  1. OK...I have a question for everyone who claims to be a brisket expert. I have cooked one heck of a lot of briskets. Here is my problem. I can not get it to slice nicely with out falling apart and basically be pulled beef. Everything I have ever read about it claims to take it to 190 just like pulled pork. Well.....the reason you take pulled pork to at least 190 is because at that temperature the water cells in the connective tissue burst allowing the meat to fall apart and thus....become pulled pork. Well, the same thing happens with brisket. So, at what temperature to you cook your brisket, for how long and at what internal temp is it when you take it off? I can make pulled beef that tastes DANG good. I just wish I could make sliced brisket.
  2. krc.... I am really interested in how schools are handling Common Core. Please expand more on how your curriculum pertains now to Common Core and how it has changed. I ask this because opponents to CC have said that schools will now just teach "down" to the test standards and they won't go above and beyond to actually be better. Thoughts?
  3. Brilliant political move. These people will have temporary protection for three years. That puts the end of it square in the middle of the next administration. Only two things can happen from here. a) The Republicans get off their fridgen asses and actually pass an immigration bill. b) They go into panic mode and claim the world coming to an end because (the horror) some people have been given protection under the law............They lose every hispanic vote in the next election and the Dems win easy. Republicans.....you actually have the chance to do something that is both right and will appeal to a minority in this country. Why not take a chance and actually do something?
  4. It's just funny and frustrating at the same time that it's do obvious what they do with scheduling but the media doesn't care when thru talk about how amazingly dominant they are.
  5. my son and I love all kinds of hunting. However, we don't have access to a place with water to build a permanent blind. So, I was thinking of building one on a small trailer that I could take yo various interstate lakes or ponds. Anyone ever done that? Or have suggestions?
  6. Good god man. Is it one of those trailer mounted rigs? I start checking pork at 195 but I usually pull it out right at 200 degrees. That might just be my thermometer being off . . . Yes, it's a trailer. All the experts say to take it to 190. I always still find some roasts that don't pull at that so I try to get to 195. I'm fine with going to 200 too. Always use a digital thermometer. Colo.... Yes, I designed it and various friends who know how to weld have helped out. If I were to do it again, I would have built it differently but I know it well enough that I can cook a lot of good food on it. My dream is to own one of these. http://langbbqsmokers.com/
  7. LOL..... So, the public is outraged and demand laws be put in place protecting against age discrimination in the private work place....but, now it's ok to discriminate against age in public office. Priceless.
  8. Don't get your panties all bunched up. Just shocked you of all people have gotten to this point. Pretty well signals to me that this is no longer a slit camp with a relative even number of supporters and detractors with a batch of people in the middle that just shrug their shoulders. If you're flipped, then that group of supporters has got to be fairly limited at this point. Is 2 wins going to flip you back or has the ship sailed for you? My attitude has not been the same for well over a year even though I choose to not constantly bitch about everything and not see some good things happening. Last year after the "F U" tape came out, I didn't care if he was gone. I would have supported either way. He wasn't fired so I supported the decision and got excited about the season and have enjoyed up till now. I have seen now that he hasn't learned a damn thing about being a leader. THEN....we have players still that have a "program against the fans" attitude. Gee. That's unacceptable.
  9. Your point? Sorry if I've had a positive attitude towards the program.
  10. Ahhhhh....BBQ. I love it and I have fun finding knew stuff to cook and new ways of doing it. I have a gas grill for grilling stuff like steaks or burgers when i want something done quick. I have made a barrel smoker where I can used charcoal to grill steaks or I can go low and slow to do something like ribs. Then, I have a cooker that...let's say....is a little over board for most people. I can fit 200-300 lbs of meat on it and I have had it packed full for certain events. Usually, I use it to cook anywhere from 50 - 200 lbs of something like pulled pork. I'll put the butts on around 5:30 - 6:00 am. pour the smoke to it around 225 - 250 degrees. Then, around noon I will wrap it in aluminum foil and keep cooking it till 3:00 - 4:00pm. You know it's done when a digital thermometer reaches 195 degrees. Or, when you can pull the bone out clean. Brisket....Burnt ends are the way to go. Much easier and everyone loves them. Ribs....I have about 10 different ways of doing them and it changes every time I cook. I am going to try venison ribs this year. Should be interesting.
  11. I have not posted on this board since before the game on Saturday. Honestly, I lost interest in Husker football around halftime of that game. I honestly, cut deer hunting short that day (opening day) with my son so I could come home and watch that abortion of a game. I finally just told my son we are going to town and eating supper out. Unfortunately, the restaurant had the game on and honestly, I was pissed that it was on. I am OK with losing. I am OK with people making mistakes because everyone is human. It is sports and that is what makes it exciting. Here is why I lost interest and why I'm finally positing this here. I have always been the most optimistic Husker fan there is. I am not one who thinks they constantly always have to find things to bitch about. And...quite frankly, I can't stand being around fans that are like that. I was very excited before this season because I honestly believe (still do) that we have the talent on this team to compete with anyone. That doesn't mean win. I mean compete. I believed (wrongfully so) that Bo had turned the corner with is attitude and personal coaching ability. I believed he always knew defense and he good players for his system to be successful and I believed this year, we had those players. Here is where I fell of the band wagon. This team came out on fire Saturday. They were flying to the ball. The offense had points on the board. We were playing crisp and the players were jacked up to make things happen. We were doing it in THEIR house. What was the problem???? Every game that has ever been played, something happens to the team on the field that just doesn't go right. A player misses a play. A player causes a stupid penalty. The coordinator calls the wrong play for a certain down. Those things happen on every team in every game. Problem????? When that happened on Saturday night, who was the one that melted down on the side lines? It wasn't the player who messed up. It wasn't the coordinators. It wasn't the water boy. It wasn't a position coach......It was the friggen HEAD coach. He was not a leader. He absolutely lost the ability to lead the team because he mentally melted down. In any big organization no matter if it's a large company, government or a sports team, the person at the top needs to be the calming presence when it seems like the world is crashing down. Bo has totally failed at that. Now, looking at your post and thinking about next year???? I have no idea how I can be excited because I have no reason to believe that Bo can be that leader in that situation NEXT year if we are able to get in a spot to actually win something significant. We have the players to play with anyone. We need a coach that can be a leader to get them there. I will guarantee you I will not be watching this Saturday. I'm not going to pass up another great afternoon with my son in the hills to watch what is supposed to be a mature professional melt down mentally when the going gets tough. It's basketball season.
  12. Ummm....he's not the one that missed his block not that play. That defender came from the right side and sacked Armstrong.
  13. What position group has he ever coached that lacked in doing what they are supposed to do?
  14. Here is my personal feelings one what is happening here. Most in Washington don't want to make these changes because they know (even though it stomps on our privacy and what the government should be doing) it allows the government to monitor the publics actions for threats against the US. So....when ever pressed in an election or in a press conference, the all will talk about how concerned they are about our freedoms and our privacy, but, in the end, they don't want to stop what the NSA is doing.
  15. Ahhhh....but they are soon dominant that they should actually be playing in the NFL.
  16. Deciding when to send our kids was interesting. Our first was born towards the end of the summer so we held her out. The second one was born in the middle of the summer. They were two years apart age wise so we held her out too just to keep it consistent. Our son came along and was three years age wise behind the his older sister. He was born a little earlier in the summer and so we actually sent him when he was 5. They are all two years apart in school. My two daughters, have gone through school easily. They have 4.0s all through HS and my oldest has started college and is doing very well. My son is a freshman. He gets all As but just every once in a while will get a B. He has to study harder than his older sisters. At the beginning, he was similar to your second twin where he just wasn't reading very well. He was in all the special reading groups to try to get him to improve. Over time, he has improved and he has no problem now with reading. Here is the issue though that I am concerned about when he gets closer to his senior year. He is HORRIBLE at taking standardized tests when it comes to the reading and language usage parts. He does pretty good in math and science. I expect he will end up with somewhere around a 3.8 or 3.9 GPA when he is all done. But, I suspect his ACT tests will not be impressive at all. Something my wife and I laugh about though. He is 6'5" now. If we had held him back, he would have been 6'5" in 8th grade. Probably would have done OK in middle school basketball...LOL.
  17. This is going to be interesting. LINK What I find interesting is that one argument I remember hearing against Common Core is that the teachers will only teach up to the test level. Well, this article makes it sounds like that would be an improvement for one heck of a lot of teachers.
  18. With what he makes his attitude is pathetic. Dump him.
  19. FYI..... Who ever did the casting for the newest Viagra commercials deserves what they were paid.
  20. The party out of the white house has proven over the last number of Presidencies that they will always try to tie scandals to the President. If we haven't learned that yet then I don't know what to say.
  21. Interesting question. Sean Callahan retweeted CFB Nation ‏@UofCFB 18h18 hours ago Which RB will run for more yards in #NEBvsWIS? RT for Ameer Abdullah FAV for Melvin Gordon
  22. Putting this out this time of year is even more ridiculous as the bowl projections that come out before the football season starts.
  23. It was discussed in the Obamacare/ACA thread.
  24. Pure coach speak. Absolutely not true. AA was limited by being featured in a Tim Beck offense. I hope this is completely in jest, because it's not like Ameer gets over 200 yards rushing in one of out of every two games or anything Sadly, I don't think their comment was in jest.
  25. Yes, but if he looks at the depth chart, Tenn. has a 5* freshman. That could keep him here!Yeah but as we have seen in the past, if an entitled 5 star doesn't get their playing time, they will find somewhere they will. But, that's obviously because the coaching staff does horrible roster management or all those 5 star players would be perfectly happy and always stay where they are. If a 5 star player doesn't get the playing time they think they deserve and they leave, you must understand as a Husker fan, it's always the coach's fault.
