  1. Figured he'd be here to gloat. Turns out he was more right than most thought!!
  2. I think he's also overestimating the impact of losing a couple of assistant coaches. Seriously, his analysis that Penn State should be the division favorite going into next year basically calls the entire rest of the article into question. What an idiotic thing to say at this point. Um, yeah. Word out of State Penn is that they can't get a half way respectable coach to touch that place with a hundred foot pole. Local media there is in a tizzy. It is the last head coaching vacancy to be filled and word is it's because they are getting turned down left and right by their top choices and will have to settle big time with their selection.
  3. Screw The Pump, man. I say we bring in Roos. That way all our players would have a really cool pouch on their shoes to keep stuff in. How awesome would that be??
  4. Interesting theory on that 2013 season, but wasn't the 2010 season set up the same way? Maybe even better? Toughest game was supposed to be Texas and we got them at home (plus they ended up sucking). Coming off of a solid bowl win vs. Arizona. Senior quarterback. Etc, etc, etc...
  5. Yeah, I kind of figured that was the purpose of your poll. Did it really take a poll for you to realize that was total crap? That dude somehow got out of his straight jacket for a few posts (pages) in that thread. Anyway...I see where you're coming from and it appears you see where I'm coming from too. Respect.
  6. I've been accused of being too negative around here, so..... yay
  7. I could see Terry Bowden developing into a top level coach in the next few years. Again. Played D1 fb, wicked smart, great coaching lineage. This was an awesome get by the Zips. Don't see Terry staying more than a couple or three years though. Then again, perhaps he's fed up with dealing with Auburn-type boosters. He won't have that trouble at Akron. Yeah...I always thought the way that whole Auburn thing went down was just weird. From the outside looking in, it would appear that Bowden's wheels kind of flew off there. But I think a lot of inside people would tell you that Auburn deal had a darker side to it. From everything I heard, they basically have one booster (Lowder) running the entire program and once Bowden got sideways with him, his fate was sealed. I didn't blame him for hanging it up after that. But now that he's back in the coaching mix, he should have a pretty fast track back into the BCS level teams...if he wants that. Good coach...good hire by Akron I think.
  8. I have a lot of respect for Frank and he's always a Husker in my book. I'm also glad he's doing well at Ohio. But I don't spend much time looking back on what could have been with Frank as I don't believe he was the right fit for Nebraska's head coach. Hated how it was handled and what was to follow, but he needed to go. And the only reaffirmation I need is seeing that his head coaching career has plateaued at Ohio. If he were "head coach of a major program" material, he would be well on his way to that by now. Everyone in football expressed a collective "WTF?" when Frank was fired after a 9 win season, yet nobody other than Ohio was willing to put their program in his hands...and haven't since. If he were at the level we needed, he'd have been on several school's short list of candidates by now and that just hasn't happened. If he were climbing the coaching ladder and playing in some BCS games, then I would have some serious seller's remorse. But as it stands, the market would indicate it was the right move.
  9. What is this "hoops" thing you speak of? Guess I'll have to google that one.
  10. In other breaking sports news, Woody Hayes was fired for punching a player. Link >>> http://espn.go.com/classic/s/add_hayes_woody.html First tattoos, then cars, now this? WTF's going on in Columbus??
  11. And he's decent about it. It's good fishing, and good fun is had by all. No doubt...wasn't trying to imply any ill will.
  12. Looks familiar... http://www.funnyordie.com/slideshows/aea53b6c88/amazingly-terrible-christmas-cards#slide1
  13. Oh come on Badgerfan...you know how Wisconsin fans get every time the Badgers get to face off against a coach whom they once defeated for a national title?....Oh, never mind. But at least you can remember the last time South Carolina won the national championship and then faced that coach again?...Oh, never mind. Nebraska; the next Minnesota, mark my f'ing words Them's fightin' words right there. You're so easy to draw off sides.
  14. Promote from within, man...it's all the rage!!
  15. Sorry, funhusker but your poll is flawed. Your choices are either...100% for Bo, complete and total blind faith, he's our savior -100% against Bo, he sucks, fire him now - 95% against Bo, don't fire him but I want him gone. Not a very balanced poll in terms of choices nor are there any choices for rational fans who are much more down the middle. At least that's the way I read it. But I guess if I want to bitch about it, I can start my own freakin poll, right?
  16. People who set the bar at Callahan and are happy with anything that's even a little better than what he gave us can kiss my rosy-haired rectum...you all deserve 9 win seasons, no conference championships and no BCS bowls. See how that works both ways?? callahandjob was a f'ing mess who hated being here and hated everything Nebraska stood for prior to him coming here to enlighten the NFL pimple-assed computer-materbating, groupies- Bo is a good coach who will, if people quit being a bunch of pussies about it, keep winning and will start winning conference titles etc. Tom took years before his ship came in, and that was back when we had more advantages (prop 48's more scollies etc) if Tom were coaching in this puss age of the internet weinies, he would have took the Colorado job-and who in there right mind set the bar at 70 point losses? (oh yeah those pimpled-assed internet weinies that can kiss my rosie-haired rectum) so no it doesn't work both ways- sorry At least now we have a sunshine-pumping troll. That's funny right there!!
  17. You see, I consider you a troll. Anyone that watches our incompetence the last couple years as Callahan recruits dry up, and calls people out for pointing out what a fail the Pelini nightmare is, lives in a fantasy world for sure Damn dude...I step away from this thread for a few hours and you pretty much went off your meds somewhere along the way. I saw where you were coming from early on but now you're taking things a lot farther than a rational person.
  18. That's weird. I just did the same thing, likely to the same argument. Yeah, me too. Happens all th... Eh...never mind.
  19. And it's oh, so positive, too. Not trying to be "oh so positive" and never claimed I was. I said to you, knappic, in another post that 2 more years of 9-10 win seasons without any sort of championship is a big question mark and I don't know today how I'd want NU to handle that. I agree that firing a coach with 9-10 win seasons is crazy. BUT, that would be 6 years of what I think most people would consider pretty average football. I guess it would come down to who we beat and who we lost to and how we won and lost those games. You tell me...you good with 9 win seasons and no championships for 6 years? How about 10 years? 20 years? How long is that sort of record good enough for you? I'm good with that for about 21 years, personally. If Bo's career is a duplicate of Tom's, with a few conference championships sprinkled here and there, a sniff at a title game once a decade, and decent overall, even with three losses per year, I'm good. But that's the thing...those 2 things in bold haven't happened yet (I know it's only been 4 years). You're adding conditions that completely change the premise. The question is how long are you willing to go with neither of those happening? How long are you willing to wait with 9-10 win seasons and no championships? You're willing to wait 21 years? BTW...Tom won a conference championship in his 3rd year. So if you are looking for Bo's career to be a duplicate of Tom's, that ship has already sailed.
  20. And it's oh, so positive, too. Not trying to be "oh so positive" and never claimed I was. I said to you, knappic, in another post that 2 more years of 9-10 win seasons without any sort of championship is a big question mark and I don't know today how I'd want NU to handle that. 21. That's a straw man. Nobody thinks Bo Pelini is the greatest coach ever, or even the best coach in football today. You denounce extremist views with extremist views that don't represent what people are saying. The nine win thing is only part of what he's done. He's gotten our academics up to the highest team GPA since 1987. He has brought in a lot of great talent like Burkhead, Martinez, Kenny Bell, Kyler Reed, a bunch of offensive line guys, Dejon Gomes, Lavonte David, Ameer, Enunwa.... all kinds of guys. We have good players at a lot of positions because of Pelini. We've gone to a bowl in every year, we've won four of five bowls under Pelini, we've played in conference championship games two of the last three years.... the list goes on. There is this thing out there where people are crying that "Bo is only hiring his buddies." But that's BS. The coaching fraternity is pretty small, and when you've been in it as long as Bo has, you're going to get to know a LOT of these guys. Who cares if they're buddies? Most coaches hire coaches they've worked with in the past, or know. It's the most common way of getting a coaching job. But because people want to bitch, they throw this out there like it's some huge problem. Les Miles didn't stock his coaching ranks with strangers, and neither did Nick Saban. Seems to be working out for them. Bo sucks fans have no more validity than Bo is good fans. They just have a half empty glass. And you're not down the middle from the posts I've read. You praised that 97 guy who does nothing but bitch about Pelini in every single post. What a joke! There are so many positive things going on with the program right now. You've listed zero. That's not down the middle. That's negativity at its finest. If you're so down the middle then spend a day posting nothing but positives about Nebraska. I'll bet you can't do it, or you slide backhanded digs in, or you just don't post. Fair enough that I've never technically seen anyone say "Bo's the greatest coach ever" on here. But I have seen several people say "Bo is a great coach" and I guess we all just have different views on the definition of "great". With regard to your other points... Academics - We've always been fine in academics from what I remember. The "highest GPA since '87 stat" isn't winning any football games. Great Talent - There's that term again. I'll give you Rex and David...maybe one or 2 more guys. You're really ready to call all of these guys "great"? Based on what? "A bunch of offensive line guys"??? You serious??? Bowls - Going to bowls every year is an extremely low bar. Considering like 70 teams go to bowls every year. Conf Championship Games - Playing in the Big 12 North - again, just not that big of an accomplishment in my book. I am all about hiring your buddies and think Bo's staff should be almost entirely made up of people he is very close with. I totally agree with everything you're saying here. The problem I have is when his pool of those buddies are unemployed golf coaches, high school coaches, etc and the whole staff is just a list of prospects. It might work, but it has to result in a much bigger learning curve than having some proven talent on the staff. I don't have a problem that Bo wants his buddies in there, I have a problem with which buddies he has in there. I'm not calling for Bo to be fired. I think he should have 2 more years. I think he has a lot of potential. But I'm also not ready to say he's there yet because he still has a lot to prove. To me, that puts me down the middle but if you want to view that as being negative then more power to ya'.
  22. It's hard to say whose defense we were seeing out there. I've heard conflicting reports about how much control Bo/Carl had from year to year, game to game and even in games. Nobody really knows. We'll find out soon enough, I suppose. Yeah...I agree with knappic. I definitely never thought Carl was around out of "pure nepotism" that's for sure. I think nepotism granted him some opportunities faster that other coaches would have had to work their way toward. But I always felt like Carl brought a lot to the table. Off the field he was kind of a wash. He had some "dipping his pen in the wrong ink" issues and that situation with the camera after the aTm game was a little embarrassing. But his demeanor with the press and fans overall one could argue was better than his brother's. Carl is a big loss for us but I don't think as big of a loss as Johnson will be for the c$%ks.
  23. Michael Irvin has gone on and on about it just that. I personally think he and anyone else who thinks a college team could beat a pro team is CRAZY, but that's beside the point. Irvin will tell you that since he's played at the highest of both levels, he's right. Says it doesn't come down to talent, it comes down to knowing how to win.
