  1. I am not overlooking your prediction of a nice win in this game, but I think it's a stretch to say where we are as a program is not pretty. We had one season.....and yes, I understand it was just last season......but we had one season of defensive issues. I think based on Pelini's history, including his first four full seasons as our head coach, we need not be worried the sky is falling.
  2. Interesting to know.....though I assume you mean pink slip. I'm not quite as certain of this.....of course I don't see us getting "blown out". I believe it was a one year thing. Our defense last season was simply not very talented. I think we're fine this year.
  3. And, why does it have to be like that? And, even if other programs are like that, why does Nebraska have to be like that? I personally find that an indictment on the fan base of those schools more so than the way the industry should be. I hate coaching changes and believe they many times set back a program and stunts it's growth. ND over the last few decades is a prime example of this. completely agree, brb. and husker_99, you can keep a coach around just because you like him. especially if it appears that the future is bright and he has succeeded. you can keep a coach around but paying Bo $3 million a year for blowouts isn't smart. In what way has Bo succeeded unless you start counting division championships as the new standard. all right then who is your choice for the next head coach at Nebraska? Tell who is going to come in and for sure win for you? Didn't we go down this type of road in 2003? I'm confident we learned enough that Pelini's job is in no jeopardy......nor should it be. And linking Pelini's salary to the recent yardage given up is short sighted. Talk about rolling the dice on another coach if you like, but remember we just did that in 2004 and it turned out to be perhaps the worst mistake in the modern era of Nebraska football.
  4. Coaches plan and coach. Players execute. And Wyoming was only one game also, but it's not the score or yardage our defense gave up that will benefit us from that.....it's the experience against a quality opponent.
  5. I learned Stanley Jean-Baptiste is one of those corners who is going to fight for any ball in the air. A reminder of 2003 when Pelini had Bullocks. Foltz may actually have a bionic foot. Enunwa is the emotional leader of the offense and is going to have a great year. We have great players at each level of the defense again and a very active defense. Only real concern from this game was the number of 3rd & longs our offense was in.
  6. I like a great defense. With that said, isn't MIch St "O-fer" against us? I'll take what we got because it gets us in the win column more often than them.
  7. You've said this same exact thing in every other thread about the defense this week. Just stop already... No, let him keep going. I love how the quote from Fisher in regards to the offensive struggles at times is somehow morphed into the defensive side of things. I get a good chuckle That and people acting like 500+yards and 37 points is a terrible performance by our offense. I din't think anyone with a sense of rationality could say our offense was terrible. A few boneheaded calls, sure. But our O was good and I can't wait to see what Westerkamp can do, as I think He'll end up being one of our best pass catchers since Swift and Peterson. Our offense was certainly not terrible. The offense could do themselves a lot of favors by not turning the ball over. What's the saying?......we left some points on the field.
  8. Most likely Fox & Hound in Lone Tree CO
  9. I also agree with this. The defense the past couple of seasons had a few guys that had to play of out position......such as Stein, Meredith and Santos.
  10. A lot of our offense is based on Pelini giving insight to Beck on what offensively causes a defensive coordinator nightmares.
  11. The defensive stats Pelini is known for include pass efficiency defense, turnovers and scoring defense.
  12. That's why Pelini has said he probably shouldn't have redshirted some of these guys. They were needed last year. Let me be clear about my opinion on this.....we did not have the physical talent we needed on defense last season. We lacked size at DT and speed at LB. Those things can hurt you in a big way.
  13. How about LSU - Alabama 2007? Pelini has scoreboard and trophy. Bo was the HC at LSU in 2007? Nope. So I guess the board should also stop the Cosgrove comparisons. That would take away a few threads.
  14. How about LSU - Alabama 2007? Pelini has scoreboard and trophy.
  15. 1. Giving up 600 yards 2. ??? I really hate being the negative one, and I know the first game of the season is too soon to get an idea of how good the team is, but these have seem to become much more of a trend recently. 2. Struggling with teams we are much more talented than 3. Not having fire and intensity every game (as admitted by players) 4. Getting out coached. 5. The offense having to carry the load. 6. This may be a bit of a stretch, but losing the connection with past players. However, I do think that Bo is doing a hell of a job with the character of the team off the field. We don't have to worry about off the field issues, grades, or NCAA violations. I actually like Bo alot and I want him to be the guy to get us a championship, but I'm starting to wonder how much time he needs. 2. I think Tom Osborne saw this coming back around the time the Big 12 was formed. There is parity now. Here's something to consider about the talent issue. In the 1990's, we had 5 or more players selected in the NFL draft every single year of that decade. Every single year. In more than a decade since then, we've had 5 or more players selected 3 times. Three......3. You may be saying this because of the tweet from J Turner. That's fine, I don't know if it's correct or not and I'm not sure anyone outside the locker room would know.......4. Probably some validity to this, we hired Bo with no head coaching experience......yet in his tenure he has won games like few other coaches in the NCAA have done......5. We were saying the exact opposite when we had a talented defense......6. I have no idea.
  16. Pelini still has to coach these new guys we have on defense now. The difference is hopefully these guys have the physical ability we lacked the past couple of seasons. And to be clear, our recruiting issues are on Pelini. The good news is he seems to have made them a priority.
  17. Pelini actually has 50 wins now I wonder if this chart will get posted 500 times like the one about yardage given up?
  18. Jimmys and Joes. Why do you think we're playing frosh, redshirt frosh and juco transfers?
  19. The last play of the game is a good visual of something that has to change from the DL. Pelini mentioned it.....he said we have to get the quarterback on the ground. On the last play, Moss whiffed......then Ankrah gets jersey but no takedown.....then Randle does the same.
  20. Isn't the focus of the gripe from game one the allowing of 600 yards? That's a recent issue for Pelini's tenure and they are addressing it immediately through the recruiting efforts we are seeing take the field now.
  21. Well, this team has played one game. True story.
  22. Head Coaches can be terminated at any time - just depends on the buyout. Bear in mind - I don't think this is remotely likely to happen. Just saying it could. I agree about the direction of the program and how Bo's running the ship. But those blowout losses or statistical nightmare games cannot simply be overlooked because Bo does a good job off the field. Yes, sorry.....I wasn't referring to the business side of assistant coaches/head coaches. Assistant coaches often go to a different school because of head coaching hires. I don't think Pelini is remotely likely to be fired either. Your post just didn't sound quite that way to me. Nebraska has a history that we can look at for the risk/reward of the head coach.....just look at the Osborne situation compared to the Solich situation. Let's hang on to Pelini.
