  1. Hate to say it, but didn't even think of it in those terms. Great point. Not political either. I'll even throw in Appalachia as another crazy impoverished area that could use some help. On a side note, I like your Goruck pics. Did my first back in Dec. Good livin
  2. Real quick. Bought the wife iPhone upgrade at Best Buy. Get the e-mail with the order and directions specifically say "a government issued photo ID required to pick up phone". So I need that to get a phone, but not to vote. Right.
  3. Damnit, you beat me to it. All of his videos are hilarious. I just wanted to say that Mat Best is awesome and so funny. I just watched his videos on his You Tube page for the last hour. He is funny as hell. Some great stuff. Love the latest rap with MARSOC vs Green Beret. Thread Hijack over.
  4. We are simply seeing the cause and effects of year after year of politics. No, not just Obama, but the past 20 years or so, hell even back to Reagan and Tip. One side gets screwed for several years, gains power and wants pay back. Several years later same thing. It is a self perpetuating cycle of stupidity. Throw in guys can have a job with single digit approval a CEO (Pres) who dips below 50% and even lower on specific issues (No guys, not just Obama) and you have a recipe for disaster. What company would continue to employee a person who had about a 7-8% job evaluation? Or "met expectations" at less than 50%. ITS BOTH SIDES. Term limits would help. Also treat Congressman, the Pres and staffers like the .mil and .gov in regards to employment outside your job. No employment with companies who do business with the govt for a period of "X" years. In the .mil and .gov, IIRC, it is predicated on rank/grade and /or position. Campaign finance reform. Each candidate gets an equal amount. No more electoral college. Every vote counts. You want the presidency? Campaign in Idaho. Not just NY, CA, FL and OH. Recall election. You are elected by party A and fail to represent them as promised, Party A can hold a special election to recall your 7% approval rating back to the home state to be fired. Its politics. They suck and its only getting worse.
  5. For everyone wanting to be an Operator, I have posted a link to how to accomplish this. After you know how, you need to get in shape. Another little gem to help accomplish this. For the record, the guy who makes these is a former Batt guy. Not really safe for work.
  6. ....the whole thing...i am not sure about Beck anymore. Read it last night and thought the exact same thing. Letting the D dictate what we do, TE obsolete, BB on grass. Dude has no clue..............Not a fan when named, even less after the initial read.
  7. Here is a simple and effective solution 1) Acknowledge we can't "arrest" ourselves out of the problem 2) Secure the border first. Regardless of reform, an unlocked gate will allow the problem to continue 3) Mandatory e-verify 4) Fines for companies that hire illegals (substantial) 5) Certain crimes (convictions) currently prohibit a person from adjusting and/or applying for status. Do criminal history checks (DNA/Prints) to identify those who are eligible. Creates jobs to administer the checks. 6) Those not eligible will be deported. Those who are eligible can apply 7) The best you can get as a "first generation" new plan is a lawful permanent resident. (Can't vote makes R happy, children will be able to makes D happy) Highest ever for R was 33% IIRC in 1988. 2 years after amnesty. 8) If you are convicted of one of the above crimes after the "new plan" you are placed into deportation. 9) You can not petition for family members to lawfully enter the US. Children, once 18 would be able to 10) Those arriving on a visa, post a bond. You over stay, the monies are used to support enforcement efforts/deportation etc 11) Citizenship gets derived from your parents. Stops pregnant women from trying to cross the desert. 12) The children are and have always been victims in this and other crimes. I can only imagine an increase in trafficked victims with no real way to ID, secure or re-unite them with family. Reform won't stop the human tidal wave. (not yet anyway) It will initially encourage and then get substantially worse. We haven't even started to see the effects yet or the tsunami as it were. (BP/CBP doing no enforcement as they are to busy providing humanitarian aid) Coyotes, smugglers, dope coming in, money and guns going out...... 13)Get rid of all the visa's save education, work and visit. Lastly, realize that BOTH sides give 2 craps reforming for the humanitarian reasons. Money and votes.
  8. Crazy thing to me is the 2003 D Bo called. led the nation in INT's, single season INT record IIRC, NU single season record etc..... I think our decrease in takeaways is attributed to youth and lack of "talent". looking at Bo's success at NU, it is essential to have a dominant force at all 3 levels of play i.e. DL, LB and DB's. His system is predicated on every guy making the correct reads and getting the task accomplished. A DL misses a read and shoots the wrong gap, it exposes the LB who then exposes the DB. This year we appear to have difference makers at all 3 levels. A dominant DL will help any team as it allows the DB's and LB's to pin back their ears and play. I still say the loss of Sanders is evident in the steady decrease as well. I hope Warren is aggressive and wants the ball hawking back. Hail Varsity showed a crazy stat as well. From 2008-2012 we were 90th cumulative for TO's (-14), YET our winning percentage was .700. Imagine where NU could be if we simply quit turning over the ball. After reading that, even with our lack of talent, injuries and youth we found a way to win. Win the TO battle and we would look like juggernauts. Hope we find a way to do that. We do, we will easily be in the B1G this year IMO.
  9. On a side note, I appreciate the fact that this thread has yet to go into the sniping, one upsmanship that usually occurs. Truly just trying to gauge opinions and see "the other sides" thoughts. Thanks
  10. Do I feel he has ever overreached? Sure he has. Do I feel he is worse than anyone else? No. If an "R" had done these things? Bush did it all the time. Clinton did too. I'm assuming it goes back further than that. Every administration enforces laws differently/doesn't enforce certain laws. Is it right??? I'm not sure. But let's not pretend it is unique to Obama. I agree all have done this, but IMO, it seems as though Obama has done more that actually effects our country on a more tangible way i.e. immigration, even changing the way that his ACA is implemented. Is there a difference when the changes actually effect the law. Not sure of specifics where others have actually changed law by not enforcing or truly changing without Congress.
  11. I might be wrong, but it appears that you are saying, "do what ever it takes to get what you want". Have some of these decisions crossed the line in regards to statutory authority? Is it acceptable because he is your guy? Would you be as agreeable if a true conservative was in office doing the same thing? That's my question. Even though you support him, do you think what he is doing is lawful? Constitutionally allowed or setting a precedent that could have negative implications for the country. IMO, what if a conservative comes in and governs the same way i.e. refuses to enforce certain laws? Or actually enforce them to the letter i.e. INA?
  12. A quick honest question. I do not plan to get into some internet tough guy posting battle, but I really want to know if the ardent Obama supporters feel a though he has over reached in some degree with his authority as it relates to the separation of powers with Congress enacting/enforcing law. Specifically, the changes in implementing the ACA, disregard of the INA, Welfare reform Act and Defense of Marriage Act. Not talking about "scandals", but actual laws he has changed without Congressional approval or blatant disregard in enforcing them. Has any president done executive decisions that so dramatically changed/effected law in your opinion. I realize he has "done less" , but have they been more impacting? Do you think this is acceptable? If a R had done these things do you think it would cause more or less reaction? Would you still support these actions as acceptable un Bush? Do you feel SCOTUS made the correct decision on the recess appointment decision? I am ASSuming no, as no one has commented.
  13. Was returned to Libya in 2007 and held until 2010 when amnesty was given to political prisoners. 2011 formed Ansar Al-Sharia during Libyan civil war. Then proceeded to lead a terrorist attack and kill 4 Americans, along with 12-20 other known AQ buddies of his. He was returned and fought again. I think the Taliban 5 will sadly show up again in the same manner.
  14. Couldn't agree more. All the hype poured on both in the national mags and talking heads you have to produce. I look at recent NU history i.e. Rex, Martinez etc.............
  15. Its not rocket science. We all want to win. We clean up turnovers, that is good for 2 wins. Means we only lose 2. Huge improvement.
  16. Do you have a gunshop nearby that has an armorer or gunsmith? I'd try there first. Looks like the price is $40-60 depending. Expensive for a one time use.......
  17. Looking at those who made the list and the "also receiving votes" made me realize 2 things: 1) We have had some straight up beasts at QB 2) We need to find the next great one. That is the key. IMO, we haven't had the physical, put the team on my back, leader QB since Crouch. Stats don't mean as much without the W in the column.............. I am hoping TA or Stanton et al is ready, willing and more importantly able to replicate the QB's of days past.
  18. If true, this isn't good. ISIS has allegedly captured Stinger Missiles. I'd worry less about Iraq falling and how we can protect ourselves against these. http://www.foxnews.com/world/2014/06/16/us-made-stinger-missiles-have-likely-fallen-into-isis-hands-officials-say/
  19. IIRC, Smith and Stafford had 86 and 96 tackles respectively in 2012. Stafford had maybe 51 solo. Stafford was first team all B1G. Coop is right in line with those guys. IMO, he just seems to have more "upside" and more athletic ability than either one of them. Throw in a season where he has a much improved DL and LB corps and we might see the "potential" Kiper sees translate to damn, he can play............... Again, if Coop can play consistent sound football, he has a definitive shot at the next level.
  20. Not bad accolades for a 1st year starter. This will be year 2 in the starting role. Kiper sees the performance, mixed with the promise. IMO, he plays like Matt O'Hanlon. Solid play, very good tackler and plays within the system. I would love to have 2 guys back there as good as Matt was. I do not recall a better open field tackler in quite some time. Get someone opposite Coop who is a sure tackler and plays within the system and our DB's are looking very good. Coop played as a quiet leader who just did his job and went to the next play. The same "blue collar, hard worker, no nonsense guy we need back there. Just a solid play in and play out safety. Couple that with the experience as LB, the solid DL and our D could be something special. Our O limits TO's and this could be our year to finally get the 4 loss monkey off our back.
  21. Yep, I think the party needs to find a good governor to back who has accomplished something. So far the vocalists - Cruz, R Paul, Rubio haven't accomplished much outside of talk. The primaries could be a run a way freight train. While I vote conservative, I don't want a political hack from the right any more than I want a political hack from the left. By the way, I don't think the tea party had actually supported the guy who beat Cantor. I think this guy won on his own They didn't. http://benswann.com/lotfi-dear-tea-party-on-cantors-loss-you-didnt-build-that/
  22. I think a lot has to do with the general perception of the program as well. NU has yet to "get back". If we finished in the top 10 last year or started higher this year, AA and Cross, IMO, would also be mentioned much higher. Winning cures a lot of issues. Until we show we can compete day in and day out, we will continue to get these type of "other mentions".
  23. I think BO and Co have done a good job getting the O and D shored up. OL has depth from injuries, DL looks ready to roll, RB's are solid as are receivers. The LB's are seasoned and we have 3 solid safeties. CB even has good depth. I am worried about special teams and the TO's. Looking back throughout Bo's tenure, ST really hasn't been bad save the past 2 years in punt returns. Get a decent return game going and we flip the field and probably pick up a win or 2 from that alone. Limit the TO's and we easily pick up a win or 2. Now this could mean a net game of 1-2 games per year or as many as 2-4. IMO, we lost very few games on talent, but a lot on the TO battle.
  24. They need to come out swinging every game from the start to the end. Punish teams like NU of old. No more playing it safe and "holding back" plays or schemes. We need to put as much on film as we can for oppossing teams to worry about. Play mean and nasty starting the first game. Set the tone. The half assed playing I have seen for the past 6 years has got to go i.e. allowing teams to actually hang with, come back against and beat us. This is it. We have the horses, let em run.
