  1. Crazy to think that Solich might have remained here for another few years and things wouldn't have gotten to this kind of shape now. Sure, we can all say that one will never know, but I think knowing what we know now, pretty sure Solich could have won 9 games a season because BO did with no offensive identity. I mean Pelini might have been here for a few years with Solich and well it is what it is now.
  2. I think that the longer we remain in the Big 10, the longer this feeling of being lost will remain. Switching conferences right now is not an option, but seriously reconstructing our schedule should be an option. Bring on a different Thanksgiving game, possibly with OU or Colorado, or even K-St. It would make the Big 10 money as well, and thats actually what this conference is more about than anything else.
  3. The notion of a super conference of all Power 5 schools will come true at some point. The NCAA isn't capable of keeping this thing going much longer. If by chance Alabama ends up in the playoff this season, were that much closer to having a super conference or whatever they might call it. I don't know how that would work out for the future, but your right playing Maryland in November is kind of what has happened to this program as well. Not that long ago, this time of year we were getting ready for KSU now, followed by Colorado, whom use to be OU. I tend to agree with you, but the money all of these conferences are making is still going to be the deciding factor. If by chance they could bring in a system that allows each conference winner a shot at the title, all of this stuff would just go away and things would play out on the field. Have to win your conference, I don't think that would be that wrong.
  4. I asked this one question on a different thread: What is our expectations going forward? 9-10 wins regularly, with 8 wins being a must. Competing for West division titles? Competing for Big 10 titles? Looking ahead at our schedule for the next few seasons I don't see any reason why we can't get at least 9 wins in 21', 22', and 23'. Our Big 10 schedule is easier and our non con besides OU isn't daunting.
  5. Just looking ahead at our next few seasons and how the schedule looks, I am thinking that 2021, 2022 and 2023 look like pretty favorable years for us to make our move. 2021 not as much as the other two, but if we are getting the recruits we need, and developing them the way we should be, our time is coming soon, just not tomorrow.
  6. Jsut wondering what everyone's take on " That good again" means now, year 2019? Expectations should be what going forward? 9-10 wins? West division titles? My take is consistent 9 wins, 10-11 wins and win the west every 2-3 years, playing for the Big 10 title. Is that what were hoping for or more?
  7. Amart looked great in the first quarter, but as the game went along, looked lesser and lesser. I don't know if its play calling or just lack of execution by all on offense. Amart is learning, but other QB's in the nation are progressing and doing things better with similar experience. Our system isn't more complicated than others. Man, when he runs the option, it looks like its natural. We need to use that more often and use it more than silly screen passes.
  8. We scored 21 points and lost by 16 points. Yards mean nothing unless you score points with them. Not trying to be negative, but we should have hung 35 on Wisky, because they weren't ready to play today. Its sad when opponents like Wisky show up half hearted in the first quarter and don't take us seriously. Its time for that to change. Big 10 TV crew even stated that Wisky looked like they were just going thru the motions to start the game. Its hard to really guage if we are improving or if teams like Wisky can show up and give 80% effort and still win by double digits. We will find out next week if this game is a sign of things to come or if it was just Wisky playing half speed for the first half. If Maryland beats our butts, then we will know the answer.
  9. I will correct that statement. Its our timing of the pass that gets me going more than run vs pass. Most of our games this season we have passed it more than run it. Right before AMart and his interception, Mills ran for a good chunk play. Didn't have to pass the ball right then. Just didn't have to do so. Its ok if we have a rusher gain 200 yards as well. It seems like we won't or can't have someone on offense outshine Amart. That my take on this team, this season.
  10. Once you have them off balance you can mix it up some. Wisky is winning 8-9 games per season by running the ball and using play action pass. Not saying that you can't and shouldn't pass the ball, but when you can control the clock, control the line of scrimmage, you do those things and most of the time, your going to win the game. We would take 9 wins per season right now wouldn't we? TOP is still a factor in games. KSU beat OU, time of possesion was almost 3 to one. It matters.
  11. But we had chances to keep pounding the rock and chose to run some pass plays. We were gashing them the whole game, could have controlled it completely. That interception changed the game in seconds, completely took the wind out of our sails.
  12. Defense is only one part of this. Qb throwing interceptions is another issue. Seems like to me that as soon as our QB threw that interception, our defense had a huge letdown. If we ran the ball a little bit more, and left our defense on the sidelines more, it would help. Ball control..........Our great teams did that. With offenses being way ahead of defenses in most leagues, leave the other teams offense on the sidelines more!
  13. Recruited talent is one thing, developing that talent into actual football players is another. We haven't seen any players develop for about 5 years now. Starting to see some of our players look the part, but I think we wasted alot of talent in the last 4 plus seasons that wasn't used or developed. It still is a talent issue, but that talent is on the roster, just not getting the job done yet.
  14. I will end with this: Frost is our guy, and will gets things somewhat figured out, but not unitl he stops refusing to run more than pass. Its like he is doing this in spite of the fan base at times.
  15. No moral victories from me. I don't care if we had 500 yards of offense, its smoke and mirrors offense. When we ran Mills, we controlled the game.............WTF. Thats my biggest take from this game. Don't have to pass the ball 30 times a game to win football. Pass the ball 15-20 times and use play action. Simple football.
  16. Until Frost gets over his stubbornness, and runs the damn ball more, this is going to happen. Had opportunities to run the ball, and didn't when we should have, and did run enough to have some balance, but Wisky wasn't stopping Mills, Frost did.
  17. To much SEC bias in my opinion. 5 of the top 12 are SEC. Its like no matter what the SEC is guaranteed a spot or maybe two.
  18. Offense has laid enough eggs this year. Colorado game being an eye opener. Minny game was a bad game, but the offense was moving the ball, but kept stalling out. Not having a place kicker for a few games was a minus as well. Purdue for me was squarely on the offense. Should have been a blow out by halftime, and it wasn't. Wisky is beatable. They have a very good defense, but Illinois beat them, and Ohio ST rolled them. Wisky might lose another game or two. If our fans can't get fired up for that game, in our house and provide some support, then I don't know a game that would matter more.
  19. Starts and ends with recruiting. Until we have some NFL draft picks on this roster, the games are not going to change a lot. A break thru victory would change things immensely. Heck, a Bethune-Cookman game right now would change things up! When I read threads like this, and ask myself which part of this team is doing good, you don't have an answer.......no part is doing theres well enough. Can't pinpoint one certain area that needs more help than the other. Schemes don't matter, on either side of the ball. If we lose our next game, might as well burn the RS and get players some time and action to evaluate for next season. Find your best 11 on both sides of the ball and play them. If we are doing that already, then our best 11 on each side is well below average. Again, recruiting is the mainstay for any program. We were minus for a couple of years, and now playing catch up. It only takes a few players to change or transform a roster. Either addition by subtraction, or just plain adding some thru recruiting.
  20. Yeah comparing our roster to Ohio St and others likewise is pointless. They are Top 5 recruited talent for many seasons now. If we get a Top 15 class, thats a start in the right direction. Ohio St replaces draft picks with more draft picks the following year. NFL draft is still the biggest indicator of talent on a roster. Were lucky to have a player selected and others have to replace a whole roster. When we start to see players get drafted, our win-loss record will reflect it.
  21. Its easy to blame Chin for all of our woes, but our offense and its staff is questionable as well. If our offense had shown any signs of life against Colorado, that game would have been over by halftime. Same for the Purdue game. I think our offense is as much for the blame as the defense. If we could sustain a drive, take some pressure off what is suppose to be our weakest link, it would help. Its all about talent and depth. We lack in both areas, and will until we get every position at least filled with 2 deep Big 10 talent, this might be the scenario for another two seasons. Our offensive line is or could be the worst in all of college football.
  22. I would love to see us get some recruits who gave a crap about the school. We have some, but not near enough to make a difference yet. It will take some in state boys to get this thing looking different. You watch Penn St, and Ohio St and others, and they grew up fans of those schools and when its their turn, they have some pride. Until that happens again, this might be a continuous cycle.
  23. I looked at the Top 20 defensive teams and 5 are not Power 5 teams and when 5 of the top 12 are Big 10 teams that have played Iowa, Northwestern,Purdue, Illinois, and us already in some combo already, that doesn't hold any water. Schedule driven stats. Lets look at the end of the year who is in the top 20. Were allowing 29 points per game right now. Florida St is open, would Frost and CO consider?
  24. Its time to be realistic about what the game is today. Most teams are going to score some points in every game. Most defenses are built for bend but don't break method. The defense played well enough for the offense to build a big lead. Not defending Chin or Frost. I believe this was a complete team losing matter. I think the offense with Amart is flat. I think Spencer Tilllman was 100% correct in his assessment of him, and the fact he doesn't give it 100% all of the time. You can't pin point one area that is any better or any worse than the other. We were suppose to have an offense that could score at will againsts any Big 10 team, and make them play our game, not us playing there way...........remember that from Frost in his hiring spoo. Well its year two, I don't see any Big 10 team thats scared of Nebraska and its offense. The whole thing is out of whack.
  25. The defense did do enough for 3 quarters in that game for us to cruise to a victory. Our offense couldn't do a thing right for at least a quarter and a half. This game should have been over at the half. At 28-0 nothing. Should have our defense stepped up when needed, yes. Should have they at least been able to make one stop when it counted, sure. My issue is this offense should be able and capable of scoring 30- 40 points a game. We were up 10-0, and stalled out on several chances to get things done. Didn't happen. Defense is not built to shut out teams. Not many are in the nation.
