  1. I know the gut-wrenching feeling - November 2, 2013 via Mr. Westerkamp. Win some (Hail Marys), lose some.
  2. Impressive second half. Tough to beat two teams in a row (minnesota, nebraska) with two weeks rest, but this is the Nebraska team we expected when they came to Big 10, power football. Hard too to stop flying quarterbacks http://ftw.usatoday.com/2014/10/watch-nebraska-quarterback-tommy-armstrong-levitate-over-would-be-tackler . See you next year.
  3. I like those a lot. That gold trim looks sharp and pops nicely off the black...unlike the silver/gray (whatever color that was supposed to be) numbers on our red alts this year. Black & gold are the original colors before purple. The gothic lettering is on the main sign on the campus. The #51 is Pat Fitzgerald's number, also another linebacker by the name of Dick Butkus. The defense needs to play like Fitzgerald and Butkus to have a chance against a very tough Nebraska team with an all-american running back.
  4. 1. Car should be ok on Saturday, just need to know where to park in Evanston. The school should have designated parking spots/bus ride. Train (Red line, purple Line-east of stadium) or Metra (west of stadium) is ok too. If coming in from 80 to 55 to Lake Shore Drive (LSD), can see Solider Field and Navy Pier along the way plus the whole lakefront. LSD ends in north Chicago and can take Sheridan Rd all the way up to Evanston. Parking downtown http://chicago.bestparking.com/ 2. Visitors hang out at the parking lot across from Tech Center, near the lake parking lots by the Lakeside field near north beach, or parking garage near sailing center near south beach. Don't know about grilling regulations there. The Nebraska hangout is Kirkwood bar south of Wrigley along the Red/Brown train line, by train or car. 3. 6 hours should be enough. It is homecoming so a lot going on. The campus is good to walk around, there is an inner lake. 4. On the way back if near O'Hare airport there is the Big Ten Museum. Free parking for 5 hours is at the next door Fashion Outlet garage. Also, at the game, try not to wear red clothing, you look like a tourist. Wear purple instead.
  5. NU 37 UNL 31 Rushing 225 Passing 150 Look out for the Gothic uniforms, coolest in the Big 10 -
  6. He will be getting his degree from Northwestern. He could have stayed but chose to leave. Without Mark and Christian Jones, the Wildcats will be the ones needing a lucky touchdown on Oct 18.
  7. James Foley, Northwestern/Big10 (and Marquette) alum, will be very missed. http://www.medill.northwestern.edu/news/statement-on-the-death-of-james-foley.html
  8. Bo Pelini models Nebraska's shocking all-red uniformshttp://ftw.usatoday.com/2014/08/bo-pelini-nebraska-all-red-uniforms
  9. I'm pretty sure the purple line runs until about 2 on Saturdays. Take it to Howard and then get on the red line and that'll take you back downtown. Red line runs all night. http://www.transitchicago.com/redline/ Others are around 2am or so. Kirkwood is walking distance to a Red Stop, in case Brown is closed.
  10. Why is your Nebraska helmet purple? I don't have a red UNL one at the moment Neither do we. I see (http://nebraska.247sports.com/Board/142/Contents/Welcome-to-B1G-Why-is-Nebraska-known-as-NU-4791005) Yes, it looks like the NU trophy is needed.

  12. The new Big 10 conference interactive museum is now open in Rosemont, about 15 miles from Ryan Field on the route back to Lincoln (http://www.bigten.org/ot/big-ten-experience.html) Nearby is a nice upscale outlet mall including a Nike outlet http://www.fashionoutletsofchicago.com/ .
  13. If you had the colors of Kansas State (great football team with a great team name), this wouldn't be an issue for the bi-annual games in Evanston--and the more the merrier.
  14. Nice find. I think this is a take from the Dick Butkus/Bubba Smith commercials: One paper mentioned a letter Richie's father wrote to Huskerboard. Curious to know about it, I found it is still on Huskerboard from 2003: http://www.huskerboa...ncognito-story/ His dad mentioned the top five schools: Nebraska, Miami, Stanford, Notre Dame and Georgia Tech . Stanford would have been an interesting choice for Richie, given Jon Martin graduated there. He mentioned the lack of integrity of the school's recruiting process except for one: Nebraska. Ironically, he singled out "one particular school comes to mind, I won't name it but it is in the state of Florida and you can't go much more south in the state because you run out of land." Not that there is any connection between the school and the pro team. Miami papers suggest that Richie's worst incidents may be alcohol-induced (and maybe drug) and maybe this is the "bad Richie". The video above and his side that the players stand up for may be the "good Richie". But one thing is clear: it's Nebraska's integrity that brought Richie to the Nebraska, and it's Nebraska's integrity that kicked him out of the Nebraska..
  15. This is helpful feedback. I brought it up in other forum as an FYI in early stages, but noticed the lack of response, and understand why now. I admit that the first thought is negative toward Nebraska FB for recruiting him. But until yesterday I wasn't aware that Nebraska kicked him off the team, which is commendable. I know Nebraska won't hesitate to not offer scholarships to players of questionable character and when a recruiting mistake is made, they won't hesitate to correct it.
  16. We'll get the "Kirkwood NU Trophy" back to purple next year at Memorial Stadium East.
  17. Incognito (best name ever by the way) was a beast. Friend of mine encountered him at a part as a freshman and provided a detailed description of what Richie did to some kid who pushed his buttons. Dude was mean. Could you imagine what he wouldve done to Borland of Wisconsin at the CCG when he tried to bodyslam Taylor. Richie was always gettin PF penalties. Incognito is in the news regarding the Jonathan Martin situation for Miami Dolphins. http://espn.go.com/n...han-martin-case Initial reports identified Incognito as the instigator in the Jonathan Martin situation where Martin left the team due to harassment. But according to this follow-up report, Incognito and Martin exchanged a number of texts and Martin didn't blame Incognito for leaving the team. http://www.chicagotr...0,1156501.story Now the Dolphins have suspended Incognito indefinitely: (Quote from below "ESPN.com reported Martin contributed $15,000 toward a trip taken by a group of Dolphins players to Las Vegas even though he didn't go. The report said Martin gave the money to Incognito because he feared repercussions if he didn't contribute.") http://articles.sun-...-miami-dolphins ESPN also reported that "Incognito also was suspended for the 2004 season in college at Nebraska due to off-field incidents." Incognito has also tweeted responses: http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/9924206/miami-dolphins-suspend-richie-incognito-indefinitely-connection-jonathan-martin-incident

  19. I agree, but hurting too much to comment more.

  21. 20 Most Rigorous Colleges http://www.thedailybeast.com/galleries/2013/10/16/20-most-rigorous-colleges-photos.html This is one of the reasons it's been a challenge to recruit, to get talented players who happen to be talented students who can keep up the rigor, like Kain Colter (pre-med). Without huge linemen like Wisconsin, gotta make up for it by playing smarter and faster, but when Colter and Mark are out, it exposes these roster weaknesses. But Stanford is the model and hopefully more depth and size can be added to the roster in the future despite the recruiting challenges. I hope Nebraska finds these graduation rates of the conference to be an advantage and benefit over the Big 12 or SEC, as I assume the Big 10 is higher. You can go to any Big 10 school and get a great education, and maybe play/watch some great football while you're at it.
  22. Yea...you're definitely a Northwestern fan. On this I digress. When visiting my company's office in Columbus, I noticed a lot of workers wearing OSU shirts on Friday. It's hard to see anyone in Chicago wearing NU shirts let alone trying to buy one in the stores.. One of them told me that despite two pro teams to the north and south in the state of Ohio, "this is our pro team". Look in the Chicago Tribune and how scrutinized the Bears are where PURPLE NU gets a half a page at most. When they mess up, it's only a half a page . So I guess I can understand the lamenting about leaving the Big 12 for the Big 10 and the loss of traditional rivals and recruiting pipelines. It would be like Dallas losing the Redskins rivalry and trying to conjure up new ones. Or the Bears losing the grudge match with Green Bay (now more the Lions). When the Bears had Tampa Bay as a division "rival" it just didn't work with the ol' Black & Blue division.
  23. As I recall the primary purpose of going to a university, Big-12 or Big-10, is to get an education, not to get an edge on football recruiting. I think the Big 10 strives to have the balance between academics and athletics for its players, so it depends on your values. But since we're talking about football recruiting, my perception of Nebraska's football success had a lot to do with Tom Osborne, his integrity and his emphasis on education and athletic excellence. I think this is carried over for a few years even after he retired, and blew out Northwestern in the 2000 Alamo bowl. Granted the conference you're in and its football culture (sometimes at the expense of graduation rate and academics) affects recruiting, but what leadership I saw during Osborne's tenure was something that in a large way took care of the recruiting edge.
  24. Wow, I'm impressed with this interest and support. You guys are football gamers. Thanks to you fans who tuned in and cheered on and glad this was a close one, not a blow out. Disappointed with yet another 4th quarter fade, but I didn't expect it to be the game it was. Urban was glad to escape this "12 rounder". Hopefully da Bears can keep up with the high octane Saints tomorrow and the Cats can make Wisconsin nervous next week.
