  1. I understand those who are tired of blaming the players for why we are sub standard at best, but we have hired and fired enough coaches and constantly doing that hasn't worked out at all either. At some point as a fan base we need to admit we are not getting or attracting the right player for this conference and region. We can't undo the things that have lead to us being what we are now. Have we ever even fielded a real Big 10 team yet? Our best seasons in the Big 10 were with Big 12 recruited players. So the notion we don't have Big 10 players seems mislead as well. Were just not attracting the right players or good enough players to make a real difference yet. Can Frost get those guys? Can anyone get those guys? Scheme is just what it is. Players go out and practice it each day and should have it mastered. If for some reason after 8 games we have players playing out of position, then its a lost cause and time to move on to player B. Man, watched K-State take it too OU today, with just a standard run first offense and really good O-line and a basic standard defense that was getting pressure with 3 linemen. Is it all coaching or is it better players.............Kansas even won tonight.
  2. Completely dessimate this roster and start from scratch. Blow it up now. I like Frost and will keep liking him. I think he can be the guy who gets things going. I don't know if he can get things going with what he is doing right now. If we don't have the talent on either side of the ball to do the things he wants to do, then its ok to do what they can do.
  3. Now, I will say that if Frost doesn't adapt to the Big 10, this may not work. Adapt on both sides of the ball. That either happens with recruiting the right players or coaching a style that we can recruit too. Right now we are watching players, play in an offense that most weren't recruited to do. So many unknowns right now. Is it the coaches or is it the players who just can't do what the coaches are asking..............Is it a combo of all of it?
  4. We just one notch above Kansas right now in terms of talent and product on the field. Don't care what the recruiting numbers say, just watching whats on the field for both teams and truthfully we not that far above them in terms of anything. Is that all on coaching? I don't think so.
  5. Yeah fire Frost. He will go to another school win 10 or 11 games and make our whole state look like silly hillbillies once again. Keep firing coaches and you can bet we never sniff the west division. Since 2003 we have fired and hired all the wrong people and keep repeating. For the first time since Solich we hired the best available coach to come here. Unfortunately, even flesh and blood Nebraskan can't keep the Big Red nation from wanting someone else already. Be pissed we lost today. Be mad we still suck 1 1/2 years into a new coaches era. Be pissed we left our natural roots in the Big 12 for this conference where we don't belong directionally and traditionally. This university has gone above and beyond to make this football program get back to the promised land. Everything except give any one coach enough time to get things righted. Lets continue on that trend, its done so much for us already!
  6. We don't have the players people. You can coach, scheme, and whatever else, and that don't matter if the kids don't make the plays. Is our scheme flawed some, yes. Is our offense lacking in all areas, yes. Is our defense an issue, yes. So is our special teams, our whole damn program is lacking in every area.
  7. Without any sort of offensive line play, it won't matter who plays QB or WR or RB. Watched K-ST dominate OU today because they have a line who can bulldoze. They don't run the spread, and scored 48 today. So until we have any kind of line play, nothing else matters
  8. Frost inherited the worst turn around in college football.............. What does that mean and why was this said? Does this mean anything? I would think of a few reasons why this job could be viewed that way, but don't understand the phrase. I mean our fan base alone can sour alot of normal people away from this place...........Nebraska,, not for everyone!
  9. I think we will get there in year 3 or 4. If you look at other teams not named OSU or Wisky, that have made coaching changes, they all for the most part struggle in the first couple of seasons. Usually they do pull and upset or two, but lose games they should not be losing. Schemes are just schemes. If you talent, the scheme won't matter. Speed is the great equalizer. Power is the great maximizer. We are midway in both of those phases right now.
  10. Jumping in at midway here, but admitting that there is a talent issue isn't an uncommon issue when your school or team is constantly hiring and firing coaches. It seems like a death sentence for any diehard Big Red fan to admit we don't have the horses in the stable to play 4 quarters of ball against thoroughbreds from other schools. I do question schemes and player fits on this roster. I have wondered if 3 yards and a cloud of dust would have been better for winning some games, but it wouldnt have beaten the Buckeyes, and probably woudn't have beaten the Gophers. Might have gotten Colorado. So is an one game improvement enough to justify playing down to our current level, or is trying to showcase the future a better option.
  11. Where do you suggest he starts if he were to reconsider things right now? Not coming back to here come to mind if I were in his shoes right now! Special teams to me boils down to one or two players who just shouldn't be on those. Spielman and Washington don't have enough confidence to field either kickoffs or punt returns. Speilman looked like he was scared all night long. Washington was so hesitant on each carry, i think most of us could have tackled him tonight. Seems to me that this team got hit in the mouth tonight and had no fight in them. Thats hard to coach.
  12. What is really one of the biggest factors in recruiting is alot of these kids don't care about winning a Natty, they are going any where they can go to play right away and impress the scouts. If that means going to UCF over Florida and sitting on the bench, thats the route taken. We need to start getting some local kids and build them up to have kids here that care, and then they will inforce that in our more skilled players from across the nation. Kids still like winning, but they like the spotlight just as much.
  13. Its time to sit some guys. Its time to move on from others, if we can do that without burning RS. Sure, if we have some RS to burn for the final remaining games, use those 4 games up, but we are not winning anything this year. Keep some of those RS for the bowl game as well so we see more after a few more practices in December. This staff is building for the future, not just this season or maybe even next season, but the future. Sure I think most coaches could go the Juco route and build for one season and do pretty good, but if your going to build for every season, it takes time to build those blocks the right way. Dr. Tom took a few years to get things established, but once it was, it was 16-17 years of being a contender. Thats what were looking for.
  14. Frost was given a 7 year deal. It might take all 7 years to get back, but being this disgruntled already in the mid part of year 2 is kind of cry baby like. We have had opportunities to hire elite coaches, and for some reason they never rang the bell to even inquire about it. Not a one. Frost is the closet thing to that to happen thus far. Maybe Frost isn't that guy, but to a man, each person in this site and that sit in that stadium during Riley's last season wanted Frost here based on what he was doing at UCF. Its time to find some form of patience.
  15. This will all change in 2 more seasons. We need at least 2 more recruiting seasons to gain some momentum. Until then, temper the expectations. We just don't have the horses yet. Why burn redshirts for winning the West side of the West division. Win 2 more games, make a bowl game, and then build on that for the next season.
  16. Add Penn St to that mix of elite Big 10 teams.
  17. I do think that more power based game is good, but Ohio St runs the spread with power players. I think thats what Frost has envisioned for this program. We just need the players for this process. I think in games against South Alabam or North Illinois or Illini, power football would win easy. I don't know if we can compete with Michigan, Ohio St, or Wisky playing just smash mouth football out of the I-Formation.
  18. UCF reference is to the fact that many in Husker nation assumed that since Frost went on a complete turn around from year 1 to year 2, it would happen here. Not the case, and I think most didn't think it would be the case, but were wishing it was.
  19. I am sure Frost would also say that he is a victum of his own success while at UCF. That was great for him and UCF, but that won't and hasn't translated to the Big 10. If my memory serves me correctly, Osborne tried to pass the ball more in his first few years as well and ended up going to the power game. I think that in time, Frost will adapt to a more physical style of play as well. Power football is the Big 10, and right now we are not on that level. SEC is power football first then some finesse if needed.
  20. Don't you think that maybe this isn't the year thats been earmarked as "the year". Getting guys on campus, building them up, and then maybe getting them on the field is the thought process? I think when Frost was given a 7 year deal, it was discussed and those in the process all agreed that if in 7 things are not better, then things wouldn't get better. I don't think it will take 7 years to get things going, but I have and always have thought it would take at least 4 years to get things going. Forget about UCF going undefeated in year two of that process cause that wasn't against Power 5 teams week by week.
  21. Yes sir, Amart made some bad throws, bad throws under pressure. Its all correlated. Bad snaps, bad line play, forces any QB to do things they wouldn't normally do or attempt. Running for some space to throw usually causes issues eventually.
  22. I posted this on a different thread, but it starts with recruiting for the trenches. Once we recruit Big 10 lines on the O-line and D-line, things will change. We have enough skill position players to compete, but they can't compete if our QB can't throw to them. We have RB's who can run the ball, but not with no holes to run thru. We have decent DB's and LB's, but no D line to let them do there thing. It wouldn't mattered tonight if we had Tom Brady and Jerry Rice, not enough time to throw the ball down field.
  23. Its culture, its talent, its a number of things, but it all starts with talent and recruiting. For crying out loud we have tried many different coaches now and each coach has sucked in some way or another. Frost has the brightest future of any since Solich. Talent on the trenches is where it starts at, not QB, not RB or WR. Its your O-line and D-lines that support and build your programs. Simple. If we can't recruit those players to this program, we won't ever have a chance to compete with Ohio St or Wisky.
  24. Fields was the #1 quarterback recruit coming out of HS. He sure looks the part to me.
  25. Amart is not progressing like I think we would like him too. I have two takes on that matter. 1. After the amount of high snaps he has had to go and get and then try and run the play called, he can't find a rhythm. 2. We don't have an offensive line. Amart can't even read past his first read and he is getting hit or pressured.. So maybe he has improved, but some pieces around him have not. I am sure in practice he can make all the throws, but thats not game like pressure.
