  1. Exactly. His, "this is on me" portion was a bit over the top in my book. We all know it's not on him. It was more an awkward attempt to say exactly the opposite of what Scott would have said and what a coach "should" say.. Even so, a bit disingenuous. I mean, I don't care, but it didn't leave me thinking, "Oh, this guy is a master." Polished speaking/saying the right things test... Urban won it in spades today. The difference is night and day between learning on the job and been there done that. I don't have the stomach for another learning on the job project.
  2. I'm guessing you overshot that by 2-3 wins.
  3. Which means that Utah was actually in the Mountain West conference. It is part of why I am leery of Campbell and his just over 500 record. As a coach, you are what your results are. Anymore, in college football, the team you coach is playing other similar level teams. So, your prowess as a coach is what it is. You win a lot of games in the Sun Belt, chances are you could win games at a more major conference, although that is not a given.. You go .500 in the Sun Belt, chances are you aren't going to do a lot better in a major conference. Urban did it in a lot of conferences. If I'm betting, I'd put my money on that.
  4. Good thing Scott put the last 5 years in building the groundwork.
  5. So we could meet with Urban this morning.
  6. I don't want him either but there are seriously no other options out there unless we want to risk another 4-5 years only to end up with our wands in our hands again. We need players, lots of them. The kind and quality we need are ONLY coming here if we can convince them our coach will put them in the NFL. The only coach that can do that at this time is Urban. We need to sell tickets. The only coach that immediately sells tickets at this point is Urban. We need respect. The only coach that brings immediate program respect in his suitcase is Urban. We need expertise at the HC position. Like, Big10, high level program, title contending expertise. Who brings that? You guessed it.. Urban We need a system gutting. You know who wouldn't think twice of gutting the mess at north stadium? Urban We need real S and C... Urban knows S and C Now.. If I am Urban. I laugh at your face when you ask if I'm interested. But. He's our guy if we don't want to feel this pain for the next decade.
  7. Honestly, seeing this team today. It doesn't matter who the coach is next year. This team isn't going anywhere positive anywhere soon. You couldn't gut it fast enough.
  8. I think at this point the only one I would really be excited about is MJ and he crushes it. That is how impossible a situation we are in. Glad I'm not actually the one responsible for coming up with an answer for our situation.
  9. The good news is, Chin's defensive philosophy is based on creating the takeaway. The bad news is.. It never really has.
  10. Somebody like a Bo pelini. I know Bo isn’t coming here, but surely there are people out there with expertise that are not currently employed. And certainly a lot of them will probably better for Mickey than Chinander. My question is. Can it be done? Not, is it likely to happen. Can he call his cousin/buddy Gus and offer him 400k to come DC for him if he wants to?
  11. I know everybody would like one thing or another, and I know there is something to be said for trying to remain as stable as possible during an early season shake up like this. That said, this is Mickey's audition. In a perfect world, it goes way better than planned and he's the next Nick Saban/Ed O combination that delivers NU to the promised land for years to come. In a less perfect world, he does well enough to land a HC gig somewhere else after NU brings in Urban or whatever god of coaching we can bring in. At the end of the day, all of it works best if Mickey is allowed to try to salvage the team the way he sees fit. So.. The question is. If he were to can Chin, does he have to promote from within or could he bring in an entirely different defensive mind for his DC?
  12. You mean the entire list outside of Faux Pelini? Ugh. We are hopeless.
  13. I’d bet it’s because he’s planning on cutting the program altogether….
  14. From everything I actually know about frost and Chin’s level of class and professionalism, there’s no way Mickey can keep Chins around. There would be too much mud clouding the water, and that’s even IF Chins was coaching at a world class level. Not sure what options exist for Mickey, but I can’t see any way of making it work with Erik around.
  15. Urban or Stoops would be about the only ones they could have already.....
  16. I guess it's the fall off that has me convinced he wasn't our answer either. I feel he was falling off while here as well. Good coaches don't get boat raced several times a year. He just wasn't a Nebraska level coach in my opinion, and that has been shown over the years following his career as well. Just because we have hired even worse coaches along the way, doesn't mean he should have been retained.
  17. Bo has not garnered sustained success anywhere in his career. He was trending down every year he was NU's head coach. It's easy to look back more fondly from our current cellar dweller position at those years, but he wasn't the answer for our program any more that Billy C was or Mike Riley. All of them took over the program and watched it slip under their watch, more and more. Of all the failed coaches, Frank was the only one I think would have been better to keep in the long run than to let go. He may have been ok had we taken the recruiting aspect out of his hands and dedicated and entire department to supporting him in that regard. What a novel idea. As a program, we do actually deserve better than we've gotten over the past 10+ years. Not because we are pre-ordained to be good, but because we are committed and devoted to it. The coaching professionalism and quality need only match the program's dedication. It doesn't mean we are champions year in and year out, but it should equate to less complete embarrassment and folly.
  18. Because after 20 years we all know that nobody real or good is coming here. Either our guys are not committed enough to bring them in or we don't offer enough upside to motivate power coaches to want to take on the challenge. One way or the other, the big brain coaches are not going to don the scarlet and cream, that we all feel in our poor, miserable souls. I'm sure he can go on administrative leave for a few weeks or something.
