Maybe the NW game was the type of game the D needed to gain it's confidence back. The adjustments made between the coaches and players, the 2nd half defensive performance, goal-line stand.......those type of aspects could light a fire for the defense. I really hope it does. Aaaaaaaaand......NEB is going to need Ankrah to keep stepping up if he is going to start and Randle didn't play that bad in the 2nd half...however, I still think Currry/VV/Collins are all better than Randle. This. We have talent of our defense and they have to be mad about what they have been doing recently and I hope this game "woke" them up and made them realize what they are capable of doing. They seemed like they were flying around from the get go. I think we should stick with Tommy he can run but he needs to work on zone defense passing and not staring down receivers. I really hope Tmart doesn't play because he seems very beat up.

it looked like he was spying the QB to me. But I hope we see more of this to confuse the OL, you can tell towards the end of the game their OL was very confused.

I think we should play both of them like we have been. TA did very freshman things but the only way to fix that is to keep letting him play. He can't read the defense very feel, stares down his number 1 but like I said more game time will fix that. I love him running, he always seems to get at least 4-5 yards which is great. Not sure we can make him run as much as he did last game. He seemed to start breaking down towards the end of the game. RKIII really only did well at the end of the game. But WOW what a great game! I am excited for the rest of this season, should definitely be interesting to say the least! GBR!

Found the problem. Major dickbag. I rank him with the likes of Jim Joyce (MLB umpire) and Joey Crawford (NBA ref) as far as the worst officials in sports. I don't blame him for the loss on Saturday, I've simply noticed a pattern of particularly poor officiating in NU games in which he has officiated. It's his crew, not just him, but I see more questionable calls from his crew than any other. Yep, I don't blame them for the loses but there have been a lot of questionable calls with them. Like the late hit by Afalava on the QB out of bounds then three weeks later they pick up the same flag on Martinez. Then the ejection on SJB then two weeks later they miss two easy ejection calls with Lemonnier staring right at Martinez getting hit. Then they call the celebration on Kenny after his one handed catch and didn't explain any thing, and no obvious holding calls from the Illinois game. I really just want to see consistency. I can sorta understand if we have different crews but its the same crew being horribly inconsistent.

I think Ameer is very underrated and not very many people know how good he is outside of us and a couple big ten teams. He is a perfect running back makes people miss able to run outside or in despite being undersized and has some decent speed. I am impressed with Gordon. He has some serious speed.

Making football safer is very important however if a player gets ejected and has to sit out because of it I think it's just not fair. I know people will just say that if you make a clean tackle in the first place you won't get ejected but personally when I played (granted only HS football) the only thing going through my mind as a DB going for a open field tackle is stopping the other guy no matter what. The rule about getting ejected is making players slow down and try to think about what they are doing and in turn can get them hurt by not going full speed. I like your idea about reviewing it after the game, games are getting too long anyways. They should have a group of "experts" to determine all the possible ejections from the weekend, I think the NFL has something like this.

I thought I understood this rule until this past weekend. I thought the call on SJB was bad but you could have made an argument either way if he should get ejected or not. But I really don't understand how the two hits on Martinez weren't called. In the picture the ref is literally staring at the play, that is absolutely terrible. I don't know how they picked the flag up on when Martinez was hit out of bounds. Definitely seems like something they would call if they are trying to make football more safe. These rules are without question ruining football.

While yes I agree players should wrap up to get their opponents to the ground, making the "big hit" can get into the heads of the offense. If you line up on the same side as a certain player after you just got demolished by them you might be looking out for them more which might make you hesitant as a player. just something else to think about

beat Michigan and Michigan State then have a bad loss to Penn State or Iowa. Sounds like husker football to me! In the past couple years I've really started to follow husker football and this is what seems happens. We play really well then take about 10 steps back in a game we shouldn't.

It is obvious that our offense has been more consistent with TA/RKIII rather than TMart since the begging of the year. Yes, TMart has been great for us in the past and led us to many comeback victories, but that was last years team. This year I have been impressed with what our offense can do with TA/RKIII.

Or the five-yards-out-of-bounds tackle on Martinez. How could that not be called? I don't care if the tackle did start slightly in bounds. You can't stick with a tackle that far OB. Exactly. The same thing happened when we played against Illinois. I can't believe the inconsistency with some calls.

I'm wondering how the face to face hit on Martinez was not called in the 3rd quarter (I think). Not sure how you can really miss that one….

I think our problems with tackling is not tackling in practice but rather just "wrapping up". On Saturdays you will come out and play like you practice. Only way to fix tackling is to actually tackle.

It does seem like this year, more than any other in the last few years...we've started to form an offensive identity. And maybe because Beck has paired down the playbook for Armstrong - but it used to just seem like they were all over the place. The last few games things felt a lot cleaner to me. I agree with this. When Armstrong is in he is able to take the offense down the field consistently. Of course he is a freshman and did freshman things last game but there were a couple big drops on his throws including a TD by Turner. If he had thrown that TD I think it's a different game for him and we would definitely have a QB controversy on our hands. I just hope that when Tmart plays we continue the whole pared down offensive playbook. With a smaller play book we are obviously able to rep the same plays we will actually run in games. I remember reading that Beck said we didn't even run 75% of the plays we did in practice during the UCLA game. This is a ridiculous statement. I hate when Beck tries to get too cute, I understand we need to keep the defense on their toes but why go away from what works. I would love to see more play action and more of the diamond formation. Our defense has improved a ton over the past few weeks. I know our opponents haven't been the best but we are actually tackling and lining up right. These things are obvious even against lesser competition. We are starting to truly figure out our personal and our identity. We know that we need to bring pressure and show different looks to be successful. I just hope that we don't take a step back this game and continue with what we have been doing.

17-14 Illinois. Their defense will score another TD but their offense won't get much done. Not sure how MSU is being favored in the legends. I know their defense is great but they haven't made really any progress like we have. Their offense hasn't really gotten much better while our defense has made great progress.

If he is good to go then he needs to play to get the rust off. I just hope that if he starts to play bad or doesn't seem ready (can't run in some capacity like he used to) then the coaches need to pull him. History has told us that the coaches don't want to pull him if he is playing bad or hurt.

Im playing Clash of Clans now. It's one of those games you build up your village and attack other people. It's pretty addicting.

That is to say nothing of the value of the rule in the first place. In regards to "fundamental tackling", there are obviously different opinions among defensive coaches. I've certainly heard many coaches and players say that head up is fundamental tackling ("see what you hit"). I think him being 6'3" and the offensive player is 5'8"(ish) makes it very hard for him to tackle with his head up, if he tries to make the tackle with his head up it makes for an awkward tackle and a possibility of getting hurt. I understand the rule is you can't make contact with the crown of the helmet but it's just dumb. You are penalizing players for playing, it's making football wussificated (probably not a actual word, but you know what I mean). Haha, oh dear. I'm 6'3".
