  1. Uh-oh. I know, I know. That's why I worded it that way. Just re-seal that lid and put it back on the shelf.
  2. You might be right. I haven't actually looked into who he is, I just was under the assumption that he serves under the Catholic church. Come on Landlord, give us at least a little credit. You assumed he serves under the Catholic Church? Why, because his title in the video was "high priest"? I can categorically state that the crap this guy was spewing is not indicative of the Catholic faith in any way, shape, or form. I haven't researched who he is either but, if he does in fact happen to be some rogue, run off the tracks, Catholic priest, he won't be for very long. The hierarchy of the church might screw up and protect some guys when they shouldn't (we all know what I'm talking about) but they won't put up with this sh#t for one second after they find out about it. Every denomination has their whack jobs who don't get it and do more damage than good. However, I think you need to better understand Catholicism before you go attributing such a harsh view of it. Sure, there might be some very minor differences of some specifics between Catholics and some Christians in general but, we are on the same team whether you like it or want to admit it or not.
  3. I didn't say the atheists who comment here didn't have a grasp of the religion. I also would not disagree that a good many atheists grasp it better than many self proclaimed Christians do. Grasping it and/or understanding what it means to be Christian is quite different from actually being one, believing it, and practicing it. My point was that this "high priest", or whatever moniker he chooses to go by, apparently does not believe in the basic tenets of the religion, has got some things screwed up along the way, and if he is preaching this BS to his congregation, is leading people astray from the real message of Christianity. So, no need to say "Sorry JJ" because your subsequent comments were addressing a purported claim that I never made.
  4. No f'n way this bill is real or that it passed. That's about the craziest thing I've ever read.
  5. Landlord- just my two cents but I'm not sure I get your being upset with this jackass. He is no more a priest than I am. He is not a Christian and his "church" bears no resemblance to any viable Christian denomination. He is simply some self enlightened blow hard that likes to wear a collar. He bothers me no more than any other atheist attacking Christianity. About the worst thing you can say about him is that he might be leading some people astray and away from Christ and God. That's not good but it differs little from about half the people who regularly comment in this forum. I think you're giving him way more authority and relevance than he deserves. My dog has a better understanding of Christianity than this douche.
  6. I agree that the shear number of players running afoul of the law in this case is alarming and may very well be evident of a win at all costs philosophy. But, it is much more of a societal problem than any one program or one coach. Why should a college football coach have to play surrogate parent? Seems to me these coaches number one job should be to run winning and clean football programs. Recruit, teach/coach, and win games. Maybe their responsibility for keeping the program clean needs to end with eliminating the trouble makers. I know TO and the NU program in general have tried to do more than that, preparing these players to be good citizens and much more than football players (and I'm proud of that) but, lets face facts. Winning at college football requires recruiting a bunch of kids that come from less than ideal circumstances. Many of them are going to stumble regardless what the HC tries to do (witness LP). I don't think we can expect to have our cake and eat it too. I don't much care for Urban Meyer but I also can't crucify him because so many of his players ended up in trouble. I think we need to place a higher expectation on parents and society in general and put less on these guys that already have their hands full trying to put a winning product on the field. What other profession do we hold the boss accountable for what their charges do? Not many.

In an interview with the June 18, 2011 edition of the NME, Donovan was asked what the song was actually about? He replied: "Quite a few things. Being mellow, laid-back, chilled out. 'They call me Mellow Yellow, I'm the guy who can calm you down.' Lennon and I used to look in the back of newspapers and pull out funny things and they'd end up in songs. So it's about being cool, laid-back, and also the electrical bananas that were appearing on the scene - which were ladie...

I always wondered if that song was about vibes.

  8. Ah, I see. Hernandez was held to the same lax standards as the rest of the Florida team. Well that clears that up.
  9. Made knapp's shrimp tacos about a week ago. Very good-highly recommend. Ever since then I've been hankering for more griiled shrimp so tonight I picked up some colossal shrimp, marinated them in a bottled chipotle lime marinade (only about twenty minutes prior to grilling). They were absolutely fantastic. I couldn't believe how much spice and flavor they picked up in such a short time. The whole family loved them.
  10. I can put him ahead of Thorpe because..............I'm a Husker fan and I feel like it. *even if it might be wrong* This round of voting got a lot tougher awful quickly...
  11. Not really. "Politics," imo, carries a domestic affairs connotation. When I hear "politics" I think elections, domestic policy, politicians, etc. Egyptian opinions and the conditions in Egypt are awfully far down that list if they're on it at all. Well I guess that explains the disconnect between my politics comment and a couple of the rather strange responses to it. I sure didn't intend to throw a monkey wrench into the discussion.
  12. Not sure how you get there from here . . . Why? Do you not view our foreign policy and meddling in other countries affairs as part of our politics? I do.
  13. Shame on you. Talking football with a CU fan and expecting anything he says to make sense. Not gonna happen. What's next? Gonna challenge a quad to a foot race? CU fans are "special" and always need to be approached and treated as such. It's really not their fault, just look at their program and compare it to a real football program and their confusion becomes more understandable.
  14. Correct, but I'm not a mind reader. Perhaps JJ would be better situated to answer the question that you had asked me. Sorry fellas, been busy with softball the last few days. The "things" I was talking about were conditions in Egypt and the perception of US foreign policy in that part of the world. So, while our economy and some social issues may be showing signs of improvement, those things really have nothing to do with this issue. But whatever....
  15. Out of curiosity, how many people from that part of the world do you know? Zero. My opinion of what people from the Mideast think of Americans is pretty much based on what I see on the news and the relative ease they seem to have recruiting terrorists that hate us enough to do what they do. I am equally sure there is a contingent of people that appreciate some of what the US stands for and represents. I am not saying that you are not right or that your relatives accounts are questionable. It just strikes me as being a lot more fair and level headed than what usually comes from that section of the globe.
  16. They don't care about "our politics." They want to be a sovereign nation without U.S. meddling. That's a U.S. foreign policy issue, not internal politics. They don't have an axe to grind with Obama any more than they would with Romney or Bush. I have family in Cairo. The Egyptians are more pissed about the manufacturer's name on the canisters of teargas the police are using than the name of the guy in the Oval Office. And they don't dislike the American people one bit. When I said our "politics" I meant our foreign policy as regards their country and that part of the world. Of course they aren't interested in our internal politics. I agree that it doesn't matter if it's Obama, Bush, Romney or whoever. That was the point of what I posted. However, I find it a little surprising that whoever made that sign in your picture is able to differentiate between Joe Blow American and our governmental leaders. If that is truly the case, the Egyptian people would be vastly different than the majority of the Middle East Muslim countries. Yeah, I know they are actually located in NE Africa....
  17. Maybe if we pretend that the Egyptian people are happy with our politics, then things will get better. Unfortunately, it isn't just our President that they are unhappy with and critical of. I would bet they don't differentiate between me, you, Obama, Dems, or Repubs. BTW, I wasn't all that excited, more like bored and burning up a little time before calling it a weekend.
  18. Now I went and did it.

I've been wanting to change for awhile. I put it off cuz the old one seemed to bother "someone" so it was worth the delay.

I really wanted to go with TO but didn't want to wallow in your shadow.

  19. I get the feeling that the average Egyptian on the street isn't impressed with the Obama administrations position on their country.
  20. Sorry, I was ignoring the "pregame" qualifier and just went with football traditions. And Bucky, ESFU doesn't qualify on any level except bad taste and crude behavior.
  21. What adjustments can he make though? Ones that would not allow guys to be in position? That's where I'm lost in this whole deal from an x's and o's standpoint. Everyone preaches adjustments this, adjustments that, but what more can the guy do? Honestly? The physical and mental development-or lack there of-is on him yes. No argument here. But at some point, guys have to have the want-to and/or tenacity to make a one-on-one play. Bo had guys that could, he has now had guys that couldnt. So obviously right now, a conclusion can be made than niether is indicative of his abilities. That's a very good question that I had not fully considered. I'm not a big X's & O's theory type of guy but I've got to believe there are things they can do scheme wise that could reduce the damage done when one guy doesn't make the play. Maybe some tweaks that will put more people in helpside positioning. IDK, I guess nothing will work if guys don't make the play that they are in position to make. I guess that's when it's time to get some new guys on the field and see who really wants it more. However, I do think it all starts up front and Bo has to get that DL making some plays. If/when the play breaks down at that point, everyone behind those guys is at a disadvantage. I just cannot take another season of watching our DL bumble around ten steps behind every play. I hate to pick on any one guy when it's a team effort but I will not miss watching Meredith waddle into the screen five seconds late. He's my poster boy for what has ailed our D.
  22. I won't attempt to re-order these but I would replace a few with others. Delete- Running Ralphie (if you want to be listed in traditions, don't suck so bad) The Tennessee T (I was not even aware of this one) The Auburn tiger walk (lame). Add- Tennessee singing Rocky Top (loved that at the 97 Orange Bowl-awesome) Sooner Schooner Tie for Wiscy's drunken jump around and Ohio State Band script Ohio dotting the i thingy that they get so touchy about.
  23. I'll partially agree with the assessment that it's not an X's & O's problem. Yes, we had guys in the right position often and they just plain failed to make the play. So, in a sense, that is not Pelini's fault. But, when it happens time after time after time, it is Bo's job to make the adjustments that allows our defense to be successful. It might've been a great scheme but, if we don't have the talent/athletes to make it effective, then it's the wrong scheme to be using. I am hopeful that maybe this year we will have the guys to make it work but even more hopeful that, if it doesn't work, that Bo has some tweaks that will make it a much more serviceable D.
  24. ^^^This. The blitzes have seemed few and far between because recently that has been the only way we can generate pressure. If the DL can generate some on their own, that will be a huge step for this D. Then, when we do bring a blitz, it will have that desired "oh sh#t" effect. A blitz is supposed to overload the offensive protection scheme, not makeup for lack of DL push and lack of speed. Hopefully we will be athletic enough to use the DL and blitzes in the proper manner.
