  1. Why didn't Beck try to get a FG before the half? Why is he so screwy?
  2. I learned that our offense is erratic even against a team like Southern Miss and I don't have any idea what Beck will call or what Martinez will do with it. It looks like our defense is young but starting to gel and understand how the pressure and coverage work together. The run defense was obviously much better but who knows what that means at this point? It looks like we have a lot of talent but I'm not sure if we'll know how to use it against the big boys. Next week is HUGE!
  3. I want to see 5 guys wreaking havoc in their backfield every play and tight pass coverage. Also, no open field runs because 8 guys are in coverage. On offense, I want to see Martinez in charge and playing with urgency, like he means to go down the field every time. Then I want to see the other QB's on the field.
  4. Probably check out the new arena and wander the Haymarket. They'll have it open again for another watch party like last week, starting at 2:00.
  5. Yes, 'yards per play' is the crucial stat and should always be surrounded by banners and lots of flashy graphics because it means you're giving up an average of yards divided by the number of plays.....very critical!! For instance, if you give up 80 yards on the first play, then your number of yards per play is 80 and that's very bad. Now if you give up 80 yards on 5 different plays but only 2 yards on the other 50 plays then that's....just a second while I get my shoes off.....500 yards and they scored 30 points (was playing a very poor kicking team that missed all the kicks) and that's 9.09 yards per play. Okay, then the next game you give up 6 yards in 100 plays and they score 470 points and you gave up 6 yards per play.....that's not as bad.
  6. I guess you react by hanging in there and cheering for the team until the game ends. I'm not sure why people set incredibly high standards for the team and then spend the entire season complaining except maybe that's what they really like and not the team? It would take all the fun out of it for me if I cried the whole season.
  7. They should keep the black shirts in a closet until they agree to once again instill our defensive players with their magical powers. That'll teach them!
  8. When you don't creatively blitz it wears on your D-linemen as well who must get frustrated fighting the entire game with lousy results. It appears that either we held back so as not to show our hand to the big teams or the coach feels we're not ready to do anything fancy without causing a bunch of coverage busts.
  9. We pressured the QB and he panicked most of the time.....then we laid back and he had his way with us. Linebackers, if there were any on the field, were non-existent. DB's were too far off the receivers most of the time, probably due to the ten minutes a play they had to cover. When our guys were in position, we dominated. Is Charlie McBride available?
  10. Newby looked good, he just didn't look fast. At least not Ameer fast. No, Newby is fast, faster than Ameer. He has track speed, plus has completely natural, great moves and some power. He's the real deal. At no point did i see Newby running faster than Ameer. I did not say Newby wasn't fast. Maybe its just that Newby doesn't have that initial burst of speed that Ameer does when he gets the ball. I see Newby as a dodger, Ameer as an all-around back who can run inside and out with power or finesse, and Cross as a Makovicka type crazy bull.
  11. No doubt about it, I give it to Imani Cross with Enunwa a close second. The main reason I give it to Cross is not only did he run like an angry bull, but he picked up the whole team and gave them confidence, like a shot of adrenaline. There was a noticeable difference in the team's attitude after he got through stomping the Cowboy defense. On defense I give the game ball to the punter Sam Foltz who did more to keep them away from the goal line than anyone on defense.
  12. I'm gonna jump in here again. It was 93 degrees and humid as hell. We played a bunch of young guys. The Wyoming coach was Pinkel's OC and probably knows us like the back of his hand. The Wyoming QB was better than the Missouri QB's we played. We won but should've won by more....the reason we didn't is because we let up on offense and 'called some bad calls/ didn't execute' at critical times. We were also getting new players onto the field while Pinkel's boy was still going full speed ahead, which made us look worse than we probably are. I think there's plenty of upside for this team.
  13. I agree...Brett Smith is a gamer and the former Missouri OC had our number.
  14. They're calling that now ....so aim lower. We're still talking about the non-call where the K-State guy about broke Crouch's neck. I'm okay with protecting the players ,I guess.
  15. This is the thread to brag about Newby, not to detract from anyone else. I'm sure there are a lot of people like me who didn't expect to see what we saw and are pretty excited about our talent at I-back. I remember when Osborne had the We-backs...now we have three great backs with unique styles who should be able to get the job done in any situation.
  16. I was thinking Barry Sanders.....I can see why he was the #1 runner in California.
  17. Our secondary played too far off receivers, that can be fixed pretty easily with more experience and confidence. I thought from the talk that we had the kind of d-backfield we had with Gomes, Hagg, Dennard, and gang....maybe we do. They had some good breakups. Our D-line is young, it was really hot and humid, they seemed to give a lot of effort for the conditions and the limited stunting. I'm not impressed with what I saw from our D coaches, but there were times when the D was fired up and looked good. Are we missing linebackers......aren't there supposed to be some on the field tackling runners? Except for the one long run, Abdullah didn't look as good as I thought he would. On the other hand Cross and Newby looked great. I'd still like to see a game plan where the I-backs are used better....they get in the flow and are not pulled in and out for no apparent reason. I saw a comment that it's over without Martinez....I was thinking he still struggles to keep the offense flowing while the opposing QB looks like Peyton Manning. I think another QB might reduce the drama and get the ball into the hands of our many skilled players more consistently instead of every down seeming like a crap shoot.... Too bad we didn't get to see any of them. The O-line ,while kind of crappy at the beginning, played much more consistently than I remember seeing in a while and the pass protection was pretty good the entire game. They seemed to gel as the game progressed and did some fine run blocking in the second half. Enunwa had a great game...other receivers could've been used more. Cross is a monster and Newby don't run like no newbie. The kickers look mighty fine. The cheerleaders need to kick higher but their pompom shaking was very enthusiastic.
  18. I picked The Saucer because the design is obviously a replica of the flying saucer that the ancestors of the business leaders of Lincoln flew in on.
  19. Martinez and Kellogg III are seniors, Armstrong is a rFR who most likely will be the starter next year. Like y'all, I hope he gets some serious playing time when it matters so we'll know more than just speculation from a few glimpses of practice. I don't think we'll really know anything though until he starts against someone like Wisconsin or Ohio State. There's a lot to learn and remember in this offense.
  20. I think Abdullah is a much better runner than he's gotten credit for in the press. I see the first drive as ball control with Ameer doing most of the work. Who takes it in is just a matter of opportunity....could be TM, Ameer, or the fullback. Then again I could be completely wrong....I just don't see us trying to air it out in hot weather against Wyoming, it's not our style to pull trick plays, long bombs, or run up the score in a game like this.
