple away games in a row and have them play a rested Miami team on their home floor. I think "Pop" decided to get under Sterns skin a bit last night.
  5. My dream a few years from now, is to see the Huskers matched up with Duke and play the game in Lincoln. Can you tell I'm getting pumped for these guys?
  6. He is not highly rated and on some services is not rated at all. He would be a good project with tons of upside. Here's hoping Garrison starts putting the heat on Maliek.
  7. http://www.hudl.com/athlete/166265/#highlights/27081373 He pretty much does the same thing against other teams too. Reminiscent of a big fella that raised cain in the Big 12 a few years ago. During several plays it looks like he tackles about 6 kids and starts throwing them out till he finds the one with the ball.
  8. Jackstack (or Smokestack as it was originally called) has long been my favorite BBQ. I make it a point, over my wife's objections, to eat there everytime we go thru KC. My sons all love it as well.
  9. I was only able to see the last 3 mins. Only one of our tv's gets ESPNU and that tv was on DWTS. (GRRRRR) Great job by the Huskers and Coach Miles. Keep it going guys with USC coming to town.
  10. I've seen it many times. A university gets in trouble with an established coach who breaks the rules but has success. They then hire a decent, honest coach who must pay the price of the previous coach but can't win the games. Oklahoma after Switzer. Tenn after Kiffen. Ohio St after Tressel. Miami after.....well most of their coaches.
  11. The Buffs are caught between a rock and a hard place with coaching. I've heard the athletic dept is broke and now they have to pay off this coach and make another difficult hire. Unless a deep pocketed donor is footing the bill, I'm not sure how they overcome this and get to a better place. Do they have any good recruits we could poach?
  12. Our coaches do a good job of recruiting kids who are a good fit for the team and the state. This year's senior class has been exceptional.
  13. Sounds like good news is coming down the line. I hope you are right.
  14. By his film and his dominance in other sports, one can see he is a good/great athlete. As soon as he gets used to the speed of the game and understands the SS job he should be a great one. I can't wait to see him in a few years.
  15. The improvement in the 2nd half of the season by our Db's made the overall defense better by giving our Dl and Lb's another second or two to harrass the Qb's or find runners. Still room for improvement but they are headed in the right direction.
  16. Most of the fun for me in a Bowl game is seeing the Huskers play a team we haven't faced recently. I'm sure the players want to go up against different players too. Stanford will be a stout team for the Huskers. I think our offense can do some damage to their front seven and I hope by the fourth qtr our conditioning takes over. I recognize we need to take care of the Badgers first and Stanford has round 2 with UCLA. The extra month of practice will only help our younger players improve going into spring conditioning and practice.
  17. Whenever I watch sports on my local Fox Channel (Charter Cable), the picture is so overly large that the score never shows and parts of the play are out of the picture. Does this happen to anyone else? It's as if the center half of the total picture is all that shows.
  18. http://www.hudl.com/athlete/449485/#highlights/4994369 Here is some film of Beau after his soph and freshman seasons. I see a strong, fast young man with good hands. He punishes tacklers and knows where the sticks are. The only negative I saw was the way he carries the ball in the open field. D1 Db's will make him pay if he doesn't tuck the ball away.
  19. Agreed! Baker hasn't been stellar in all games, but I think he had a great 2nd half vs the Badgers this year. It will hurt our rotation of DT not having him available. I hate to see a senior get injured this time of the year. He has put in 4 hard years, only to not be a factor in the two most important games coming up.
  20. I think the argument being made is if both teams (Michigan and Nebraska) ended up with the same record, Michigan would be able to claim, as they did in 97, that we were co-champs. We in Nebraska know that is not the case either time. We ended up with the Sears Trophy in 97 and will be the winner of our division this year. Any bragging or wild claims would be done only by Michigan fans. On the original post, I watched the Mich-OSU game yesterday and was amazed both by the lack of passing and the futility of the passing that did occur. Maybe it was the cold weather, which Taylor M said affected him as well vs Iowa. I texted my son several times about how bad Michigan's passing game was. I remember after our win vs the Wolverines, many of their fans lamented as to why Gardner wasn't the QB that replaced Robinson. Maybe this is why?
  21. I remember watching Paul Westheads teams in the 90's at Loyola Marymount. It was crazy watching them play his version of the game. It seemed their only goal was to outscore their opponent. I believe he tried using this in the pros but I don't think his players bought into it as much. I can see where college kids would love it. It may not work as well in high school as you aren't guaranteed to have skilled enough players who could play a trapping defense or be able to consistantly make shots. I'll bet the kid from Grinnell had to ice his arm after the game.
  22. When Nebraska played in the Orange Bowl all those years following the Big 12 season, we invariably had to play against one of the Fla. teams. Fla St or Miami. Not only was it mostly a home game for them they were also very talented and played a style we didn't see often. Their defenses had 4 or 5 weeks to prepare for our option game. Play those games during the regular season and in Lincoln when the temps were 15 degrees and there would have been a different result. The Big 10 still faces an uphill battle playing SEC teams in the deep south. On another subject, I don't think Oregon gets the chance to play in the CCG. I think UCLA dogs it this weekend to have another chance to play Stanford the next week. They go vanilla and save the good stuff for the CCG. I'm sure they want no part of Oregon. Stanford has to win so they play balls to the wall.
  23. My apologies to all who took offense to my rant last night. At the end of two long solid weeks of 12 hours days. After a good nights sleep I can see I came off a bit harsh.
  24. Like I said....I'm on this post to talk and read about Beau Sandland, not about me.
