The more that defenses concentrate on our corp of receivers, it will only open up the TE's to more catches underneath. The next few years we will have an excellent offense and Beau could step in next year and excell. His best option is N!

It's hard to see how anyone with a hint of knowledge (my category) about football would have the Huskers that low. That being said, this time of the year it really means nothing. Injuries and maturity (growth on both sides of the ball) will make or break most teams by years end.

What we will see offensively from the 4 teams we play early will not be for the most part what we will see in the Big 10. I doubt we'll play as much nickel and dime packages when conference games start. I think our D backs are good enough to go 1 on 1 with many conference receivers so we can focus more on stopping the run game. Here's hoping we figure out how to slow down the mobile Qb's by then.

I think his ankle injury was the notorius "high ankle sprain" that is so hard to come back from. Better to rest him till he is near 100%, then work him into the rotation.

What I saw of Whisky in their game makes me thankful we get them early and in Lincoln. A new Qb and lots of new coaches may have taken its toll. I'm not sure they will be as strong as last year. If (when) we see them in the CCG we will have matured as well. It's hard to tell what OSU has but it will be a test playing them in Columbus. I like our chances this year. Mich (offense) and Mich St (defense) will be strong tests for us. We may have to outscore both of them to win.

When it comes to fans logic I'm afraid emotion cancels it out too many times. Nebraska fans over 35 have a sense of entitlement when it comes to rankings and tough losses by our Huskers. They remember the "Glory Days" and think it should be that way year in and year out. We're on our 3rd coaching staff since TO and while I think Bo is doing a great job under difficult circumstances, it will never be easy till the team climbs to the top. Even then it won't be as easy as Bama, LSU, Texas and USC have it.

I know a lot of people will disagree with me on here, but I think Oregon stole the show with those helmets. WOW those things are sweet!!! Seeing that shiny helmet makes me think how much better they would look with about a dozen nasty looking white and red marks on them from Husker helmets. While we're at it how about a few of those "Duck" feathers ripped off?

This thread has devolved into two separate conversations so here is my 2 cents. Our coaches do a commendable job of getting high quality 3 and 4 star kids to come to Lincoln. For the most part they are kids we would be proud to call our sons and grandsons. In some ways they almost are....we adopt them. They sometimes make bad choices...mine own sons did....but I still loved them. Why do Nebraska high schools not grow the Husker running backs, receivers and linemen we did in the 80's and 90's? Just as individual high schools have good and bad years, I think we are in a downward trend of a football cycle here in the state. Instead of having 4 running backs all from Omaha (95 team) we have none. There are a few 275 - 300 lb kids in the state but not many are D1 prospects. There were none last year and only 2 that I can think of the year before. How long has it been since the Huskers were relevant on the national scene? 2001 Rose Bowl? 1997 Fiesta Bowl? The kids in high school now were 3 years old in 1997 and 2nd graders in 2001. Most of them are aware only of the later Solich years and heaven forbid the Callahan years. I think for too long the glamour was gone. Hopefully the team will bring it back with some good years. There may certainly be other reasons but this is all I have.

The jump from high school to D1 is like going to warp speed for a freshman. As soon as he learns to process the information faster he'll be able to react to what is happening and the game will slow down. I liked how he kept his legs churning and made yardage after first contact. An arm tackle won't bring him down. I think we have a good one

Not only were his throws much better but I was impressed with his progressions. The one time he missed Wullenwaber in the end zone, I could tell he was tempted to make the throw. Unfortunately it was a little late and he found another receiver open and completed the pass. Last year he would have chucked it deep and hoped for the best. Taylor has matured a lot over the summer. The Manning Camp may have helped as much as the Calif camp he attended. If I heard correctly, the Manning camp taught more than just the physics of throwing. They also taught poise on and off the field. I think we saw that yesterday. The combination of Taylor maturing and the receivers understanding what they need to do will make this offense click.

In hindsight TM probably could have come out of the game earlier. Probably Bo was thinking he wanted to lock the game away and end on a high note. RK is certainly no veteran back there. However as well as our line (even the backups) were blocking and the freshman running the ball, I think they may have scored on their own and eaten up a bunch of clock. Hats off the our guys today for a really good first game against an opponent who is no slouch.

If our season goes well, maybe the enticement to play in this offense will be irresistable.

It may be difficult to nail down a grade for the team because we really don't know what S Miss has. If I heard correctly they have 3 or 4 starters from the OLine back from a pretty good team last year. That would explain some of our D Line problems....but certainly not all. We have a fair idea the Phoenix team might be pretty good considering they were large division state champs last season. This may have been two evenly matched teams and the defenses were ahead of the offenses most of the night. JS did some good things and the turnovers kept it from being a wider margin of victory.

I have a feeling it will be hard to keep him off the field this year. If he understands the routes well enough and can do the required blocking, he will see the field a lot!

Hard to tell what the competition is like but Calif Juco is usually pretty good. Kyle seems to get off his blocks well and get to the Qb in a hurry.

I don't see anything but high school film but I'll look further when I have time.

I love the way he plays that role.

Just win all of our games and there is no way to keep us out. Unless the SEC can get the loser of their CCG in over an undefeated Big 10 team. I doubt any Big 12 teams go undefeated. The season starts in two weeks. We'll know soon enough. I think our defense plays better....more depth and skill across the board than last year. Last year we had 3 All Americans and 8 green players. This year we may have two AA's but 10 to 12 other guys with experience. Depending on the Oline we should be at least as good as last year...hopefully more balenced and able to control field position better. It will take some luck but if we have any at all we could be ranked pretty high by the end of the year.

His high school is scheduled to play Oak Hill Academy this winter in the Grand Island Invitational over Christmas break. I was wanting to see them play.

Maybe Bo and Kaz are seeing a skill set in our linebackers that will allow the D Line to change to this new attacking scheme. We have way more depth in our LB corps than we have had for quite a few years. Granted many of them are young but if they are as good as we thought when recruited, it works to our advantage.
