  1. This website ranks Bo as the 7th best coach in the Big 10. Again they mention his negative public outbursts - not to be confused with that Rutger's BB coach however. I don't know what to think. Based on what Bo has accomplished or not accomplished we could look at this as half full or half empty. As the article notes, Bo has won the magical 9 games a year (however I think 11 is the new 9) and has been in a CCG 3 of his 5 years - which is good. But the article alludes to the fact that Bo has the resources available to him at Nebraska that other coaches would drool over - yet we still loose 4 games a year. The paragraph on Bo ends wt the question - "but is Pelini treading water at 9-4 each season or was 2012 a glimpse of more to come?" Good question. I don't know what to expect anymore from Bo's teams for the season and sometime from game to game or half to half within a game. Personally, I'm disappointed that NU would have a coach ranked this low in any conference - our tradition & fans deserve better. Granted it is one website's opinion - but the persception cannot be ignored. My hope is that Bo turns it around this year and thereby move up in this type of ranking. http://www.athlonspo...ll-coaches-2013
  2. This guy is going to have a Woody Hays moment no doubt.
  3. What you talkin bout Willis? True, but I was thinking more along the lines of a conference championship or BCS trophy. Bingo - my point in the 4th post.
  4. I think we've discussed the value of 9 wins season in todays world not matching 9 win seasons when Tom started to coach. 11 wins is the new 9. 9 wins now = 3 or 4 games on the wrong side of the ledger.
  5. The difference between us and those ahead of us - they all have won hardware - even okie state. That is why it feels worse than what it is. Hopefully this year
  6. So how do we sabatoge Michigan to get there 2nd - not 1st? Any chance Mich could tank like many have over a exteneded period? I guess if they end up with PSU like sanctions. Probably too big of a lead for any of the other schools to catch them even if they tanked. Just me thinking out loud
  7. True about the ND easier conference - I see that as the only way they beat us. Maybe a good reason they have stiffed the Big 10. I'd love to see them in the Big 10.
  8. I think we have a very good chance to get there 2nd, if Bo can figure how to not lose 4 games a year -otherwise OSU could over take us in that period. Assumption: if Bo keeps losing 4 games a year and doesn't get any hardware - we'd also go through a coaching change again. That could allow OSU to pass us up - assumption # 2: Meyer stays at OSU and the programs remains strong.. But, my hope is, that Bo gets it done, no coaching change, and we ave 1-2 losses max per year - with a perfect season or 2 thrown in there and a 3 loss season mixed in. Texas - going wrong direction - Brown is done there soon. OU - Big Game Bob has turned into Medium Game Bob - they are getting flat like we did under Solich. ND - one emotional year with dead girlfriends that didn't exist won't last. They will be one and done and then settle back to average. Bama - they can't make it up unless we tank big time and they start winning championships with undefeated seasons.
  9. I think we are the first wt 2 back to back championships in a 25 year period.
  10. Good observation. When the B12 was formed, OU was down, OSU was the old OSU, & only A&M had any consistency amount the texas teams (except ut coming out of nowhere to beat us in the 1st cccg). NU, KSU, Co & were the powers of the conference & Mo was somehat competitive.
  11. i will have to agree wt someone above who said that more blowouts and a 10-4, 9-4 record may make this Bo's last year hear. Even without the blowouts, I think the fan base is getting restless and Bo needs to produce some hardware within the next 3 years max. This year and next (I don't think we fall off much wtout TM) we will have an explosive O, and if the D talent is as good as Bo advertises (again - I won't believe until I see it on the field) than we should win the CCG and a significant bowl wiithin the next 2 years. If we have talent on both sides of the ball and still end up wt a 4 loss season - then it is the coach. Can't blame the players not executing forever. I was a huge Bo fan when he came but these 4 loss seasons are becoming weary. As Dirk said recently, He's not good enough to get us the championships but not bad enough to be fired (paraprhase) - I do hope he is able to make it all happen this year - I don't want to go through another coach search.
  12. I agree with all, except this part. Martinez has/helped put up enough points to win every game we had last year, and he has came back to win the ones we were trailing. Last year, Martinez proved he was a winner, and he was never going to quit until game clock was expired. You can't blame Martinez for last years loss', even with the fumbles. 300+ Rushing yards allowed, is the blame. I can agree wt most of what you say - TM was a vast improvement over the previous year and his play alone would not have stopped the landslides against Wisc and OSU. However, fumbles in competitive games can and will hurt us this year if we don't get 'a better handle' on it. It is one thing to fumble when we have a big lead or when the opponent has a big lead - its an "Oh Well". But he needs to improve here as both a player and a leader. The O will need to be the leader again this year and we cannot afford to turn it over to an inexperience D. Perhaps I should say, TM was not able to overcome Bo's lack of adjustments and game planning on the big stage.
  13. While I wish I could be kool-aide optimistic, I cannot. Too much over promising and under delievering from the past. Let's put it this way, I won't believe the preseason press reports coming out of the coaches office until I see the product on the field against UCLA. No more kool-aide drinking. We will have an offense that can play with anyone but that can also go in reverse with penalties and turnovers. If we fix those areas we'll be very good on O and we'll give every D we face nightmares. On D -- who knows. We've been told before about individual ability and team speed, yada yada. After the points given up last year, I may have to go the full season to believe that Bo remembers how to coach D. We could have a team like the 83 team - the scoring explosion that scored enough to overcome the D's inadequacies except in the final game. This cannot be another 4 loss season with our easier schedule. But my gut says we'll do just enough to be better than last year but still have that empty feeling of not being over the top. 3 loss season - 1 regular season, CCG, Bowl Game. TM hasn't shown he can win on the biggest stage and nor has Bo. It wil be a matter of Bo being out coached and TM trying too hard to make up for it.
  14. While I think this is a temporary division split until we go to 16 teams, Why not keep MSU in our division and protect the MSU-Mich game instead of Ind/Pur. Read the article and then read this comment from a poster. He makes some good points UNL_Fan - 52 minutes ago This divisional alignment is absolute trash. I know that a lot of the local media is going to spin this as being a positive, because Nebraska will have an easier road to the conference championship game and the shorter travel distance for fans. That is flat out wrong. This is a very bad thing for Nebraska from almost any vantage point it is looked at from. Welcome back to the Big 12 north. The Big 12 north was a laughing stock within the conference and even nationally. How many times did Nebraska fans have to listen to ESPN analysts on national TV talk about how the Big 12 north was such a joke. How many times did they say things like "Nebraska will represent the north in the conference championship game, but there are really 3-4 teams (ie Oklahoma St, Oklahoma, Texas, even Texas Tech and Texas A&M some years) in the Big ...12 south better than the #1 team from the north." There is going to be a huge tv network bias / big ten bias / national media bias / fan bias towards the Eastern Division. What games would Nebraska play every year that can compete with Ohio St vs Michigan / Michigan vs Michigan St / Ohio St vs Michigan St / Penn St vs Michigan St / Penn St vs Ohio St / Penn St vs Michigan? Nebraska vs Wisconsin is the only one and that still isn't even on the same level as these other games. And that's only considering the Big Ten Network programming. There is no game vs a team in Nebraska's division that will mean anything in the national picture. All of the games I listed have more national appeal than any of Nebraska's divisional matchups. Literally no divisional game that Nebraska has will ever be a candidate for ESPN College Gameday. Maybe Wisconsin, but that will be few and far between, so there goes that recruiting opportunity. And which of Nebraska's divisional games will even be a candidate for a prime time national TV slot? None. Again, maybe Wisconsin, but not every year. This is flat out terrible for teams in the West Division when it comes to recruiting. The East division will be home to teams within the high population states of Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland, Indiana. The West Division will be home to teams within the states of Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Minnesota, (very very few high level prospects from each of those states). The only state within the Western Division with any significant amount high level talent is Illinois, which Ohio St and Michigan already have a leg up on the rest of the schools in the conference in Illinois. When Nebraska joined the Big Ten, all of the talk in support of the move was how Nebraska was going to be playing the "big boys" like Michigan, Ohio St, Penn St, Michigan St, but now Nebraska plays none of these teams on an annual basis and has zero divisional matchups that will draw national attention. Welcome back to the Big 12 north Nebraska. Welcome back being a second class citizen in the second class division. At least in the Big 12 north Nebraska had decades of history with the teams on their lack luster divisional schedule. Now in the Big Ten west, Nebraska has no history with these teams...they just have a lack luster divisional schedule that will be subject to mocking from all of the teams in the eastern division along with national media. And don't think this won't be a consistent point of discussion on ESPN to a national audience, because it will be. It’s clear that all it took was Michigan and Ohio St to say what they wanted in the divisional realignment and surprise…Jim Delany popped out of his magic lantern saying “Your wish is my command!”. And let's not forget that strength of schedule is said to be one of the factors for the selection committee when determining the new 4-team playoff... This divisional alignment is not good for Nebraska from almost any vantage point you look at it from. I could not be more disappointed that I am now with this alignment. Disappointed with the Big Ten conference. Disappointed with Jim Delany. Disappointed that Nebraska left the Big 12 for this. [x] CLOSE
  15. Maybe it is time to think of another football division. 64 teams from the Big 4 conferences which will all be 16 before too long - Big 10, Big 12, SEC and PAC12. The big conferences won't have to worry about keeping a level playing field for mid majors. Base a 8 team playoff with the 4 conf champions and the 4 hightest ranked teams remaining from the conferences or just a 4 team payoff of the conf champions. Interesting discussion on this link below - some suggestions that the Big 10 could go to 18 or even 20 schools (a bit too far :wastedIMHO ) http://www.tomahawknation.com/2013/2/22/4019522/realignment-rumor-mill-guest-star-edition
  16. Some would say the 71 Huskers may have given the 95 team a run for their money. Very good defense and Johnny Rogers and Kinney and Tagge on O. I saw, I believe an Sporting News poll from a few years back rainking that team # 3 overall behind 95 Team and one of the recent USC teams - I think the year before they lost to ut in the NCG.
  17. I agree totally. I wish we would just get to the main event and do it quickly.. expand to 16 where we know this is where all of this is heading. I wish we could add ND but they are too proud to go to the big 10. Otherwise I'd like to see FSU and GT or possibly VT. FSU and GT make the most sense when it comes to recruiting. I wonder if the Big 10 extends the Maryland travel deal to GT and FSU if they came into the conf. My other choice would be to get Kansas basketball in the conference - but we don't need another egg layer in the west football division. Recruit FSU and place them in our division so we can revenge every year the 1994 referee error prone Orange bowl - that should have given us 3 NC in a row (Ok, I'll go see the shrink now and lay down on the comfy sofa & get that game off my chest ).
  18. We all have our bias but I'd like to say that having viewed both 5 year periods, I would think any honest person, if he had to bet his life on it, would say NU was by far more dominant. Let's go back to the the Scott Frost speach after NU destroyed UTenn in 97 - to the coaches - what team would they rather play if their career depended on them winning - of course the coaches voted in response by saying they would rather not be playing NU instead of Michigan. An honest person looking at NU and Mich in 1997 would have to say - NU was the best - by far. I think the same gut check rule applies here. I can honestly believe that some other teams might have a greater overal tradition but in the same way, I don't think any team had a greater 5 year period then NU did and our record in the period between 1962-2001 is the greatest 40 year run in the history of the sport.
  19. Cool. I have a pic of my son and I in front of the statue. Now I know where it came from I just emailed the video link to my KSU friend here at work. I told him KSU and NU are memorialized in the statue together - i didn't tell him that KSU got the bottom side of the pile.
  20. Newby looks like a man wt 4th graders trying to tackle him. The best defender is the side line - even wt that he escapes several times. He'll be on this list if he is developed well at NU. I think Ron Brown can make him into a star.
  21. My exact feelings when I saw this thread. Suh throwing Colt like a rag doll. Goodness if we had half an offense that year we'd be talking NC.
  22. agree 100% and also wt the other post by Guy Chamberland that Green is a step behind. Rozier's 10 yard TD run that ended up being 50 yards or more from side line to side line against UCLA was a Heisman moment for sure.
  23. that is an amazing list of back to back to back, etc outstanding RBs. Man, how we didn't win 3 or 4 NC in that time period is amazing - I know we lost 3 by a a slight pass deflection, a crooked side line, and a hot clemson team.
  24. Can I have your old seat!! Ah, too far away here in Tulsa. But based on that picture - I'd switch pronto. Great view. Better field perspective. Only drawback I see is the bright west sun in your face - but in November - that would be a good thing.
