  1. haha good post, was in the middle thumbing up a post of my own on the cell.
  2. Debating degree of ugly losses 40 years ago and comparing to present day football is comparing apples and oranges. There are so many changes. Expectations have lowered, football programs have emerged, conferences have expanded and became more competitive. OSU lost to a 6-6 team and still won a national title. We've had a 2 loss national champion in LSU 8 years ago. Not to mention individual perspective of what an ugly loss compared to a good loss is. Some could argue MSU loss this past season was a good loss and were close to completing a comeback, while others will say we got stomped but MSU let up. And my second statement, more of suggestion..if only people kept track of popularity votes for head coaches, like we do for presidents. Maybe every year we should hold a popularity vote for Riley, so that 40 years from now we could have something to refer back to. A preseason August vote, a post season vote, a post spring game vote.
  3. Success, is my opinion. Many reasons out there, but one worth mentioning... Texas was a mid teens recruiting ranking until VY lead them to a title, then they started getting that top5 team ranking talent coming in. Actually, the recruiting class prior to their title run was ranked 19 (rivals), the lowest of any title team in about last 10-15 years.
  4. Just saw that scroll across CWS game, thought the name sounded familiar.
  5. Currently the KC Royals are the most delusional fan base who are about to vote a crappy SS to the All Star game. The kicker is that Royal brass probably isn't too happy about it seeing how they'd be on the hook for 500k if Infante does get voted in haha.
  6. Part of what made Rex stand out to me is he could turn a nothing play or even a negative play into positive yards. There are many plays that stand out, but the epitome of Rex was that Iowa win when he ran up the middle and continued to keep driving his legs while getting help from teammates to push the pile for a first down, or darn close to a first, which helped kill the clock for the win.
  7. It wasn't just the tail end of his senior year; it was his entire senior year. In the offseason we were all freaking out because Helu was listed as an "or" at the #1 RB spot on the depth chart, and from the start Lucky just wasn't the same player, for whatever reason. He gets a bad rap though. Up until his disappearing act, he was a damn good all-conference level runningback. He'd be remembered differently moreso if he was on better teams than if he wasn't a 5 star, imo. He was barely second string to Jackson, who has him beat by two spots on this list, and who only had one productive year, whereas Marlon had 2 really productive years and 2 mostly productive ones. Jackson was pretty darn good and also left a year early, probably a good choice on his behalf.
  8. What happened with the tail end of Lucky's senior year anyway? Did he get injured? His "Huskers.com" bio said he started 11 games up until the CU game where he didn't play because of injury. Or did he find the doghouse? Prior to the blowout loss to OU, he had led the team in carries each game, a few were close to split carries, but he started and carried bulk load. During and after that OU game, he hardly touched the ball, and last 2-3 games never even saw the field. Just seemed weird.
  9. Prolly finish up summer courses to graduate and get the free transfer?
  10. I believe this is a different recruit, Dicaprio Bootle(sp)?
  11. Even Osbornes win in '78 to finally break the ice was a fluke win, unless you don't count 5+ turnovers committed by OU being a fluke, including the most critical one as they were mounting the comeback inside NUs territory and coughing it up for the last time with about a minute to play. Followed that up by choking against Mizzou the following week before OU got a rematch in the bowl game and paid us back in dominating fashion. It wasnt until '79 that NU consistently played OU competitively before rattling off a streak of wins in the 80s and through the 90s. There were some ugly losses in the 70s during TOs first years, which does raise comparisons of Pelini/TO first 7-8 years.
  12. There shouldn't be much change right away, no need to yardsail current system and create some new chaos. Allow OVs to start once completion of Junior semester occurs, allow university to cover expenses for parents/guardians. That change should happen regardless. I could almost see one August signing day for those who are sure about their commitment, no more OVs allowed in season except if it's back to the committed school. Then keep current format for rest of recruits, a final signing period that starts in February. This would give the coaches enough of an idea of who is locked into the future and pin down who is wavering so they can manage their big board for final signing period push. If a head coach, only head coach, gets fired or leaves school at anytime prior to final signing period, then the kid may open up recruitment if they signed in August. My opinion could change if new light is shed if/any change occurs. I almost agree with Bo's stance, once an offer is made, the kid has the choice to sign or not, but even that scenario seems pretty radical and unforeseen circumstances could emerge.
  13. Pretty thick kid for 5'9, could be a physical CB like Fonzie was? I'd take it.
  14. https://twitter.com/ryanbartow/status/610871433745559552 Edit: My bad, kid is a '17 recruit.
  15. Any other stretch of sports where 4 championships are won within 8-9 days? CWS, NHL, NBA, U.S. Open?

    1. ColoradoHusk

      ColoradoHusk

Not all championships, but the week of NCAA Final 4, Opening Day in baseball, and The Masters is quite strong.

  16. This is correct, however Damon Benning is speculating there could be 3 more departures. And there's been whispers of a LB and OT coming in from JUCO and playing this Fall. Sounds like there is still some things in flux in terms of the final Fall roster. i know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy who knows a girl who says one will be Not sure if this was serious but I'm good friends with another Husker athlete (non-football player) who hangs out with Stanton. He said a week ago that Stanton is frustrated but not down. Didn't think he was giving much (if any) thought to transferring. How would he feel about a switch to LB'er? He looks more built to be a LB than a QB https://instagram.com/johnnystanton/ He could benefit mixing in a few more salads and more conditioning too lol
  17. Won't deny that. There have been plenty of train crashes and they do make headlines, especially when there's a big fireball like the one in Virginia. Mainstream media covers them, and NBC News reported that oil train dereailments hit record numbers in 2014. Even the Daily Show did a segment on how trains might be more dangerous than pipelines. If the implication is that Buffett can buy, or simply get sympathetic treatment from liberal media on railroad related stories, it's a dubious connection. Train spills are typically much smaller and more easily contained than pipeline bursts, especially where water is concerned, so they might affect fewer people. The Keystone Pipeline story is pretty interesting in that it's hardly unique as pipelines go, but environmental organizations decided to draw a line in the stand and make Keystone a litmus test. I also think they really, really hate the Koch Brothers. It's not even just liberal media, that he also owns, it's politicians and a president that veto the bill. But even heavy liberal media in Seattle WA are finally coming around to questioning BNSF and their lack of reporting spills.I can definitely buy your last sentence. Agree. The Koch Brothers are just awful human beings. Yes, demonize people who have different ideas on how to address problems. (For those who don't know, they are libertarians that have the audacity to support ideals that they believe in, many of which liberals now embrace (gay marriage, legalize pot, etc.) and claim moral superiority). It was a wee joke, aimed at a poster who was slyly demonizing a man with different ideas on how to address problems. In truth, I would support the candidacy of a genuine Libertarian. And since America has an established Libertarian Party, I can't wait to see the Libertarian candidates the Koch Brothers will be funding with the billion dollars they've promised in the coming election cycle. I think they're awful but hey....prove me wrong Koch Brothers! So a person with liberaterian ideals should support someone who has no chance; or rather, should that person support someone who may win and is closer to thier ideology. You tell me what you would do.It's funny to me how certain people choose to demonize a person who disagree with them (I'm not talking about you), create a negative characture of them, and propagate that image, and people/media without thought or review accept said falsehood - even attacking those who disagree without out even entertaining the thought they may be wrong (yes, I know a lot of you will use this comment against me and claim its ironic - I'm willing to accept that challenge and debate you on the point and see where our discussion goes). You're kind of condescending, Guy. I don't believe I was slyly demonizing Buffett, I was pretty clear that I don't trust him. Bit of a difference between merely not trusting Buffet and your seemingly factual assertion that he controls politicians, the President and a sympathetic press to hide his misdeeds and agenda. See how tricky this is? You're gonna talk about how self serving the Koch Brothers are, but you're going to give Buffett a pass and deny his influence on politicians is laughable. It's a wee bit hyporcritical.
  18. Well, yeah. So now imagine Frazier, Crouch and Frost behind a below-average offensive line, supported by a defense ranked in the Bottom 50. Does that exact same offensive scheme impose its will and win the same number of games? Does that triple-option "offensive identity" buy you anything? Would a coach be on the verge of getting fired if his offense was so predictable that it lost big games badly against ranked teams that matched up physically? Cause that was Tom Osborne's first 8 seasons . Not sure where you get your stats, but our National Championship teams in the '90s averaged between 137 and 156 passing yards a game, and between 14 and 20 attempts per game. Not exactly nothing. We tended to pass a little more in some of the bigger games, including 27 attempts against OU and 23 against CU while we were a rushing powerhouse in '95, 25 attempts against FSU in the '94 Orange Bowl, 20 against Miami in the '95 OB. The passing game helped the running game. Tom Osborne would never argue with that. The option pass hitting the TE was a thing of beauty outta that option formation.
  19. So for the finals, do they start from scratch or do that combine previous performances to their overal rankings? I know some don't like Dilfer, but he has a pretty good eye and knows his stuff, POB is getting invaluable coaching. Edit: I know you posted a different camp than the Elite 11
  20. So is it illegal to set up a gofundme account? Lol
  21. There was an update ($) on Quayshon from a recruiting service today, not a member, anyone able to sum it up?
  22. There he is! Welcome back...Yup, getting more commits outside of KJ's web of kids will be necessary, but Riley not using his netowork/connections would be silly and stubborn, in fact, leveraging his relationships is quite intelligent.
  23. Harbaugh just reeled in their second 2*.
  24. I'd say we are still the front runners, but I agree he will get some offers. I see this one playing out a lot like Neal. It comes down to two things for me: 1) Does he prefer one position over another? If he prefers TE, will we have room after Friday? I expect Stoll to commit, I guess that comes down to is Bubak actually committed and/or are we ok with taking 3 TE's? We should have room at DE, which is where I think we are wanting him so far. 2) Distance, IIRC he has talked about distance playing a factor. Will it matter come Feb? Was reported that he was working out at TE this weekend so take it fwiw. Think his spot depends on where happens with our commitments. Not out of the question we take 3 TEs. Still think he'll be N.His score sheet said DL for position, did/can he work out both or just signed up as DL but ran with the TEs?
