  1. I wonder if the presiding judge will be the judge from the original "Miracle on 34th Street"?
  2. In 1980, the 3rd party candidate, Sen Anderson a Republican, had little affect on the Reagan steamroller. In 1992 the 3rd party candidate, Ross Perot, basically assured the election of Bill Clinton - that and GHWB's inept campaign. Is there a chance of a 3rd party candidate in 2016? Here are the opportunities as I see it 1. The repubs nominate an establishment candidate like Jeb Bush. Tea Party revolts and push Cruz or Paul type or another to run as a 3rd party. 2. The dems nominate Hillary. The far left, convinced she is in the fold of the bankers and the military complex, push Warren or Sanders or another to run as 3rd party. Other possible 3rd party candidates who might present themselves as an alternative to a Bush/Clinton race: Former NYC Mayor Bloomberg - takes votes from Dems Trump - takes votes from Repubs A mixed 'moderate' ticket of a Dem (Webb type) and a repub (John Huntsman type) with the purpose of ending gridlock NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio - seems like he things pretty highly of himself according to this article: http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/Bill-de-Blasio-special-Bloomberg-Giuliani/2015/05/06/id/643087/ Other possibilities?? I don't think any announced repub candidate will run 3rd party as I think they will be dead set on not allowing Hillary to be elected. If the Tea Party pushes a 3rd candidate, I think it will be one of the other firebrands in Congress.
  3. He's reputation here at NU was that of a hard worker who grew with experience. Of course, if I recall, he missed time at NU with injuries as well. The Pats, who I believe saw him as a rising star, may have seen the writing on the wall- projecting injury problems throughout his career. Not something you can build with. Come on Vikings - take a chance on him.
  4. Looks like we have a clue now on the type of QB MR wants. 1st QB recruit has committed. Pass first, run second - mobile QB. We pulled him out of Sooner land. He is 6'3'' and just shy of 200. He had great stats as a jr. http://www.omaha.com/huskers/oklahoma-prep-quarterback-terry-wilson-ends-wait-commits-to-huskers/article_b5c08c1e-bee2-5a7a-a2ec-03d79f747645.html
  5. Watching this video makes me think of how boring our O had become under Bo. Scott Frost - the running QB- showed off his passing skills on the 1st TD drive. The announcers several times how difficult it was to defend our O - so many formations, so many options, etc The thing that set those teams apart was that they controlled the LOS as others had mentioned. Well technically our offense under Bo was under Shawn Watson and Tim Beck, who operated a pretty exciting offense using lots of different options and formations, but usually got hell for it when it didn't work, which sometimes happened with our inferior offensive line, ball handling issues, and a historically weak defense that didn't allow us to be patient. Very true, you are watching a well oiled machine against Tennessee in 1998. I don't remember anyone saying TO offense looked so great when it was getting shut down by Miami in 1989 or when they get their ass handed to them by GT in the Citrus Bowl. Same basic offense different players. Basically, not all about the "Xs and Os" but the Jim and Joes - need good players to execute a good plan.
  6. Knapp, I would think the taco would be transformed into a taco salad I haven't caught food just a T-Shirt shot through a similar gun. Now if they could shoot a Runza - now that is worth risking a fall down the steps to grab.
  7. In some ways this is surprising to me but then again injuries makes one expendable. I still think he has all of the tools to be a great DB in the NFL and I hope he lands on a team where his skills can shine. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000491067/article/new-england-patriots-to-release-alfonzo-dennard Here is the article: After tumbling down the New England Patriots' stacked depth chart last season before landing on injured reserve, the writing was on the wall for cornerback Alfonzo Dennard. The Patriots are releasing Dennard after three seasons with the team, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday. Dennard, a seventh-round pick back in 2012, appeared in 29 games for the Patriots, a run that included five picks and 86 tackles. Patriots coach Bill Belichick drafted a safety and cornerback over the weekend, which likely made the injured cornerback expendable. Before some legal troubles, Dennard was looked at by some as a late first- or early second-round pick. At almost 6 feet and 205 pounds, he's certainly physical enough to warrant a look from some other teams out there. As evidenced by the draft, good cornerback help is hard to come by.

  9. I think AA. He has the shown the character and work ethic and drive to succeed at NU. Remember, he was recruited with 2 other higher rated backs and and worked hard to insert himself as the back up for T-Rex and then the eventual starter. I think in the Detroit O he will do well - catching passes in space and turning it on. He doesn't have to be a every down back (taking all of those hits) to be successful. If he can find a spot in punt returns, kick off returns and as a pass catcher - he'll have a long career. Gregory - I'm not sure he has the same drive. He has other demons he is dealing with. I hope he overcomes those and that Dallas can become a good place for him to do so. I wish him well.
  10. Dallas - 2 guys linked to ISIS shot dead. One being home grown. Closer than we think. http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2015/05/alleged-shooter-elton-simpson-in-terror-attack-in-garland-texas-a-muslim-convert/
  11. Funny cartoon. I think that fart one is really important. If we can get cow farts (some say the methane from all the cows contribute to global warming) to be peppermint, maybe we could capture the scent, sell it as room deodorizers and use the money to combat global warming.
  12. Fiorina is in. I think she is really running for VP - the be the 1st female VP and that will be the alternative to Hillary. She can attack Hillary at will and leave the top of the ticket to be 'positive'. While Rubio isn't my first choice (Walker is right now), I an see the Repubs going wt a Rubio/Fiorina ticket to get the minority vote and the female vote. I prefer a governor at the head of the ticket however.
  13. Agree, perhaps in a few years, battery development costs will come down much more, batteries become less expensive, more efficient and enlarged capacities for storage, - this could be a viable alternative to being on the grid. If this could occur on a mass scale in homes, just think of the impact on the economy but also it will be key in the discussion of global warming, climate change or whatever the next verbiage they give to 'hot planet'.
  14. You know I had an alternative to hamsters as a kid. I, my sis and brother would get on the back of our buck sheep and I'd sit just behind his head & I'd hold a branch full of leaves just in front of him. That was a perpetual motion machine that wouldn't stop as he could never get to those leaves. Now if I could mount that branch on a harness and put him on a treadmill type of machine that created electricity - wala - perpetual energy. On a side note this might be more realistic Tesla has announced a home battery/solar system that could do the job of any generator. Per the article a German company had a similar announcement earlier in the day. http://www.computerworld.com/article/2917479/sustainable-it/tesla-announces-gigawatt-scaling-commercial-battery-and-a-home-battery-system-for-3500.html
  15. Maybe being toooo honest hurt him in the eyes of those coaches and GMs & they couldn't separate the past from the future. Regardless, I hope he has set himself on the right path and plays with abandon and proves to be an all star. Come on Vikings - take a chance on him.
  16. I thought that was a question for presidential candidates only - Bill Clinton answered this already. (fruit of the loom briefs - try to buy made in USA)
  17. Has anyone found a good solar generator that can at least run the refrig and a few items in case of power outage (or in our modern world - mass riots!!)? If not solar, what other recommendations might you tried and found to be workable solution for an outage due to weather or other emergency? Thanks
  18. Yes, I agree Knapp. Even here is Tulsa we have a controversy brewing. A 72 year old 'reserve' sheriff is being charged in the death of run away criminal (in this case he was a criminal - caught selling illegal stuff) he ran right towards the reserve cop. The cop thought he pulled out his tazer but pulled out the gun instead and bang. On top of that another cop got on top of the guy and held his head down with his knee (2nd cop didn't know he was shot). He is being looked at for using excessive force. Cop # 1 - the shooting may very well end up being judged as an accident. However the plot thickens with evidence of record tamping on his prior training and favoritism towards him because of his many donations to the dept (he's a wealthy local insurance agent wanting to play cop) and his friendship wt the county sheriff. As BRB said, you'd think the cops would understand that they are under a microscope after Fergeson and so many other similar cases. It seems we are starting to get that 1967-68 feeling again - riots are easily ignited by these issues.
  19. ISIS leader may be dead - Let's hope this report is true and we get the next in line, and the next in line, etc. http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/Abu-Bakr-al-Baghdadi-US-airstrike-Mosul/2015/05/01/id/642015/
  20. NU I think is 3 seasons away unless Darlington becomes QB sooner. For all of TA's good points in leadership, work ethic, he just doesn't seem to have the 'it' factor we need at QB. I say 3 seasons for MR to get his type of QB here. While we will lose VV and Collins by then, the Davis Twins will be ready to step in. If we see vast improvement at QB in season 2 (JR College or 5th year senior transfer, or improved Darlington, or a hot shot freshman or red-shirt fresh - think FSU or Texas A&M) and VV, Collins and Gerry are still on D - then I think we can look at challenging OSU in the conf game. OSU is better primarily because of QB play. I'm not saying they don't have overall more talent but we have enough good talent on the starting 22 to compete with them. DPE will be a game changer who can equalize the talent situation.
  21. If Gangwich's play can match his motivation, plus we have VV and Collins in the middle, we might have a 1997 type or 1995 type defensive line in the making.
  22. Guys, I wanted to get your take on this article based on a Duke Univ research project. it seems like a mixed bag to me. I think it is telling us - big picture the earth is warming, however current picture not as fast as the computer models suggest - those models may be incorrect. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-3052926/Our-climate-models-WRONG-Global-warming-slowed-recent-changes-natural-variability-says-study.html The first paragraph and a couple more are below and give somewhat of a summary and a presentation of the mixed bag. Global warming hasn't happened as fast as expected, according to a new study based on 1,000 years of temperature records. The research claims that natural variability in surface temperatures over the course of a decade can account for increases and dips in warming rates. But it adds that these so-called 'climate wiggles' could also, in the future, cause our planet to warm up much faster than anticipated. The team examined whether climate models, such as those used by the IPCC, accurately account for natural chaotic variability that can occur in the rate of global warming. To test these, created a new statistical model based on reconstructed empirical records of surface temperatures over the last 1,000 years. 'By comparing our model against theirs, we found that climate models largely get the 'big picture' right but seem to underestimate the magnitude of natural decade-to-decade climate wiggles,' Brown said. 'Our model shows these wiggles can be big enough that they could have accounted for a reasonable portion of the accelerated warming we experienced from 1975 to 2000, as well as the reduced rate in warming that occurred from 2002 to 2013.' 23. Hard to follow Landlord's story. Tops. Mine wasn't a specific date but a several day event. My girlfriend at the time moved from our town (in eastern SD) to spend the summer with friends in Montana. At the end of the summer I drove 19 hours straight to 'bring her home" - arriving at 2 am or so. The next morning we get up to go to Yellowstone. We see the Yellowstone falls and then drive a few miles and my water pump goes out. We make it to the gas station and while siting in the trees, watching a moose come out of the woods, and waiting on my car - she says those famous words no one likes to hear: "I think we are getting too serious." Talk about deflating - drive 19 hours, broken down car, 2 hours from her friends, and then you hear those words. Luckily, when we made it back to eastern SD, and I made her a dinner of my not-so famous but good fried chicken, we started to click again. She's now been my wife of 36 years.
