  1. I agree - Saturday will be an unveiling of the talent and speed we can expect to see all season, not a display of competitive football. It will be an old-fashioned ugly ass whoopin'.
  2. Over Number of beers I drink during the game: 10 Under - you'll forget to finish the last one. O/U: Combined carries for the frosh RBs: 10
  3. They should ahve picked Don Cheadle instead. He made a pretty convincing Captain Planet.
  4. I think Affleck is turning into one of the better directors out there. The Town and Argo were pretty good, and Gone Baby Gone was outstanding, imo. But I think he's always been fairly lame as an actor, despite being in a few good movies. I never saw Daredevil but have a hard time picturing him as a good superhero. I like Val Kilmer and George Clooney as actors much moreso than Affleck, and they couldn't pull off a good Batman, I might have some trouble taking him seriously in that role. He'd be better off sticking to directing.
  5. I do not know you so this is not a personal shot at you, but what you said here pretty much sums up the hypocrisy of a majority of the Nebraska fan base. And I think it is pretty disgusting how so many excuses are made for Bo when he does the same things that Callahan did. There are some preeeety big differences between Pelini and Callahan though. Being competent at your job earns a lot of leeway. Besides, Callahan didn't just close practices, he took down pictures of previous eras and put them in storage, he shunned former players, he openly dissed Osborne, he trashed the walk-on program, and he lost a hell of a lot of games. Closing practices is something most coaches do. The hyperbole about targeting former players is bunk. Bo has shown respect for tradition (unless you wanna argue about handing out blackshirts, lol) and has grown in his job, and is looked upon favorably by most of Husker nation. That's not to say Bo should be immune from criticism, we should be free to criticize as much as we want. But this is honestly not a big deal, and to compare him to Callahan because of it is downright silly.
  6. Is this supposed to be a poem or something? Why is every line centered? As a shareholder of the University, I demand that ex-football players' opinions be formatted with Left justification. I deserve that.
  7. Disagree. It's our team. Without us, he has no job. Without him, we'd have a different coach. Who's the last recruit you signed? What play have you ever called from the sideline? What practice have you ever organized and ran? What game plan of yours has the team ever executed? Name one team/player issue you have ever directly dealt with. If it's your/our team to control then you/we must've hired/retained Bo because he is here. That is the context in which I stated "It's Bo's team". Exactly... he is the CEO of this organization, but not the owner. He still answers to the shareholders, and sometimes it would seem that he could use a reminder of that. LOL, you make it sound like Bo is some out of control power hungry lunatic who isn't doing his job. Bo's popularity/job approval is just fine, even if he did have to answer to shareholders, which he doesn't. Are you suggesting that the Athletic Department is a publically owned company? Fans are not shareholders. They are customers.
  8. http://sportsillustr.../#ixzz2ciKwInpn Hey I love practice reports and info about the team as much as the next guy, but how does this dude figure that anyone is entitled to more info? People who pay good money for a ticket deserve a seat in the stadium, and that's about it. Practice updates are for our curiosity and our human penchant for gossip, but a fan's support of a team doesn't entitle him or her to jack squat.
  9. I kinda got the creeps reading the first half of this article. I was expecting the writer to walk into one of these deserted buildings and find a bunch of bodies or something. Or finally find the lone resident, who never speaks but instead just carries a lantern and beckons him to follow her to an old cemetary. I'm glad it had a happy ending, though.
  10. So... Bo closes practice = he sure as heck does not know much about PR = it will be his demise Is that right?
  11. If the Journal Star gave the full text of the email, there is no indication that the message is targeting former players or anyone in particular. It's okay to have closed practices for a while without getting our collective panties in a bunch. The thread title may as well be "Bo closes practice to HuskerBoard members, Kirk Herbstreit, and cancer patients." Just depends on what reaction we're looking for.
  12. ***Side effects include crashing your car into a tree, having your wife chase you with your own golf clubs, and failing to win a major golf tournament for five-plus years. Consult your physician. Something as simple as Bendadryl often works for me, when I remember to take it in time. It is the exact same ingredient (diphenhydramine) in OTC sleep-aids. The only problem is I have to remember to take it well in advance of going to bed so it can run its course by the time I have to get up in the morning to avoid being a zombie.
  13. Fact. Fact or fiction: Kenny Bell eclipses 1000 receiving yards this season.
  14. Fiction Fiction - it'll continue to be the secondary Fact or fiction: a true freshman will start on opening day Fact. Gerry and Carter have the best chance to be starters. Fact or Fiction. Bo finally gets us to a BCS bowl. Fact. He's due. Pass the kool-aid. Fact or Fiction: Tommy Armstrong throws a touchdown pass against Wyoming.
  15. I agree, but it feels like I actually say that every year. The only interesting off-season that went fairly quickly was 2010 because there was enough conference realignmnet drama to pass the time. Every other year feels like the worst offseason ever. NEED FOOTBALL.
  16. I used to live in Colorado and dated my fair share of CU fans and former students (in the early 2000s before they totally fell off the cliff). The bantering and ribbing between our teams made for quality flirting and really good times in the sack. It was only when I met their male friends that it became annoying. Also, I started the survey above but it looked way too long, so I bailed.
  17. HELL YEAH! This part of your post had me fired up and ready to break down a wall so I can sit on my couch and watch football (if my couch had a wall in front of it for some reason). But then this sentence: sort of describes the head coach that those teams in the 90s had. There must be a different reason for the difference in game day attitudes, perhaps.
  18. I can't tell if that's better or worse than the one Mizzou put out a couple years ago:
  19. Good to know that if we lose, I can blame your wife. Or can we blame Paul? He ain't doing it right! If his performance was lacking, then yes, we can blame Paul. I bet that happens more than we would care to know. Perhaps the scheme is too complicated, and someone with more knowledge needs to be inserted. Speed isn't everything.
  20. Nevermind, I found what I had read before, but it was just a debate; no actual research data on injuries, and it was about scheduling too many ultimate frisbee games in youth tournaments. Not exactly the same situation. The logic of the arguments were about overuse injuries and liability, and how other sports and state athletics associations limit the numbers of games and practices for youth sports.
  21. Can't you adjust your computer settings so all fonts and images are bigger? I would think on most computers, changing the "view" settings would be easier than changing individual fonts, and it would enhance your entire Internet experience.
  22. I thought I had skimmed some research a couple years ago about overuse injuries relating to younger kids participating in too many sporting activities without rest, but I can't find it. I'll keep looking. If I recall, it suggested limiting numbers of games and practices in order to avoid long-term injuries and complications on growing bodies. But I could be talking out of my ass since I can't find the actual information. I would think the kids would have enough energy to participate, but the effects down the road would be worse. If it were my kid, I'd probably limit him to one league. But then again, I'm sure this isn't an issue my son will have to face as he gets older considering his weak and scrawny genetics anyway.
  23. I have several Husker shirts, none better than the other, but only one pair of Husker socks, so those get worn each Saturday in the fall. I bought them a few years ago at the Husker store in Estes Park (there are two of them now, but it's the one the Jess Kosch runs, Big Red of the Rockies I think). The store was quiet, with only Jesse in there manning the desk, and he kept saying things like "only 20 days until kickoff" to break the ice, but I really wasn't up for talking much, and it was kind of awkward. He mentioned how he bought the Husker store, but then the previous owners opened up another shop down the street, and he wasn't counting on having competition. I bought the socks out of pity more than anything. But now I wear them for every game.
