I can understand if Northwestern changed conferences and they conjured up a rivalry based on region. It may take time to develop this rivalry. A true rivalry is match where you can go 0-11 entering the game, but if you beat your rival, it feels like a successful season. This is how it is/was with the NFL's oldest rivalry, Bears and Packers, especially when it was Lombardi-Halas and Ditka-Gregg. Personally, I derive the greatest satisfaction beating Iowa, based on the previous coach Hayden Fry and the current one, and other factors, and how they can pummel you when they beat you, like they did to Illinois. To me, Iowa is much more the rival than Illinois is, for Northwestern (who was overlooking Notre Dame for Iowa). And I am rooting hard for Nebraska to beat them soundly, if not this year, in the years to come. It's not like Iowa and Nebraska have no past, they do, in the 80's and 30's/40's. I would think getting beat 30 and 42 points the last two years would stir a anger for revenge. As I said before, Nebraska has a great fan base and are nice people, best in the Big 10.

With Martinez, Nebraska is the team the rest of the Big 10 West worries about in the next few years, combined with the Frost spread. He's developing into a Patrick Mahomes. Wish we had Martinez, or that he was in another conference.

For what it's worth, I felt bad for you guys losing this game, even though it was Homecoming. You were the better team. You have a talented freshman quarterback and a powerful running back. You have a defensive lineman name Khalil not Mack. We have no running game with our star running back permanently retired. Your fans travel very well and by far the best visiting nice fans (Michigan...ugh) to Evanston. With the very painful Westerkamp Hail Mary, with this game I'd call it even if I may. I am a big Nebraska fan the rest of the way, and I gain utmost satisfaction seeing Nebraska beat hated Iowa. I'm really glad to see Nebraska in the Big 10 (nothing against Rutgers, but...). Frost will have you winning the West in two years--wouldn't surprise me.

Good discussion and analysis. Needless to say, Northwestern has recruiting challenges with academics, small undergraduate pool, private status. So it is crucial to play smart, overachieve, synergize. Despite blowing out Minnesota last week, with a lot of turnovers and challenging weather hurting MN, typically the Wildcats will do just enough to beat you. And that's ok against teams with much better raw talent and numbers.

Go Nebraska, and against Iowa too (make them 0-2 against NU; btw, let's call it even with that very painful Hail Mary game with Jordan Westerkamp a few years ago). Speaking of Minnesota and Iowa, and this may be in another forum topic, but I just read that the Black Friday contest with Iowa will come to an end and be replaced by Minnesota. Too bad, I liked that game (Iowa-Neb), that intensity, but Iowa must think Wisconsin is a more suitable rival, who knows.

Yep, the sea of red will invade Evanston, but blend in well with other red Cardinal fans at the Wrigley Cub game, and Kirkwood, before the night game at Ryan Field. Will be a tough one for NU to beat UNL who is on a roll after Oregon, maybe for the Western B10 title. But the Purple did beat the Red at year at Lincoln. We'll see.

Nebraska will beat hated Iowa in the remaining seconds with a swift Holly Holm kick to the head.

This is Nebraska's epic win of the year - huge. Last year's epic win for Northwestern was beating Notre Dame in South Bend. Regarding Iowa: they must be beaten, and it is the duty of Nebraska to stop them. Then it will be a real good Black Friday. Indiana almost did the job against Iowa, Nebraska can do it!!

I'm not hopeful Northwestern can beat Nebraska like I did 3 weeks ago. Too many problems with the offense now. Nebraska is a good team, a few plays here and there and their record would be a lot different. I would feel worse if Nebraska lost to Iowa, than if Northwestern lost to Nebraska. I don't think any team except Nebraska has a good shot at taking down Iowa, before the Big 10 Championship. The Big 10 is really becoming a great conference to watch --BUT someone has to take down Iowa..
