  1. I really dislike that notion. I know players practice and all but how do you know a player is not game ready unless you give them a shot? Many players throughout history have come off the bench and jumped into the spotlight. You really don't know how good someone is until you put them in a live game. See 2007 when Sam Keller went down, Joey Ganz came in and became a very, very good QB and people constantly kept saying we had no one behind Keller that could be a solid QB. I heard AJ Bush was good As long as the other quarterbacks remain on the bench, they never will get good. i am beginning to doubt the coaches ability to judge talent in practice. I think Armstrong it too good of an athlete to bench him. He is not a pocket thrower and I don't think he ever will be. He is an amaxing runner and throws reasonably well on the run. He would be a Heisman candidate if he was running an old Husker triple option offense. I think he would have done better than Crouch. I think Riley and Langsdorf are too much of the west coast offense crowd. They need to change.
  2. Miami beat us barely. Clemson just buried Miami. The Huskers are a long way from being a top tier team. A losing record this year and no bowl game appearance will hurt recruiting. I think we are not going to recover soon. We fired two winning coaches because they embarrassed us with some big losses but they at least won 9 games. Their firings have led us to Callahan who almost destroyed the program and now to a losing season. I don't know where we go from here. I hope Riley will get it together. We can't become known as the school who has a revolving door for coaches.
  3. This team has no pride and guts. Our offense is not good. The line is average at best, the receivers have the dropsies, the quarterback can't throw accuratle and usually with bad mechanics, and the offensive system is not offensive in the football sense. No bowl this year unless the state high school champion team challenges the Huskers- the Huskers may be the underdog.
  4. Minnesota by 10 in the last quarter. Huskers unable to get a first down and Minnesota goes the distance for seven. Nebraska throws an intercetion attempting a comeback and Minnesota gets a field goal to ice it.

    WTF

Its more like 9 wins almost but close!
  6. Above average team with average coaching less fundamentals equals heartache.
  7. Taking down the banners would hurt the team. They need motivation to live up to something, aspire to something and have goals of high standards and performance. If the coaches can't do it, then team history, Husker mania, former player histories and contacts, etc. may get them to identify with an image of traditions, excellence, and performance they don't seem to sacrifice to attain now. Taking the banners down says "You don't belong, your are not a Husker, don't bother."
  8. Let's try another approach. Hire the coaches as a team at $1.5 million per game. If they win, they get the money to split up. If rhey lose, they get nothing.
  9. Shawn Watson and Clemson are beating Notre Dame Shawn Watson is an assistant coach at Texas. DeShaun Watson is the QB at Clemson... Shawn Watson is at Texas. He was demoted two weeks ago for his play calling. Jay Norvel is calling the plays now. They lost big today so Charley Strong, Shawn Watson and Jay Norvel should be available for us to hire next year.
  10. Yu r all wrung! Ikehorst hyred a bad koach to git fired. Then he lives hi on the hog with all thoz millyuns pade out on contract. The only wey to git evun is keep him and make suffer years of our abuse on thes posts.
  11. Wisconsin wins. We should get used to losing this year. I think we should hire back Marvin Sanders no matter what he did to get fired. If Mike Riley does not pan out, we should petition Warren Buffett to hire Nick Saban at any cost instead of giving his money to charity. The Huskers are a charity case in bigger need. Con Agra is moving away and football is on the ropes leaving only corn for Nebraskans pride.
  12. I don't think we will go bowling this year unless its real bowling wtih ten pins.
  13. We are running the offense. We need more I formation with fullback and I back running power runs with traps and pulls. They should build a passing attack off of the I formation to disguise the intent. Riley runs too many slow developing east-west plays. Football is a north-south game. The defense needs help with defensive schemes but mostly with pass defense coaching. I learned that I now expect the Huskers to lose games rather than how much we will win by. Our receivers are sloppy and our game is ragged. Today the team played harder than in other games but still not enough of an effort to be called Husker Football. I expect a losing season and no bowl games this year. As a result, some fo the good recruits will pull their letters of intent. Get ready for Huskers to remain in mediocrity. BTW- the all white uniforms suck.
  14. Under- Husker passing Over- Illiniois passing and over the CBs abilities
  15. Won't argue with your points but you missed the biggest. Our pass defense and especially the secondary is not good enough to win the Big 10 West. Unless Banker has superstars sitting on the bench, he needs to do a lot of full speed full contact pass defense drills to improve their coverage and playing the ball. If not, our season will be a bad one to try to forget.
  16. The replay I saw was from behind Armstrong. It looked to me that Allen was open at the throw but Armstrong just underthrew it. He may have tryiing to put too much speed on the ball and it went low. If he had put some loft on the ball to get over the corner, then the safety might have had time to close. If he thrown hard and a little higher, it would have been a jump ball. An over thrown ball would have been an incomplete pass out of the end zone. Then we would have a second & ten but we would still have had the ball. In my view, Armstrong did not execute.
  17. I googled the FBS 2015 stats: Nebraska Defense: Overall #108 out of 127 teams. Passing Defense: #126 Rushing Defense: #21 -- My conclusion is that teams have not tried to run on us in any serious manner. Nebraska Offense: Overall #23 out of 127 teams. Passing: #22 Rushing: #69 -- My conclusion is that we don't have any balance and a weak offensive line.
  18. The team did not quit in the two losses. I have hope although they won't have a 9 win season if they continue to play like the first three games. We have a defense that thinks tackling around the shoulder pads is okay. How many times do we see lineman and linebackers tackling high and getting dragged for 3 yards after contact. They don't appear to react quickly on the line. I think this is a problem for coaches not emphasizing basic fundamentals and having enough full speed contact drills and scrimmages. I don't know exactly what to say about the defensive secondary. It just is not working. It may old grapes but I wish we had Marvin Sanders back. Our linebackers don't seem to have a major impact on the defense. Against BYU, our defensive line made their charges but failed to maintain their lanes and the linebackers were ??. In the last game, they maintained their lanes and did put some pressure on the QB but not enough. The offense has showed itself to be self destructive in short stretches and then come back too late. The offensive line appears to be too slow for wide runs and don't get out quick enough for interior runs. I don't think Newby is the inside runner or a power runner. Armstrong is a gifted athelete but continues to have poor throwing mechanics in the drop back role. He has good passing stats on occasion but I don't thing good enough for a Wisconsin, Michigan State or Ohio State. I think Newby may be a good Johnny Rodgers wingback and Armstrong might be best used as a running back I would like to see Riley go back to an I formation power attach with some increased passing plays and misdirection plays in addition to option. I don't know if our line could support it but they don't seem to have much success now and especially with influence blocking for read runs. Until Riley solves the problem of poor offensive line and weak defensive backfield, we will continue to be a good team but not a great team. In fairness, Riley was hurt by the recruits who left when Peliini and his assistants were fired. I will always be a Husker fan but Saturday afternoons have been harder to live with since the Solich-Callahan era.
  19. Both lines played better than I expected. Receivers did better than I expected. Wilbon is a great surprise. Armstrong played a good game overall. The defensive backs did much better than I expected overall. Tackling was pretty good most of the time except for Gangwish in the backfield chasing the QB. We have a line that failed on two 3rd & 1s when we really needed it. Play calls on those two plays??? Armstrong is not a great passing QB- mechanics and decision times. Armstrong is a fantastic runner and should have run more. I expect Nebraska to have a great power run game and I did not see it. We gave up 511 yards. That is not good no matter what positives you see. Field goal kicking is bad. The defensive line kept the pressure up but with few sacks and often did not maintain their lanes allowing the QB many first downs.
  20. In my opinion, only a fool does not sub his lineman. 1) You need experienced lineman to fill holes caused by the injuries and sickness that will happen during the season. 2) There is no lineman development better than game experience against first string opponents at full speed. 3) You need fresh lineman during those games where any combinatiion of heat or exhaustion may limit their giving 100% on every play on a long drive or a hurry up offense. 4) You need experienced lineman to take into the next year after the seniors are gone. 5) The morale of the second and third strings will be better through the week if they know they will play and get to show their skills. 6) Eventually one of the starters will face an opponent they cannot handle. One of the others may get the job done- quicker, faster, stronger or smarter.
  21. Probably too much pro experience.
  22. I don't like the prevent defenses either. But, this problem was not the prevent defense. Its one last play with three defenders who did not play the ball or try to knock it down.
