Not hearing much about the highly questionable defense. I can't get excited about this team at all until I feel like they are going to be able to hold the opponent to fewer than 30 points a game.

Oklahoma State wasn't that amazing. They had absolutely no defense and we had a spectacular secondary. Watching that video, I miss the teams of the Big 12. Maybe it's unfair to compare yet, but It was hard to get excited about last season, and it's even harder this year. Ohio State, Wisconsin, Penn State, Michigan? I would much rather play teams like Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas. I've never liked Big 10 football, can't say I've suddenly started to now.

No, not all of us think that way. Go ahead and say what you want, we should be in every game this year. I wouldn't say that we should be in every game this year. Maybe we have the potential to win every game, but I doubt the team is disciplined enough to play up to it's potential on a regular basis. Unless Bo has finally gotten things in check, there will be significant number of turnovers and penalties. This team has amazing potential on offense (especially if Martinez has really shored up his passing game and is at full speed again), but looks very, very questionable on defense. What two games do we have only a "very small chance" in? Ohio State and Michigan. It took a damn miracle to beat Ohio State at home, and I believe Michigan is bringing back most of that team that beat us pretty soundly last year.

Going through the schedule only shows you the two games we all know we have a very small chance in. Everyone should account for the inevitable upset loss or two, and add at least one loss to their prediction. 9-3, at the absolute best.

Iowa.

I'll be shocked if we make 10-2. Far too many ass whoopings last year and pieces missing from the defense to expect to reach that mark. OSU and Michigan are two pretty likely losses, Wisconsin is a tough one, plus trips to MSU, Iowa, and Northwestern will yield at least one loss. I think a realistic expectation is 8-4 or 9-3 if the annual choke is avoided.

I really disliked ours, but at least they aren't as bad as Wisconsin's.

Also my first game in person. Two TD passes by Burkhead? Are you kidding me?

I know the late Summer anticipation is just painful and people will reach for anything to discuss or analyze, but no amount of walkthroughs are going to show you how he is going to perform in a game.

It makes no sense at all to argue that Carnes should be given a start. The only thing worth debating is why he doesn't get any time in our runaway victories, or defeats. Only 2 pass attempts last year? Burkhead had that many last year. If he really is number two then he absolutely needs to see more game time in case Taylor goes down.

I'm sorry, but I see a huge difference. In the recent pic, he has his left shoulder pointed at the target. This is perfect. His right elbow is high, just as it should be. His feet are parallel to the line of scrimmage, as they should be. In the SC game pic, his shoulders are square with the line of scrimmage. Bad, very bad. His right elbow is way to low. Not as it should be. His feet are pointing downfield and they should not be. Let's see how he composes himself once he's back in the game.

Anyone else find it kind of pathetic that they refer to Hayden Fry as "legendary"? One outright conference title and only one bowl win over a ranked opponent (#20 Washington in the 95 Sun Bowl) in 19 years, and he is a legend? Guess they really don't have much at all to hold onto there.

Can't say he isn't giving it his best shot so far. Let's see if he can manage to steal at least one of these touted recruits from a big name school.

Just another update here; Nigeria lost a nail biter to the U.S. team today, 156-73.

I highly doubt that. This is going to be their best year out of the next 5, and I bet you it isn't that good.

Those are all bright spots, but they don't cover the potential downfalls at all. I still feel like there is a very good chance the defense will be the reason we lose at least 3 games in conference play again.

Nigeria lost to Lithuania today 72-53. Ade played 3 minutes and went 0-3.

I would be happy to get to the Rose Bowl. Really happy to win. BUT I would be thrilled (for the sixth time) to win the National Championship. The goal is to win the national championship. I feel too many B1G fans "settle" for getting to the Rose Bowl. That might be because it's been a while since the Big 10 fielded a national championship caliber team.

I wouldn't expect anyone wanting to make it to the NFL to stick around. You need to go somewhere where you can showcase your talent.

It would be cool, but pretty shocking if they got a medal. Them even making the Olympics is a Cinderella story in itself.
