  1. I love how fans treat these kids differently than they'd treat the same scenario in the free market. If a big promotion came around at work that you and one other very qualified employee were fighting for and he got it and not you, nobody would spite you for weighing better options with a different company. You make the decisions that put yourself in the best position to be successful. The same concepts surely apply to talented young collegiate athletes.
  2. Frost was just asked this as one of the last questions in the presser. He said, "What, do you want me to just draw up the play for you so you can put it on the Internet for Akron." LOL.
  3. I've been working on a Jeep project for the last month. Hoping by Saturday morning I'll have my first phase of welding done on it and can get enough of it put back together to be able to fire it up for the first time in over a month. Probably cruise it down 'O' to downtown in the early afternoon and weave around the stadium and the Haymarket to take in the atmosphere for a bit. No tickets for this one though. We're going over to friends' house to watch it.
  4. LOL. You guessed right on a 50/50 odds toss-up. It doesn't make you Nostradamus.
  5. Are you having a specific discussion with someone in this thread? Nobody's talking about Gebbia leaving. Frost said Friday that we'll "need both guys" this season, but the general consensus seems to be that there will be no plan of rotating the two guys. Martinez is the guy. Gebbia is the backup. Verduzco said back in the spring he doesn't play two guys, he goes with one.
  6. Yep. The longer Frost waited, the more it felt like it would be Martinez. This kid has so much potential.
  7. No, I don't think so. I believe he's doing it to push both guys as hard as he can - which pays big dividends very quickly for the team as we prepare for the season - and also keeps the motivation level high for the guy who doesn't get the job that he can work hard and change the coaches' minds as the season goes on if the need arises.
  8. Just as food for thought, in his full post-practice interview today he essentially said the winner of the battle will be the guy that creates the fewest mistakes and makes good decisions. So if that's Gebbia, Gebbia will be the guy. I do think it'll be Martinez, just as a complete guess. Pic or it didn't happen.
  9. We love you, Tre. You'll always be a Husker, and a damn good one at that.
  10. Verduzco is the coolest cat this side of the Mason-Dixon line.
  11. That particular blurb from the article above was referring to Frost.
  12. Heading into fall camp I was leaning towards Gebbia. This is just preseason banter here, nothing to back this up - but the longer they've waited the more I've suspected that they've been wanting it to be Martinez and have been seeing improvement in him and will wind up going with Martinez. Total speculation. Martinez was a more highly recruited guy. If Martinez hadn't signed with us, I would feel 100% perfect about Tristan leading this team. It's almost too close to call.
  13. Pushing both players to give everything they've got is a win/win for the team and for both guys. This staff knows exactly what it's doing. Verduzco is probably my favorite to listen to.
  14. Holy s*** that Greg Austin quote is awesome.
  15. And again, it's about making the reads in this offense. There are some crazy motions, formations, and movement in this playbook. When the play is executed correctly, the defense is exposed, and if the QB makes the right read the exposure gets exploited. I can't wait to see Frost open up the field for Morgan, Spielman, Lindsey, Mike Williams, & Co.
  16. Ha. Well, not too surprising that we don't have an announcement at QB yet. This staff knows what it's doing. There is seriously no doubt about it.
  17. Where we finish in the West this year probably has more to do with Iowa's cross-divisional schedule. They don't play two tough teams from the East, just one - they play at Penn State. So, just as Wisconsin has benefited the past several seasons, Iowa has higher odds of losing fewer games. We play three tough teams from the East. If we lose all three of our tough cross-divisional games, lose to Wisconsin, but beat Iowa, we'd be at four conference losses. Odds are they're not going to lose more than three conference games. They'll lose to Wisconsin, Penn State, and probably us. But will they lose to a Northwestern or Minnesota? I guess it doesn't matter. I'm only going to start caring about where we finish in our division when we start winning it, which will probably be next season.
  18. I'd say that's cherry picking for sure. That one little tidbit (that may or may not even be true) doesn't mean that Frost & Verduzco are prioritizing running ability over decision making and passing accuracy. I feel very sure of that. Milton was not that fast and was not a really dynamic runner. If memory serves, the only QB last year with a higher passer rating was the #1 pick in the NFL draft. His legs were not what made UCF's offense so deadly. It was his arm.
  19. Yes, for sure. A lot of the stuff we've been talking about lately. I'm sure it's an extremely tough decision. I seriously can't wait for the announcement.
  20. Yep, and I think that when Frost gets his offense rolling 2-3 seasons from now Wisconsin will start dreading us and we'll start consistently beating them. I do remember how Stanford had a run of 3-4 seasons where they got the better of Oregon. Stanford had a stout defense, but they'd also grind out long drives that kept Oregon's offense off the field. Have to shut down Wisconsin's ground game.
  21. Here's a question: Are we more likely to beat Michigan or a Michigan State team that returns 19 starters?
