  1. I agree 100%. The last 2 weeks we have been running the ball, so keep on doing it. We had great field position in the first half and they were keying on Ameer, so why not play action on first down. By 3rd down, there ears were pinned back and they were coming. I agree as well with both of you...that has been my frustration/venting in other threads too. Beck's primary responsibility is to give the offensive players the arsenal they need to defeat their opponent on any given Saturday. Some Saturday's basic vanilla will work fine, but for a team like MSU, we needed to see more variations of the playbook that leveraged the strengths of our players. Also, regarding Tommy losing his composure, especially in the 2nd quarter, I would have taken him out for a drive or two and let him regroup and re-focus. I've seen it done many times at the collegiate level, and 9 times out of 10 the starter comes back in and gets the job done. Tommy certainly came alive late in the game, but we needed him to get back on point by the 2nd quarter. That decision to keep Tommy in would fall with Bo and not Beck. I don't think Tommy played that bad considering he was hit 20+ times. Cook who is averaging 70% was under 50% and we at times gave him all day to pass. Beck early playing calling needs to take some of the blame for Tommy's timing issues.

  3. The only reason we scored was due to a pass inference. I like Ryker, but his first 2 passes were horrendous.
  4. 2007: Frankie's last year - 245 yards per game. 2008 - 10: Bo & Sanders - from 232 to 154 yards per. 2011: Reynolds - 192. 2012 & 13: Joseph went from 168 to 215 yards per. 2014: Warren - 225. It seems Bo has picked coaches from the south for recruiting, because out best coach was local. Its too soon to judge Warren as he is still trying to fix the direction Joseph was taking us.
  5. You teach him to watch the receiver, if the receiver turns his head to look for the ball, so should you. This topic is pretty stupid, mostly because you are talking about a young secondary with few veterans, and even then, some of those vets aren't perfect. Some of you have blinders on, where you only see and point out the negatives and completely disregard the positives. It's incorrect to say that Pelini's secondary has never been taught to turn around and look for the ball. I guess all those corners and safeties, NFL or not were never taught to look for the ball by either Marvin Sanders, Terry Joseph, that one guy who came before Joseph. Nah, they were all scrub coaches that didn't teach that our secondary. I've seen our guys this year turn their heads and look for the ball. Are they consistent? no, far from it. But you know what, I bet half the secondaries in the NFL have their moments where they don't turn their heads and look for the ball. And you know what, those guys get called for pass interference. That's nice and all except Terry Joseph specifically said at a coaches clinic they don't teach them to look back. I don't remember this being an issue with Sanders, as we got plenty of guys in the NFL. It seems like it just started with Joseph.
  6. Kalu has not been playing corner. He has been playing in the nickle & dime, which is a speed LB on spread offenses. He was doing a better job than Rose, who is the backup corner.

  8. Well, to your point... we now have Boyd Eppley back in the athletic department in a full-time position. I was so relieved upon hearing this, because he should have an immediate impact on strength and conditioning I would think? If the football staff were smart anyway they would take any suggestions he has to heart! Not to, would be very dumb. Let's just hope certain people's ego's are set aside for what's best for the team. His job is not with football team. His job is to oversee the entire strength program, but not directly with football. I there are issues, he will be involved!
  9. That's exactly what I thought....but maybe they think any waving makes the defense stop going for the returner?? It was considered an invalid waive by official, which makes it a dead ball and can not be returned. The only way it becomes live is after a miss handling of ball before it hits the ground.
  10. We have! He is a great athlete, but does not know the playbook. He played in the 4th qtr. and was involved in the bunching of WR. It is only a matter of time.
  11. This is a typical Beck called game. He runs plays that worked last week. Fine and dandy, but when it does not work you need to have a plan B and not wait until the 4th qtr to open up the offense. We had the ball in Mich. St. territory most of the first half. What a better time to throw some play action to loosen up the defense so Ameer can run.
  12. Really, Line could not block and we were playing with 3rd & 4th string receivers who could not run routes. Did you watch the game? Tommy will be lucky to get out of bed this morning. This is the most heart I have seen out of a NE QB in a while.
  13. But like the McNeese St. game, when Bell got hurt Westercamp got doubled. Someone else needs to make plays.
  14. After last night's game, maybe Barney will change his mind!
  15. You're seizing on every bit of negative this has to offer and gnashing your teeth with bitterness. So we lost to a top 10 team on the road that we trailed in rank by 9 spots. We weren't expected to win and we kept it close. By this keeps happening, I'm not sure what exactly you mean. We're still in the drivers seat to get another shot. The next three games are more than winnable. Jimmy, there are a few who believe we are a playoff team. We might of have been, but with 7 starters gone and playing with 3rd & 4th string WR that will be tough.
  16. Someone needs to step up and make these catches, as Moore has dropped a couple of these passes this year. Bell will be missed next year!
  17. The whole 4 quarter we must have had several WR running wrong/bad routes as they were bunched up on several plays!
  18. I never thought Nebraska was a playoff team, so that's not what dropped off the table for me. What I thought was that we had turned the corner from not showing up in games. I thought everybody "learned their lesson" against McNeese. I thought Beck figured out how to effectively move the chains whether the defense took away the pass or took away the run. I was wrong. What I saw was an offense that didn't show up to play, particularly the offensive line, and an OC who hadn't effectively developed a counter attack to take advantage of a team stacking the box. I have serious doubts about this team's ability to consistently show up ready to play. Kernal, face it! Mich St. has a more complete team and beat us. We never quit like we have in the past. We are playing with several second string players - S, 2 CB, 2 LB, 2 WR (in fact, we are playing with 3rd stringers, FR & walk-ons) & TE.
  19. I complained about this for years, in 4 years our OL players get bigger but look soft! The fix has begun, but it will not help us this year. BOYD EPLEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. He needs to pop his cherry against an inferior team. He needs to go off. The guy needs a slump buster......I'm fairly sure I'm still talking about basketball, geez! It is true I have defended him last year, but I expect big jump out of him. That fact that he worked out with Petteway all summer, instead of going home says a lot about his competitive nature & desire to win.
  21. I am only saying that many on this board expected too much from him. It was my opinion that he lost confidence and was not ready to be a starting PG. I expect lot more out of him this year!
  22. 2013-14: 30% FG, 17% 3PT, 62% FT I hope Miles is right. He was a freshman and it took time for him to get accustom to the speed of the game. This pretty typical for a freshman in college basketball. Plus, we had very little choice due to lack of depth.
  23. Whose D does he have to pick up? Kind of a weird standard to set for a kid to play basketball. I would guess understanding what defense the opponent is running.
  24. They're saying Smith is planning to play after Christmas. Well here's to hoping he is in shape to play!! We will need him in B1G play. I understand that he has been exercising, just not playing BB or making any sudden side to side movements.
  25. The game has changed and anyone can beat anyone on a given night, unless you are Michigan. Just keep drinking the red Kool-Aid!
