So, UNL graduation today. There’s a clear bag policy. My daughter forgets and brings a small clutch purse. At the gate, they take her purse, put it in a gallon zip lock bag and give it back to her to carry in. Please explain the purpose.

This happened to my wife and I at Soldier field before a Rolling Stones concert. Her purse was small but apparently not small enough however they weren't going to let her bring it in at all. She grabbed her wallet out of the purse and then we left the gate and I ran for a bit and stashed her purse in an almost maze like area of shrubs that are just outside of the stadium. No one saw me stash it and sure enough it was still there hidden after the concert. I'd say your daughter actually got lucky but yeah that sounds completely ridiculous.
