  1. I nominate this as the "understatement of the year" post.
  2. And why is that? Its just to damn slow. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but does anyone remember when we had 295 lb DE and a 285lb DE? We need to go back to the days of guys like Wistrom and Alberts, those guys could really really run. I mean, Carriker is growing into a DT instead of a DE. Its rediculous to have guys that big and slow on the ends. We need 4.5 or 4.6 type guys on the end. Same goes for the OLB spots. Ruud and Bradley are just to slow. Get more speed on the field.
  3. True, but Dave Lapham is as good as it gets for an anyalist. He is very informative, actually seems like he DOES do his homework. Usually has nice things to say about Nebraska.
  4. To me, part of the problem starts up front. Cryer and Dagunduro are not as good as we had last year. Teams can afford to double Carriker. Bradley and Ruud have to go. Nice guys but they are just to slow to play those positions effectively in the Big 12. This defense is way to slow. We need some 225 lb safety playing the outside backer position who can run a 4.5 or better. Bradley and Ruud are to slow to the edge. The lack of a pass rush isn't doing the db's any favors. Teams are having to much time to throw, and the db's cannot cover that long. Sure we need better talent in the secondary, but to me more pressing is the lack of team speed on defense. We need some speed NOW, in 2006, not next year or the next. Play the speed. Bradley and Ruud are not going to scare any Big 12 offense, period!!
  5. Yeah, it's pretty crazy. Feel bad for the guy He certainly can afford having the surgery. He is a solid coach and a pretty good dude. I would think his weight would effect his recruiting. With a man the size of Mangino, the surgery is really the only option.
  6. Careful, we haven't made it in thier yet. It will take a humongous effort tommorow to get in that talk, not til then.
  7. Yea, I watched that as well. Not much good being said of NU right now. It's pretty imperative NU at least pushes the hell out of USC tommorow or we could be off the map for the rest of the year!
  8. Yes, NU has looked impressive in the first two games. THEY SHOULD HAVE. Those were completely outmanned teams we played. Next week, USC is going to be a huge step up, a gigantic step up from what we have seen to date, and it's in thier house. NU will have to be on its game and get some USC breaks just to have a chance. I think there "O" is going to clean up, so NU is going to have to score some points just to compete and hopefully have a shot at the end. We find out where this program stands this week!!
  9. No offense, but USC should be doing the talking. They have played a bunch of Nebraska's in those 48 games, and they beat all of them but two. Until someone says otherwise on the field, they are walking the walk!!
  10. Similar. Thiers looks a bit easier for the kids, a bit less complicated if you will. They also have much less shifting and motions than NU does. We are going to have to score in the 30's to win that game. USC is really, really good. It will take a callosol effort to hang with them.
  11. Not to be harsh but Iowa State has beaten NU fairly easily the past two visits there and this NU team so far under Callahan has blown on the road, save for one game. Those are, until proven otherwise, reasons enough. We need to prove we can win on the road first. Heck, as far as I am concerned, all of our road games will be extremely difficult, not just Iowa State!!
  12. All that build up for this. All coaches go through this every year. You know how many requests BIll Callahan is getting every month to "bolt" elsewhere I seriously doubt that Bill Callahan has had a bunch of offers, other than maybe a few OC jobs in the NFL. If he puts up some wins here, then maybe, not until then!!
  13. He is an pompas ass jerk. Ever since his Lynn Swann comments at halftime of that LSU NC game in 2003 when he said: They don't have the #1 defense, we do, this while his team and defense is being taken apart by the LSU offense. I mean, what other chump would have said something like that, while at the same time getting your ass kicked? I cannot stand OU or anything they stand for. I mean, they welcome back known cheaters (Switzer). Why would any program welcome back a coach who caused them to be in a decade long funk, or name the new athletic center after him? Only Oklahoma. Switzer cheated to win. Screw OU and Stoops. If NU ever had a coach who was found to be a known cheater, I would hope the fans would delete that name from memory.
  14. Certainly, all four are not going to be able to play, there aren't enough carries available. To me, its gonna make sense for someone(s) to redshirt. Glenn and Lucky have redshirts available, so why waste'em? If the competetion is this close, you have to at least try and redshirt at least one guy. It just does not make sense to waste another year with Marlon or whoever getting 20 or so carries all year. Any thoughts here????
  15. I could not agree more, maybe other than the fact that thier faithful are worried about NU. I think the majority of thier fan base thinks this will be an easy win, hell, most of the country will think this, I know they do here in Oklahoma. What will change if USC goes to Arkansas and lays the wood to them again?
  16. You know, chimming in here. Why wouldn't one pick USC? What are they, like 34-1 over the past three years, with two NC's? Plus, they have recruited out the ying yang. The've got talent, a boatload of it. Nebraska has to prove something first. To much has been put into beating a punchless, beaten CU, and one of the worst Michigan teams in the past 15 or so years. Hell, if my life depended on it, I'd probably pick USC as well, they have earned it. If you do this stuff for a living, and are not connected to NU, you pick USC as well. That said, lets go kick thier a***s!!!
  17. I could not agree with you more. KSU in 2003 was the last year the North had anything. Its Texas and Oklahoma until someone says otherwise!!
  18. Lets hope the announcers for the La. Tech game have done thier homework and show the Nation the upgrades.
  19. Lookout for him lining up in the slot similar to how Bush was used at USC too. Thats what I'm talking about. Lets get the best 11 on the field. Marlon supposedly has some really good hands. Using him like Bush would be awesome and create some mismatches for the D. Ideally, if he could tote the rock 15-18 times a game, catch 3-5 balls, and possibly even be a dynamic return man, we would have a weapon defenses would have to respect. Get the playmakers on the field.
  20. Is anyone else out there at all concerned about our defense? I mean, most everyone is saying how this is going to be a big time defense. We gave up lots of yards and points last year to anyone any good that we played. We also lost some solid senior leadership up front. Until I see us shut down a very good team, this defense is nothing more than average at this point. I see NU having some growing pains on D, mainly because of newbies up front (I realize they have played). Couple this with the loss of Bowman, and we could have some problems stopping folks if EVERYTHING does not pan out. At this point, I would be happy if they were just as good as last year, about 25th or so in total defense. We'll find out when NU plays USC what type of defense we have. Thoughts??
  21. Interesting article. I still believe it starts up front on both sides of the ball. You have to have 2 guys in the middle to stuff the run, and you have to have guys up front to protect and block. If either of those area's are weak and exposed, you are not going to win the NC, simple as that!
  22. Easily IMO. You go back, say you're sorry for letting down the team and explain to everyone his mom's comments in no way reflect his opinions and he doesn't agree with what his mom said. Saying and doing that to me would get him more respect from the rest of his team and maybe even the fans but he took the weak way out. i can almost assure you everything that came out of his mom's mouth, came out of Harrison's mouth 1st.....he wasn't going to change his mind, he was gone hunter I completely agree. He said it to her and family prior, and they started believing him and bingo, mom pops off. On the other hand, I suppose you can't blame a mom for backing her son, but she should have gone about if quite differently.
  23. Did Paul Thompson graduate? If I were a sooner fan I would hope so...played horrible in his 1 shot he had last season. He's still there. Possible replacements would be: Paul Thompson Joey Halzle Sam Bradford There is also a second year walk-on named Hayes Mckekern from Texas. Bradford is an incoming Freshman.
