  1. They were fairly desperate to finally get all the tickets in East Stadium sold, so there isn't exactly the extensive waiting list you alluded to. I know for a fact as of August 10, the ticket office and athletic department were making calls to people trying to get rid of east stadium for a very small donation level. Also, did you notice the mysterious visitors section in the new East Stadium that was not initially planned? Couple with the fact that the visitor's sections elsewhere in the stadium rarely are completely filled, I think it's reasonable to infer that they couldn't even sell all of the new seats in the upper East Stadium and made a random visitors section by default not to threaten the so-called "sell out streak."

  3. What's the word? I saw two weeks ago on a teaser from 247 that he was in Waco for a Baylor game. Is there anything to that, Thanks_Tom RR? FIFY. First post with my new handle. He went to the Baylor game with some friends. It was not an official, just a high school kid going to a football game with friends. He was tweeting from the game and mentioned he was a Husker commit. Nebraska coaches were aware of the visit ahead of time. Also, he has been working on Colorado commit and teammate Chance Waz. Waz will now be joining Mosley on an official for the Michigan St game. I would agree with Mavric that we should not get complacent with Mosley because of the in-state interest by Baylor, but I have not read anything to suggest he is opening his recruiting again. Yeah, I have seen him tweet during the games and other recruits and has always seemed to be pretty committed to us. I just wasn't sure with that trip to Waco as I am not a member at 247. Thanks!
  4. You didn't hear? Bo didn't let him make the trip!

  6. I also have verizon and can hardly text or check twitter during the game. Usually by the 4th quarter when 2/3 of the stadium is empty, it works better. but the first half I almost can never get on
  7. Santos is a bit hesitant. When he does fill the hole he takes on the OL. Instead of avoiding them, he goes straight for them. Rose is more elusive and harder to block, so Santos is always chasing while Rose is pursuing. Rose reminded me of David yesterday. Hard to block because he gets skinny through holes and avoids blocks. Rose should be our MLB right now. He must have pre snap trouble getting everyone lined up. Only reason Santos is playing IMO. Banderas is a little slow and a bit over his head at the moment, but will be awesome in the future. We really have some talent. Want nothing more than Bo to be around to see them flourish. This is going to be a hell of a defense in a year or so, pretty good by the end of the year. I, too, think they should try to work in Mike Rose at MIKE rather than Rose. It is undoubtedly his natural position and a place where the staff wants him. Also, once Zaire gets healthy, I think having Rose and Zaire is better than Zaire (or Rose) and Santos.
  8. I have never seen a game from those myself but have heard it's difficult to see the game over the players on the sidelines. I believe the first 6 rows are pretty difficult to see game action but you get a good view of the players on the sidelines!
  9. Under NCAA rules and the like, would the person in this position be allowed to actively recruit and/or contact recruits or is this simply a behind the scenes/admin role who coordinates and organizes the strategy?
  10. Damon Benning has stated things such as "He needs to get his act together in the class room and start showing up for practice." That was a direct quote from his show in the pre-season. He has academic issues and other issues alike.
  11. You do realize he's basically playing outside linebacker at 270 lbs., right? And he doesn't project to a linebacker, he's basically playing OLB in their defense but will be on the line for us. Synopsis of his defensive plays in order: 1. Pushes over a 130 pound RB, gets sack. 2. Untouched, sack 3. Finally touched by 180 pound OT, doesn't beat his man but QB runs into him b/c pressure from other side 4. Kind of touched, misses sack 5. Untouched, sack 6. Kind of touched by 5'4", 140 pound RB, sack 7. Untouched, sack 8. Untouched, sack 9. Untouched, sack 10. Untouched, tackle 11. Touched by 180 pound OT, quick pass, no chance to make a play 12. Touched, QB rolls to the other side, no chance to make a play 13. Touched, QB rolls his way, gets a QB hurry 14. Untouched, made a good play here, gets a QB hurry 15. Kind of touched, gets QB hurry 16. Kind of touched, gets QB hurry 17. Untouched, gets QB hurry 18. Touched, doesn't make a play of any kind, just overruns the pocket 19. Touched, gets QB hurry Those are the first 5 minutes. Anytime he was even touched, literally someone brushed jerseys with him, he almost never got a sack. 90% of his sacks are when no people even attempted to guard him or get in his way. The heaviest lineman he saw was maybe 240 pounds, and the average lineman was maybe 200 pounds. I'm not playing the whole bad competition card to say he isn't good. Maliek Collins played against bad competition, but he was 300 pounds and was the fastest player on the field. He was chasing down running backs and throwing O-lineman across the field. He would take on double, triple teams, brush them aside, and go make a tackle. You could tell he was the best athlete on the field because he was. Newell looks different (in a good way) than the kids he was playing with, he just doesn't look like M. Collins did where it was so obvious. I'm not tearing the kid down, I think he is a really solid player and could become a contributor in time, but if he is our headliner commit than I would be pretty disappointed with the top half of this class. If he ends up being the 5-7 best commit, then that would be a really solid class. The thing about Peyton Newell that you can't teach is his size. The reason that he got 30 D1 offers is because of that size and his work ethic. A lot of big kids don't have the work ethic he has and you can't teach work ethic or size. I know. I don't dislike Newell or think he is someone we don't want on our team, I'm just not in LOVE with the kid. I think he is a solid piece to the class and I think there will be a high learning curve coming to college when he has capable blockers in front of him - something he will not be used to from his experience in high school.
  12. Why don't you address my post and tell me how I'm wrong or what doesn't make sense? And unless I made a typo that I'm not seeing, no it's not contradictory. I'm saying everyone wants more money, whether it be me asking for a raise at my job or Jay Z doing something he is passionate about and people willing to pay him. You want him to just go around the country and sing for free when people are willing to pay him millions of dollars for it? What is the problem with that? And again: 1. recruits are huge fans of him 2. nebraska has a "hick town" perception problem 3. having him come here allows recruits to see him in concert 4. it helps alleviate the perception problem we have How is this a problem? This is a 110% positive for the program and promoting it to recruits.
  13. What because he wants to make money? How is it different than any corporate executive being greedy and wanting more in bonuses? I don't know many people who don't desire to have more money in life; if anything Jay-Z should be lauded because he has been successful at it. And you act like him coming to a concert in Lincoln means he is going to meet up with every recruit in a sketchy room for 15 minutes so he can discuss his personal morals which you portray to be so horrible. The fact is that 95% of our 2-deep and about every single recruit coming in for an OV that weekend has 5-50 Jay-Z songs on their iPod they listen to everyday. When every recruit outside the Midwest has the perception Lincoln is literally a cornfield with a football stadium planted in middle of it, why is it so bad to promote and say "look, you know that ultra-success guy who produces music you listen to everyday that you really enjoy, he is coming to town. We are not just a cornfield, one of the biggest stars in entertainment is coming to Lincoln, within a walking distance of where you live"

  15. You do realize he's basically playing outside linebacker at 270 lbs., right? And he doesn't project to a linebacker, he's basically playing OLB in their defense but will be on the line for us. You do realize in each of my last two posts I have mentioned that it is harder to project because he is playing OLB in the film, correct? I posted this an hour ago, like 4 posts up. So yes, I do realize this.
  16. I don't know, it just doesn't look that impressive to me. He doesn't look explosive in the least. He looked good in the camps, strong first step, but in the game against extremely inferior competition, he doesn't jump off the page as an athlete. Again, it's hard to project a stand-up DE to a linebacker. I admittedly only watched the first 5 minutes of the highlight film, but the first 16 tackles he made, he was COMPLETELY untouched. It's not like he was throwing OT out of the way and chasing players down. There are like 2 total plays where the first offensive player he touches is not the ball carrier. What happens when he comes to college and actually has people in front of him, it's going to be a new world and a steep learning curve. I don't think he is a bad player, by any means, but I don't think he should be the "headliner" guy in a solid recruiting class, he is a middle-of-the-pack guy IMO.
  17. I think he has a tremendously bland highlight film. He doesn't look explosive against pretty poor competition. One thing to keep in mind is that he is essentially a DT playing OLB, so remember that when judging his athleticism and playmaking ability
  18. TA threw off his back foot and broadcasted his throws. RKIII did not. TA had too much loft in his throws as well...RKIII did not. You realize QB's can purposely put air under the ball? I think undoubtedly Tommy has a much stronger arm than RK. What throws are you referring to that had too much loft on the ball? You mean the dime he threw with a flick of his wrist that laid in Kenny's bread basket that he dropped? Or the exact same throw he threw into a steady wind that was maybe 18 inches short. There can be loft on a ball if thrown ahead of the receiver, which he did, it inhibits the DB's ability to get to the ball, something RK doesn't have the ability to do because he doesn't have the arm strength. Just don't compare an out route thrown to the side of the field thrown landing perfectly in the arms of Quincy, to RK running up the pocket, crow hopping and throwing it as hard as he can to a receiver 12 yards away. The prior requires much more arm strength even if it doesn't look as impressive.

  20. It's reasonable to feel how you feel. But Ohio State and Florida are better jobs than NU. At least he is going after better jobs that will further him in his career than just trying to get the eff out and going to Kentucky or Washington State. Ohio State and Florida are only better jobs because of their recent success. Our facilities are just as nice or better and we can afford to pay just as much to a head coach as they can. If a highly talented coach came to Nebraska and built a champion team, then some of those other so called better jobs will be less appealing than coaching at Nebraska. That's what I'm looking for in a coach. If he wants to leave after doing that, so be it, there will be plenty of other coaches like Bo Pelini begging to come here. That would be a two steps forward and one back approach. The impression I get, however, is that if Pelini could have just enough success here to get a "better" job offer, then he's gone. That's a one step forward and two back approach in which I have no interest. Yes, any coach has recruiting challenges here at Nebraska. I grew up in Nebraska but live in Chicago now, so I understand that. But there are lots of highly successful teams that aren't glamorous in terms of geography. For instance, I'd much rather live in Lincoln, Nebraska than Baton Rouge, LA, or Norman, OK. Recent success is all that matters. Do recruits want to go to Minnesota because they dominated college football in the 1940's? The kids we are recruiting were born in 1996. But they are not cognizant of the world until they are maybe 5. So lets define "recent" success as when current recruits could spell their name and tie their shoes. Nebraska: 0 MNC, 0 conference championships Florida: 2 MNC, 2 conference champtionships Ohio State: 1 MNC, 6 conference championships That doesn't include recruiting hotbeds that both OSU and UF are in, we are not. Not to say a coach can't recruit to Nebraska, but it's 100 times more difficult than at OSU or UF. You mention salaries. Muschamp makes basically the same as Bo, but UF assistants make nearly $1 million more than NU assistants. At Ohio State, Urban makes $1 million more than Bo and their assistant coaches earn about $1.2 million more than ours. So they spend over $2 million more on their coaches than us. So whether we can afford it or not, we don't pay our staff even close to what OSU do, and significantly less than UF. Facilities, all are extremely impressive and in the top 15 in the country. In this comparison we are probably 2nd to OSU, with Florida behind us. Either way, I think Nebraska is a really good job and in the top 20, but I think UF and OSU are in the top 3 or 4 of best jobs out there and I can see why a coach would have desire to coach at one of them.
  21. It's reasonable to feel how you feel. But Ohio State and Florida are better jobs than NU. At least he is going after better jobs that will further him in his career than just trying to get the eff out and going to Kentucky or Washington State.
  22. Hold the phone. I am not going to get excited about the prospects of seeing another QB until it's announced that will happen. As far as upside, I can't imaging R K III outdoing Tommy in the wow factor. If RK III comes in and plays exclusively while game managing us to an ugly victory, I won't be too excited about that. I'll take it of course, but blah it just sets the stage for more mediocrity. I tend to be an eternal optimist about NU football, but right now my optimism rides squarely on the shoulder of BP's decision and hopefully Tommy A's shoulders (and feet and arm for that matter). I hope BP chooses well, his job may actually be on the line here. The way I understood on Big Red Wrap Up tonight, T-Mart will be sitting out this game. I could have misunderstood though. The decision has not been made yet, so I honestly think you misunderstood.
  23. Best thing Bo could do would be to sit down in front of a camera and speak openly and honestly to the fans. Apologize off the cuff, show sincerity, and tell them he's going to work hard to show that statement was then, and he's changed now. And then back that up with clear evidence of change over the next several months. I can see him doing this, but me? I dont need him too. I have a brain and perspective. I understand that this was two years ago and can obviously see that he's changed a sh#t-ton for the better since then. This would be a much more serious situation if it had been released at that time, but think that beins now, a lot of folks are like "what the f?" I would just like to see the AD put some energy into trying to bust the dirty bastard that released it, though I know that probably that won't happen. I just think a lot of folks are forgetting when this happened and the stressful chain of events surrounding that time. I was mad at Bo at first yesterday afternoon. I'm not anymore. I'm just not. I just cant be. This whole thing is just silly. Nothing more, nothing less. I'm pretty sure AD SE is putting energy into who leaked this. This was a direct attack on Bo and really the program as a whole. The recording was taped on a mic worn by a university/athletic office employee and then was most likely uploaded to a computer in the athletic office. The person who released this tape had access to that computer which means the person who released the tape is likely sitting in North Stadium right now. Or at the very least the person who gave the tape to the "leaker" is sitting in North Stadium right now.
  24. Yes, Greg was in the room, that is who Bo was openly talking to. Then they start the show and record it. It's placed on a computer and then anyone who has access to that computer has access to the audio clip.
