  1. I agree with you since we probably have another long snapper on hand (on the 105 man roster). But if there isn't another player that specializes in long snapping, or has even practiced it, a team can end up like this... http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000060639/article/travis-goethels-poor-snaps-doom-oakland-raiders Granted, you aren't going to take up two spots on the 53 man roster in the NFL for long snappers. But are you going to take up two spots on a travel roster for two long snappers in college?
  2. First off, my vote is Gregory. Our scheme for the D changes dramatically if he goes down. He is the type of player that you build a defense around. Bo did an excellent job of it the last half of the year. I know this seems like a joke, but I honestly think one of the most important positions to lose would be the long snapper. I am not sure how many we have on the roster, but having a dependable and consistent long snapper goes a long way. Lose your long snapper, you pretty much automatically lose the field position game. 4th and long backed up to our own 10 and the long snapper is out in a close game. Not a great position to be in.
  3. To be fair, Georgia lost a couple talented WR's, and the backup RB, and Gurley was out a few games. I think Georgia could be comparable, but they had, as we did, a very disappointing season BECAUSE of it. How about the freakin' loss of the starting QB as being one of (if not) THE most significant injury for any team. How many lost their starting QB's? We had a redshirt freshmen, who went 7-1 as starter, take his place. Georgia is the only team I can think of that lost their starting QB. I am sure there's more but you can't just brush that off as "teams have injuries..." Heck, the Patriots missed out on the playoffs in 2008 when Tom Brady was out for the year.
  4. I am and always will be cautiously optimistic. It's just in my nature. I was cautiously optimistic in 1994. As I was in 1995. 1996 was one year that I was not cautiously optimistic and went over that hump and went full optimistic. Does anyone remember when they started making the "3-peat" shirts before the season?!? I vaguely remember Johnny Rodgers being involved in that. Maybe I made that up? Anyway, I don't see anything wrong with saying we're gonna win it all. I don't see anything wrong with saying we're only going to win 2 games. It's the pre-season. For all we know, we might injure our whole QB fleet and we'll have JTurner as our starting QB by years end. He could be freakin' amazing and find a way to win the Heisman for breaking records as both a Receiver and a QB. We'll lose 2 games due to those injuries, but find a strong footing with him as our QB, win the Big Ten, find ourselves among other 1-2 loss teams (no team will be undefeated) and narrowly make it into the playoff (thanks to Tom Osborne) and win the whole darned thing! That's my cautiously optimistic perspective. Seriously though, the only thing I know for sure is that I am crazy excited for the season. I'll cheer those boys on every game until I lose my voice. And Randy Gregory will be a BEAST! GBR!
  5. Alright, you heard the guys above. End of discussion... Thanks for showing up guys!
  6. Of all seats to avoid, I'd say avoid the "obstructed view" seats under the balconies on West and East Stadium. I think a good threshold is Row 35. Anything higher and you can only see the field. I've sat in the lower "obstructed view" seats too. At that level on East and West Stadium you'll be watching the game through the players on the sidelines. It's been a while though, and I was in middle school when I sat there, but at least you can see the sky in those "obstructed view" seats. I sit in the new east stadium expansion, and having sat everywhere else, I love it up there. Personally, I like being able to see all the action, being able to see the plays develop and where everyone is lined up. I know you can in other parts too, but I like it from there the best. Plus, you can't beat front row up there... Another reason is how easy it is to get to the concourse compared to other parts of the stadium. It's usually always a hassle to get all the way down to the concourse. But up there, the concourses and restrooms are very close. Especially when comparing to north and south stadiums where the journey up and down ramps are pretty long. Many times I've gone to the bathroom and back in my seats during a 30 second timeout. The only bad part is there's two men's restrooms up there, which form some pretty good lines during halftime. Still not insanely bad though. No where are there seats like this though... http://molempire.com/2011/09/14/worst-seats-on-stadiums-around-the-world/ (although, the top row of the "obstructed view" east and west stadium could be similar to the first image)
  7. Didn't know we'd get an app for in-game updates and such. Looks like we'll be able to watch videos too, on-demand replays would be awesome! What would be even better is live game feeds if you absolutely need to go to the bathroom. Loved the idea before, with that app, the idea just got better.
  8. I don't know for sure, but I assume you only leave one guy back there for this reason: Let's say he doesn't catch the ball. That leaves the ball jumping all over the place, which, with a couple guys back there that aren't paying attention to where the ball is or will bounce, it's not the situation you want to put your players in. If it mistakenly hits one of them, it's a live ball. You might argue that he may muff it. Which is a possibility and happened too often than we wanted it to (muffed punt against Michigan), but a ball bouncing every which way with too many of our players back there is probably more risky. It only takes one of those extra guys back there to be engaged with an opposing player to get hit by the ball.
  9. Can he do it? HELL YEAH! Will he? No. Why? Imani Cross and the other talent in our backfield. He won't be getting every carry throughout the season, nor should he. He is incredibly versatile and talented, probably the best RB in the nation. He could most definitely handle getting every single carry, like the guy who will lead the nation in yards (for College State University in the Small Teams Conference because he's the only talent the team has...) but Cross will get and deserves the carries that he'll get. Cross will probably have just as many TD's as AA, but only because he has been our short yardage back. I know AA will get his carries in the red zone, he'll be down there in the red zone, with the game on the line (like he was during Michigan), but during the games that aren't on the line, we have the lead, and don't want to risk an injury to AA. Cross will be getting those carries. And he should, he'll have plenty of amazing plays (thinking of his amazing run against Wyoming last year). I'd love to see it, but we're too fortunate to have the talent that we have in the backfield behind him that are capable of being a premier back at College State University (The Generals?). It's a good problem to have, Could he do it? Without a doubt in my mind. He's the most talented back we've had in a long time. A true Heisman Candidate at the RB position.
  10. That was true under the BCS rankings - nobody knows what's going to happen moving forward. In fact, the committee is designed to NOT credit preseason rankings. We'll have to wait and see if that's true. In week two say #6 beats #9. Then #9 wins a total of 4 games on the year. BUT they were #9 at the time they played #6. Youre right though IT SHOULDNT factor in but Id be surprised if it doesnt with certain teams. Another thing that sucks is there is no limit on how many teams a league can send to the playoff, the SEC could potentially snd 3 or 4 teams. Exactly, which is why I respectfully disagree with your statement about preseason hype. Why have the hype if that team only wins 4 games? That's junk... That's why I lend no credence to the preseason rankings. That is also why the BCS didn't come out until week 6. I say screw off with your preseason ranking and hype! (not "yours" as in you... just the ones who write about this, well, get paid to write about this...) Because honestly, your scenario is exactly what is wrong with preseason rankings and hype. But by week six, we already know that #9 was no good, which would in turn effect the true outcome of whom will play at the end of the season. That's exactly the outcome of last season. Last season is a perfect example of the needlessness of the preseason rankings and hype. The two teams playing for National Championships: One team was unranked. The other, looking from outside the top 10. Although I will say, without this preseason stuff, what the hell would we do during the offseason?!?
  11. Who thinks Michigan has more "#relevant" status than us? Other than being just "OK" or worse than they should be? They didn't have nearly the injury problems we had this previous season, yet they had a pretty bad season last year. Finishing off the season with a loss to KSt. What is more "#relevant" there is just how bad they were last year. That is the story you're saying is more "#relevant" and maybe that is more relevant, just how bad they have gotten despite the consistently good talent they get. I commend Michigan for having a great game against OSU. That was a great game to watch, but they are in no way, more "#relevant" than Nebraska at this point. They only reason that Michigan gained any relevancy with that game was because OSU was #3 at the time. Sure they played a great game, but in they end they still lost. Then went off and lost to KSt. That's not "#relevant" to me.
  12. Anything preseason is dumb. If they were at all accurate or said anything about the actual game of football it'd be worth talking about. What was Auburn's preseason ranking or "power index ranking" last year? You all know this, I am beating a dead horse...
  13. I said something like this a few pages ago. I completely agree with you, except I would use knitting needles. Unless you're looking for the most damage done. Crochet needles have hooks at the ends of them, which just isn't sensible...
  14. Oh gosh... THIS AGAIN! We were actually doing really well without this crap being muddled again. We honestly had about a week of freedom from this. AND NOW, here we are again. HOW MANY TIMES DO WE HAVE TO HAVE THE SAME CONVERSATION ABOUT BO?!?! "This isn't the same conversation though!" Yes it is. SHUT UP...
  15. He could throw like Tim Tebow all he wants. As long as he provides us with W's I could care less about his accuracy. Actually, I think his accuracy is fine though. It's his decision making that he needs to work on. He also needs to work on "seeing the field" better before and during each play. Which will then refine and strengthen his decision making. Tough dude though. Everyone loves playing with him, and that kind of leadership goes a loooong way. I know it's difficult for us to understand, but you don't go 7-1 as a starter by accident. There is just something about the kid that makes the team better. I know a lot could be said about why we won those games, but everyone on the team genuinely loves playing with him.
  16. GSG If I were to guess, I would say the black on top is part of the speaker system, with additional speakers being added to each side of the big screen.
  17. Like I said, they knew it may have been illegal, but those are abandoned bikes at that point. Why not take advantage of what the University themselves was going to do? Auction them off. When the University does it: it's legal. A couple of kids: felony. I am not saying it's right. I am merely suggestion an intent on their young actions (albeit dumb and idiotic).
  18. Speaking of twitter and sound system upgrade. Anyone check the Husker Fund twitter page? https://twitter.com/HuskersFund I wanted to post the pic but couldn't to save my life. Their background has what seems to a concept image of the upgrade of the sound system. Anyone know anything more about this? Thoughts?
  19. That's right! I went to that #Nebrasketball game (sorry, twitter lingo) after seeing so much on twitter about #NoSitSunday. I checked twitter during the game, I uploaded pics and stuff about how insane the crowd was. How electric the place was. How awesome to see our basketball team get this kind of energy. Never missed a dribble. Thanks to the WiFi at the Vault, it was hella easier to do it and hell faster. It allowed me to interact with the guy who sat next to me as we complained about a certain call. It allowed me to talk to my sister about how fun the game is. I would never miss a snap at a game. But I would love to share with people how awesome the experience is. That's the kind of thing that creates buzz. When people on twitter get updates from @Huskers about fans at the game are having a blast. They say "maybe I should go to a game". I am excited for it. Updates on player stats, injuries, and just social commentary from a friend in Colorado. I would never be distracted from the game itself, and I will guarantee that I will lose my voice like I do every game. I am sure I speak for a lot of people when I say that. And if we're going to do this age-ist thing, can I say how annoying it is when older fans sit on their hands, yell at me to sit down, and leave the game early? Over-generalization, but so is "being distracted on their phones!"
  20. I don't really like the "crazy motorcycle painted helmet" look that is the current trend right now. Although, you could say that Michigan's helmet has something similar to that effect. I am still very partial to the logo on each side or once side look. It's a lot like hockey has their logos on the front of their jerseys, or baseball has theirs on their hats. It's singular, it's simple. But most of all, it's sports. No matter what trendy thing Oregon, or Maryland or anyone else does for their jerseys and helmets. We will always have the Nebraska's, the Alabama's, the Michigan's, the Chicago Bear's, the Yankee's, the Steeler's, and all others that stick to the traditional look that will always be timeless. I used to always wanted us to use the 90's Block N with the script "Huskers" logo we had on our helmets. But now that I am older (not 10... haha) I love that simple N. You will never confuse our helmets and have to guess what team it belongs to. So long (ass) story short, besides ours, I like Alabama's. It is just so plain and traditional, that it's like a factory worker's jumpsuit, or a doctor's scrubs. It's got that "f*ck what we look like, let's play football!" mentality.
  21. I have a feeling him and his buddy probably did this thing annually. They knew it was illegal, but nobody ever did anything about it. I mean, c'mon, the call to 911 was at around 5 pm. That was on a nice day too. Either they are incredibly bold, incredibly stupid, or nobody did anything about it previous years. I thought about how dumb this was on his part, "why steal bikes? what an idiot!" I thought, but then I thought about something a friend of mine did. I had a buddy that used to raid the dorm dumpsters for carpet that students put in their dorms, but couldn't take it home with them, so they just threw them out. My buddy and his dad would take the carpet and make $2000 from that. I have a feeling that was the case here. The bikes were viewed as "garbage" to those who left it, so they just took it for some money. They'd probably been doing this for 3 years or so since they both lived in Lincoln previously. But what the heck do I know? That's just something my friend used to do. Who knows why the students leave their bikes. Maybe they just left them there because they didn't want to have to deal with them, just like the carpet. Sure you can reuse it, but it's easier to just throw it away (albeit bikes are more expensive?).
  22. As a HUGE fan of football and the Huskers, I am more than excited to get WiFi. You'll never find me being distracted during the game! If anything, it'll help keep the damn kids in the stadium. From what I hear, they leave because they can't update their selfies and reactions to Twitter. So why am I excited? Player stats. Also, we are left in the dark about injuries and such while people at home get some sort of update from the sideline reporter. Score updates from other games that could give a lot more meaning to our game. Those sorts of things take just a few seconds with WiFi. Meanwhile, what we have now, which is pretty close to nothing, I am actually wasting more time trying to figure out another score. I know, small things, but honestly, I'm pretty excited. All those other good fans will love it for those reasons, and will not be distracted. All those fans who will be distracted by it would have found another way to be distracted anyway. If anything, we're providing more speed to the process and eliminating waiting time that could be spent watching or cheering the team.
  23. I am pretty sure we have consistently beat Minnesota for quite some time, and I am more than confident that we will continue to beat them consistently. So they beat us this year with our QB injured and our first week without a 3rd round draft pick of an OL (Long). Hagemann was a BEAST that game, and you know Long would have had a fun time containing him. Also, anyone who knows how our defense grew this year knew that our Defense didn't have it together then. Also, when was the last time we lost to NW? 2011. Who cares that we needed a hail mary to win the last game? I'd take a hail mary game win with the stadium almost full at the end of the game with everyone yelling "GO BIG RED!!" any day over a blowout game with the stadium 25% full halfway through the 4th quarter. It's moments like those that make sports so special. Seeing Abdullah also make a clutch play to keep that drive alive was just a feat that not many players have the ability to do. I don't care who the competition is. Every championship team will tell you a W is a W, even our championship teams. And who honestly cares about what they do with the stadium? If you are quantifying our perceived success and how that perception needs to be maintained because we've got new speakers in the stadium, I have to question that persons priorities and where their loyalties lie. I am not saying that I am questioning yours, but there needs to be more to the debate you want to start than "the stadium is getting better..." I also know that you did not want that to come out that way, but that is the way that came off. If you want to be taken seriously, and not be called a troll as some have on this board, then I would suggest not throwing things out there just for the sake of throwing things out there just to be heard. Because to be honest, that is how you come off. Otherwise, you'll be consistently ignored by numerous people who don't know your line of work.
  24. I can see him playing in the NFL. As long as he is open to the idea of playing another position besides QB. I'd loved to see Crouch in the NFL in any position. At the time, I liked his stubbornness, but now I just wish he would've played. I can see taylor playing though, WR if his hand's are good. Going the route of other great running QBs. I can't seem to remember them now. I know someone will jump in for me though. Brad Smith is the only one that comes to mind.
  25. The offense was exciting! It's still unbelievable how Marlon Lucky was our leading receiver one year. We probably would have been even better if we had better WR's. I like our WR's we have now. I think Allen will be something special, he seems to have a knack for having great communication and chemistry with QB's. Watching some of the best plays from the spring game (I know, the spring game isn't a game of true competition but..) he made a great play along the sideline where he found the sweetspot within the zone coverage. His TD was great too. I know it seemed easy since the corner was coming in on a blitz, but a lot of WR's don't seem to recognize that as quick as Allen did.
