  1. huKSer makes a great point. We'll have no choice but to call you "ED" from now on.Maybe I can use that to finagle some little blue pills out of my doctor.
  2. I said a couple of them were bat sh#t crazy, because they truly were. I didn't say everyone. My post was not necessarily aimed at you. It's just that some people will take a phrase like "illegal immigrant" and then respond as if you had only said "immigrant". I thought somebody might've read bat sh#t crazy feminist without applying the adjectives. I also thought that you had possibly ignored the peaceful part of protest when you said you were against all protests. But you have already explained why you were against these particular protests. Personally I'm on the fence a bit about some of these recent events. I too think there may be a lot of hysterics for little reason but I also recognize that many of the concerns come from a good place and may be well founded. I'm of the position that time will tell but I'm not going to deny people the opportunity to express their fears and feelings. If I've learned anything in the past 8 years, and especially this last year, it's that it does no good to ignore or marginalize the serious concerns or feelings of those you may not agree with.
  3. Words matter. "Peaceful" is a key descriptor. "Bat sh#t crazy" is another one. Just like "illegal" is an important word in the immigration discussion.
  4. I understand and respect not agreeing with some of the things being supported or protested but I want to focus on that very first statement- a huge opposition to protesting. Do you acknowledge the difference between a peaceful protest and a violent destructive one? I'm just curious if you are opposed to all protests, of any nature, or if it's just the ones that tend towards property destruction and violence. The right to peaceful assembly is one of the pillars of our democracy IMO. That is why I typically take a hard line against groups and people that turn them into non peaceful events.
  5. You've gotta be really happy, like I think most all of us are, with the steadily decreasing abortion rate then, right? It's now down below initial Roe V Wade numbers, which is awesome news. Certainly the numbers are trending the right direction but I wouldnt characterize my feelings as "really happy". There are still a boatload of abortions happening for the wrong reasons. So, more progress sure can be made. But I don't want to get this thread off on the abortion tangent. We all know how those go. Ha, maybe that's what we need this off season, another abortion mega thread.
  6. Moiraine and NM, thanks for explaining what these events were for the participants. Unfortunately some of the national news coverage I've seen is trying to spin them in a little different direction. Typical media behavior I guess. Sounds like it was a positive experience for you NM. That's great. I've just never been very inclined to march or protest anything. Too lazy I guess. But I think it's great that people can do it in this country, especially when they do it peacefully and it is generally positive in nature.
  7. Which is?Their candidate lost, get over it. It's not about a lost election. Get a clue. So clue me in please.Apparently they were in support of women's rights, particularly the right to choose an abortion. I thought they were going to be more anti-Trump in nature and that is how the news is presenting them, as the other side of the coin to the inauguration crowds. But, since organizers apparently rebuffed anti-abortion women's groups from participating, it would seem they were primarily about abortion rights. IDC, as long as they were peaceful and it appears they were. Great thing about this country, we all have the freedom to peacefully protest. Personally I have some problems with the prevalence of abortions in this country but I sure won't try to deny them the right to express their views.
  8. Yes, and it sounds like Diaco is all about everyone (players, coaches and ga's) learning and improving every day. I particularly liked what he said about wanting the ga's to learn and improve so that they are better positioned to get jobs in the future. Seems like the type of organization that would attract the best and brightest.
  9. Yeah, it makes it really tough to have a well reasoned discussion when somebody provides so many examples that disprove their position and yet they fail to see or understand it. Kind of drives me nuts when the facts are so obvious and yet they don't get it. I really wanted to engage him further but I just didn't see the point when 2+2 was not equalling 4 for him.I do feel the comment knapp made was a little out of line and baited him in to that type of response. Hopefully that is considered and neither is given a vacay. Unless of course there have been prior warnings for that type of thing... Posters have to learn when to let those little personal shots go. Again, I don't see how it was personal at all. The guy said nobody on earth is like his grandpa anymore. What knapp said equates to saying he just hasn't met them. I'm not going to claim Elf's prior tone didn't beg for the shot but I read it as "apparently you aren't the man your grandpa was". I think most people would interpret that as a personal shot, especially when they had just expressed such admiration for the man. But, in a sense you're right. Very skilled and articulate posters have been known to take those types of shots while leaving some room for innocent interpretation. There is more in the background influencing my thoughts but I'm not going into detail. Let's just say I understand why the shot was taken. Thus why I hope neither of them is punished for it. Like we say at work when something inevitable happens; you'll have that on a job this size.

  11. As I have said many times, many important details should have their own thread to discuss in detail. I, like many casual members, are not going to weed through a giant be everything megathread to catch the latest news. I do not care at all if there are giant threads at all. To each his own, but if a member would like to break down a specific detail or comment of which someone said, they have every right to do so without fear of being called out. Simply don't reply. This^. It's not like the Internet is at capacity. Plus, IMO, there will never be enough El Diaco topics.
  12. JJHusker has served me well for 13.5 years but I think it's time to go all in with the new DC. If all goes well, he could be the heir apparent for when Riley decides to step down.
  13. Don't bring me down, Disco Bob.

Bwahaha! I wondered who this new member El Diaco was. Nice name change. Very nice!

  14. I would like to change my name to El Diaco. Please make it so. Thank you.
  15. Really liked everything he had to say. Am excited to see this new scheme and philosophy on the field. One let down though. He didn't say a bunch of crazy off the wall sfuff. That crazy crap Bob Diaco says thread is likely to suffer. I am disappoint.
  16. Where's my horoscope? Bait & switch at its finest.
  17. Well 2 of them would be Trump not committing to accept the results of the election when he did and the other would be protestors destroying stuff. There are plenty more wrongs that could be listed but those were the 2 that were on my mind at the time. I"m tired of Trump supporters claiming nobody would be protesting if Hillary would have been elected. Yeah, me too. I'm glad I didn't say that.
  18. I don't, sorry Well dangit. How am I going to satiate this man crush? Haha! He is a cool speaker and excited. Maybe check YouTube? I just re-watched it by clicking on the video in the OP. Thanks. That didn't work for me the first time but it's good now.

  20. Looked into it a few years ago. The time and cost was nowhere near where you would think it should be, especially if there is more than one person travelling. I'll keep driving the 8 or so hours.
  21. Does anybody know where a guy can view this press conference now that it's over? Couldn't find it at Huskers.com

  23. People get cancer diagnoses out of the clear blue sky. And then what do you do? Just not accept healthcare? Accept it, run debt up into the hundreds of thousands of dollars (two different family members have had cancer costing over two hundred thousand in healthcare), and then either spend the rest of your life in debt? Or you die, and your family is burdened with that debt? What's the solution there? You're OK with going into lifelong debt, not accepting healthcare you can't pay for, or passing that debt along to your kin? Why, when every other first-world nation has figured out how to treat their citizens without them going into debt? Why should America/Americans be uniquely burdened like this? Funny that you mention cancer. My grandma died from cancer when my dad was 11 years old. My grandpa would hear of a rumor of a new cure for cancer so he'd pack up grandma in the car and take off. He racked up a debt of over $250,000 in the late 40's/early 50's. He was a blacksmith and he still managed to repay every penny. Grandpa believed that you do what it takes to pay your debt as long as its honest work. They just don't make men like grandpa anymore. I'll ask that if things in America aren't to your liking, and you already know where things ARE to your liking, why have you not moved? Its a serious question because it's what I would do. Sorry Elf, that is pure bullsh#t. People should not have to go broke and work their whole lives to pay off medical care debt. There has to be a better way. What your Grandpa did was noble and to be commended but it shouldn't be required.
  24. We had a good broker prior to the ACA, and I still consult with them from time to time when I have questions even though I am no longer purchasing anything through them (although I very well may be again soon). We literally looked at every plan available and for the last few years, Anthem BCBS was the best available for our very small group. A lot of the problem was that our group was fairly old (nobody under 40...) with no young pups to help balance it out. And now that I am in the Colo health exchange, I compare every available plan every year and so far, Kaiser has been my best option. I have no idea what they are like in the small group market but they are the best (at least premium wise) for my particular family situation. I would disagree with placing all the blame on insurance companies simply because they could raise premiums at will. All you need to do is look at how much healthcare costs have increased to see that a good portion of those premium increases were well founded. I won't say insurance companies had no hand in it or weren't greedy and bloated but they sure aren't the only ones to blame. Physicians making money extremely out of line with what normal folk earn, drug companies charging outrageous amounts for drugs and the FDA helps protect them doing it, all of the cover your ass testing providers do- necessary because of the prevalence of lawsuits, uninsured care costs being passed on to people who actually have insurance, lots of people who run to the doctor or emergency room every time they get a sniffle, layers and layers of paperwork and bureaucracy in hospitals and insurance companies. There are a bunch of reasons why the costs are out of control. The only one of these that the ACA began to try to address was stipulating that a certain percentage of their expenses had to go directly to patient care rather than layer upon layer of managers etc. But we all know how they get around that kind of "sounds good" bs. I do agree that it cannot be a free and open, for profit, industry. When the only choice you have is spend the money or ignore your health, it can't be. The system is completely f#cked up and broken. Whatever replacement they come up with, they need to maintain a mandate for coverage, continue covering all pre-existing conditions, have no lifetime cap, find a way to get everyone covered and then fix the real problem which is costs and premiums that are ridiculously out of control. It's been that way for a long, long time and it only has gotten worse since the ACA. A good start would be an overhaul of the FDA and their protectionist policies that let drug makers gouge us forever. All of the problems will be fixable if they just figure out a way to rein in costs. The big challenge will be doing that while maintaining accessibility of care. Sorry, I'll stop my rant now before I get really carried away.
  25. I know, right? Who would be so petty as to not respect our nation's tradition of peaceful transition of power? Wrong + Wrong = Right?
