1. Thanks psycho you said things much more clearly than I did. Iowa certainly outplayed NU. Turnovers....they slaughtered us. An unrecoverable beating, frankly. 1 pick for a TD. Another gave em the ball on the 31 yard line where they scored in two rushing plays. Penalties...favored Iowa. Rushing yards per carry 5.5 to 3.6 and it was worse than that before they put the game away and went prevent. NU managed only 6.6 yards per pass which is way too low if you're hoping to come from behind and win being pass heavy (NU gained only 137 rushing yards). One more interesting stat....Iowa got 1 passing TD on 16 attempts, NU got 0 TD's in 45 attempts. Losing Gerry late in the 2nd quarter surely didn't help things. No one can know how much it hurt. Mavric..it is nonsensical to remove a team's best plays, scoring plays no less, from their data.
2. Nice. It's definitely "More Than Winning." I know you know it, I think the majority of Husker fans know it. RIP Mr. Flotz. The picture that will always stay in my head is the one with the young boy running alongside him.
3. 3 dominant plays = 21 Iowa points instead of 7 NU points. 2 LONG runs boom. 14 points. 1 pick 6 for them, should have been 7 for us (play was open for a TD red rather than TD yellow). You are misunderstating Iowa's dominant quotient by about 21 points and NU's anti-dominant terrible plays. (edit this was poorly worded but the following posts should clarify)
4. http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2016/7/28/12307100/big-ten-conference-football-2016-projections-rankings http://247sports.com/Season/2015-Football/CollegeTeamTalentComposite Saying the team may do better does not mean it's a more talented roster. Yeah I know. So? 3 teams including Iowa are projected to have better starting line-ups than NU this year. I hope NU beats out Iowa in the end and they might. Can NU get some sophomores on the all B1G team? We'll see in 4 months. http://www.bigten.org/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/072516aab.html "Iowa and Northwestern each fielded a pair of honorees on the West Division roster. The Hawkeyes were represented by senior quarterback C.J. Beathard and senior defensive back Desmond King, while the Wildcats saw junior running back Justin Jackson and junior linebacker Anthony Walker Jr.make the list. Wisconsin senior running back Corey Clement completed the West Division honorees, joining Jackson as the only standouts to earn Big Ten football preseason honors for the second consecutive season."
5. My comment is based on hundreds of posts. Anyway....here's one consistent theme of yours that is wrong. You think our athlete talent is considerably higher than it is. Reason's why your opinion on it are wrong have been abundant yet you remain a broken record of incorrectness. Iowa's starting line-up is projected to be better than NU's this year and so is Oregon's. Analysts see it, most serious Husker fans see it, but you don't. Vegas has NU at 8.6 or so wins this year so 8/9 wins are the most likely outcomes and 7/10 are the second most likely. Anybody who says 7 wins is proof that the current staff isn't up to the task doesn't understand what a mean of 8.6 and the associated variance means. This teams has something like a 25% chance (lazy so I'm not going to look at std dev and z-score info to be more accurate) of 7 or fewer wins in the first 12 games. So, I think you consistently argue falsely about NU's starter talent and you seem to ignore downside risk variance.
6. The ref's make lots of bad calls since, forever. It won't get better this year. I'm just hoping that NU is on the good side of the bad luck bad calls lottery. I'd like to see a 2 min cap on reviewed plays unless they address possession or scores. I want a replay office handling these so a UT employee can never again barge in on his employee to help him make the wrong call. Heck just post a vine and let the fans vote. 60 second clock...go. I'd like to see assumption of guilt regarding pick plays. If it looked like one, it was. I'd like to see it changed to "booth makes the call they believe is correct" and does NOT NOT contain the word irrefutable or anything remotely similar. Grow a pair....make the call without the bs crutch excuse. (hello MNC for NU in 1993, and in 1982. Let's recall some big games from the past and correct the record dammit).
7. cm... occasionally I start to think there's something really wrong with you but then I come back to the occam's razor troll answer. But it may be something else. Either way, pull it together man.
8. NU is -8 lifetime today huh. I'm guessing we go 8-0 going forward so it's all even in 2023. I'm a fan of the broken chair trophy, we should hang on to it, perpetually.
9. So I guess aTm has some pretty dumb coaches eh. Good. The more they and UTerus fail the more NU can grab a few quality players from Texas. Uterus has finally hit stride with a solid upgrade in recruiting but I'm far from convinced that Charlie and his ?? remake of a formerly poor staff will do well enough to surpass even Bo, which would get Charlie fired. He's out in 1-5 years IMO...just depends on how many 8 and 9 win years he can get and how long uterus wants to tolerate them. The jokes were sort of funny, IMO.
10. Bouncing back and forth between this and espn....that sounds like a big improvement to me for pregame time. Go B1G.
11. After carefully looking over the predictions and reading what the experts say, I sort of came up with the conclusion that the B1G West is going to be a disgusting pile of garbage. Which is good news! Maybe NU can get a few more wins
12. Just want to mention that game context has a lot to do with 'intelligent' play calling including run/pass mix. Losing by 9 in the 4th, better be passing a lot. Winning...run the clock to :01 and run the ball and stay inbounds. Mike Leach will run a lot when winning late in the 4th. Tom Osborn got pass happy when losing late in the fourth...fleakicker...touchdown, touchdown!! It would probably be a better metric to look at run/pass ratio in buckets...1st half, 2nd half with a lead, and 2nd half while behind. And then, ignore the second half data. The first half data will tell you what the coaches are trying to be. The second half data should tell you if they were usually ahead or behind. JMO.
13. I've read webrumors that Bo was chosen by powers that be...not by Tom. Maybe that would have played out in a way that later Tom made the same choice on his own...or maybe Tom was steered some/a lot, in that direction. Anyone hear/believe such a rumor? Grobe...he wasn't offered, imo. Serious talk...maybe, maybe not. Don't care. Some first time HC trivia. Tom Osborne earned a PhD. Tom trained under a superstar. Tom Herman looks to be a first time HC big success. He's a Mensan. He trained under a superstar. Elite brains such as the Tom's have learn better than anybody else, and they learned from superstars. Anybody know how smart Scott Frost is?
14. 9 wins. Betting line is 8.5 I'll give em the benefit of the doubt for fun (I'd go 8 if I was forced to bet money). Forecasted improvements: coaches/players more in synch. Better rushing offense. 20% reduction in 'really bad' plays from Tommy. Excessive bad luck last year won't repeat. Better pass defense (still not good however). Nothing forecasted to get worse. All that plus schedule should move NU from 5 up to 8 or 9 wins. Luck and uber-winner (can't be beat, won't...be....beat!) attitude could get em to 10 but honestly I don't think this team's starters have the uber-winner attitude (not even close actually). Endless bickering about NU's recruiting stars is beyond tiresome. Starters matter and third teamers and redshirts mean nothing this year. 4 star juniors are more valuable than freshman. All BIG 1st and 2nd team returning players are more valuable than a 4 star recruiting ranking. Etc etc on and on. So much endless myopic BS on this board re the supposed talent of NU's players. Tiresome. Vegas says 8.5 wins. Vegas is the best predictor, you or me...we aren't. The all-Big teams and the NFL draft will tell us exactly how good NU's starters were this year, like always.
15. NU needs to do this. Imagine the recruiting edge when NU has a team of 120 (hey we do walk-ons at NU) young ladies like this for the men's team to XXXXX be fans of.
16. Almost is for losers. Duffy Daugherty turned us down but was the knowledgeable friend in the business since he recommended Devaney to NU. Psycho time will tell about the quality of the Mike R hire, and the SE hire also. Don't you think? Seems that one or both may turn out to be good/great hires. I do agree that since Tom retired as HC, NU has been guilty of some poor key person practices/results. Didn't AD Dollar Bill want Stoops for HC? That would have been a home run but we got Frank instead.
17. LOL Magnus you're harsher than I am and that's not too common. Questions.... Does MR think NU will make the playoffs within the next 5 years? Does MR believe NU will become one of the best offensive teams in the nation in time? Does MR believe he'll sign 1 or more 5 star players in Feb?
18. Sample size 12. Correlation 1.0. "It's mandatory...." ------Vs. ---- It's not a law, not mandatory. Got it. Moiraine, I'd like to point out to you that you asked above....paraphrasing now ....."how are two (very) different forecasting methods....different?" (post 21 para 2). That's not a very good way to win this argument (IMO, just sayin).
19. 8 schools won the most recent 14 NC's, 2002-2015. All 8 are in the top 9 of the Athlon 5 year recruiting ranking linked in the OP. Georgia didn't win one...coach fired. 2001 was Miami with legendary talent. Before that FSU and Tenn with crazy talent. '95 Huskers had Moses at head coach and players like Brook and Ahman were second string. Amazing player talent. I agree with Psycho. Recruit at an elite level or no soup for you. NU is years away. Maybe in '17 an 18 or so class. Maybe even better the following year. Hopefully. No NC's will come from that, however. It'll take at least one if not 2 top 10 classes to have a shot and even then Bama and LSU and Ohio State and FSU would need to cool off.
20. Last time ESPN was lacking respect for the B1G the BTN was formed.
21. knapplc..Relax man the error originated by the Post as you said, so don't call people like me propaganda readers because we read Post originated errors and don't read their corrections. 271k search hits for 147 agents and 166k hits for the corrections. Seems after all this looong time there are still lots of uncorrected pages. I probably won't be the last person to hear about it. dude...when I write "I suspect" that usually means I'm trying to tell all readers that I'm guessing Here's another guess...Hillary is extremely corrupt.
22. Yes because those are my guesses. What about the questions I asked you?
23. I'm not listening to propagandists but what makes you think an FBI referral isn't coming and isn't a big deal? 147 agents on the investigation and you think little or nothing will come of it? I suspect it's expanded to other people doing wrong such as stripping classified headings, lying to the fbi, obfuscation, the IT guys email is now magically missing according the state dept, lying to congress (no emails ...later...well, yeah there are 10's of thousands still on the server and sorry we forgot to return all the emails to the govt 2 years ago as required). It's already known the server had classified at birth emails and that intent is not the standard it's gross negligence and that ignorance is not (ever) an excuse. So some of the defensive rhetoric we've heard is flatly wrong as has been the "security review" mantra from H and her campaign. Comey just said last week in a q&a that it's not a security review and that he doesn't know what that means...it's an investigation. Also I suspect she's guilty of pay for play for massive sums of money from the Saudis, Ukraine/russia, energizer, others. 147 agents need lots of tasks to stay busy.
