  1. Folks, there appears to be a fissure between the "don't change football" crowd & the "it's a danger to our youth" crowd. Listen, if you take the hard line that football should not be made safer, you are going to LOSE, and you might lose the whole game itself. Alternatively, if you use your senses and discuss democratically the changes that could be made, there is a shot we keep this great game from going extinct. Neck strength training, heads up football, & less contact throughout a season are a few thoughts. Don't be hard headed or you will be the cause for the extinction of the game of football. Ed Cunningham is generally a blowhard but just because he is concerned about player safety doesn't make him a liberal. Take off your tin foil hat, RED.
  2. Question, Why do Husker fans want to be like that? I do not necessarily think this is inclusive to just Husker fans. I think we are seeing it all across college football. A few examples to make my point; coaches are given only a handful of years these days to achieve some sort of measurable success or they are fired. Schools are ponying up record $$$ amounts to find the latest hot coach to meet their desires of achievement. In the case of Nebraska fans, many of us are emotionally invested in our team and we long for the glory days. We miss the days when Nebraska was feared, always went to a top bowl game and was highly ranked. It been just under two decades now since that level of success, and husker fans have grown impatient and fear slipping deeper into mediocrity. I think the one thing we can all agree on as Husker fans is that want success for our team.......but we all define success differently, and sometimes have opposing views on how to get there and the time it should take. that's not my question. My question is, why do Husker fans want to be like this? You make a conscious decision to have the attitude you have. There are lots of examples of where coaches take several years to realize the success they ultimately get. But, instead of supporting a staff that everyone knows is going to be here for at least a few years, some fans consciously decide they are NOT going to support them and do nothing but rip them constantly. So, to them, it's win now or screw you. So....my question is, why do Husker fans want to be that type of fan? To me, that fan is setting themselves up to be pissed off and miserable most of the time. Are you kidding me dude, what is wrong with you? You cherry pick a lead in statement and say "not my question" then ignore the rest of the post. I answered your question. I guess it was not what you wanted to hear or really didn't want an answer- only a platform to flame throw. You seem to have an axe to grind but you can find someone else to grind with. I read the rest of your post. You said that fans are emotionally invested in the team and are tired of waiting for a championship. But, no, that doesn't answer my question. People who are willing to give Riley 2-3 years are also emotionally invested in the team and tired of waiting for championships. But, some in the fan base choose to express constantly how impatient they are and how they demand results RIGHT NOW!!!! I'm saying, that is a conscious choice people make to be that way and my question is, why? Why do people consciously choose to constantly bitch and complain when they know for a fact this staff is going to be here for at least 2-3 years? I do find it interesting that some people sit and bitch and complain and in some cases simply insult and boo....etc. coaches and players. But, when their actions or opinions are questions...OMG...they get defensive. Kind of ironic. I find it interesting when people truly SIT and do or say nothing. They just shut up and accept their circumstances. Then they wonder how their lack of preparedness & in-action got them in their predicament. Then they find someone nowhere close to being the source of the original problem and place blame on them. As opposed to ironic, that's INSANE.
  3. Doing that didnt work well for the last guy. Thankfully Bo's focus on making good students is helping this coach get to a bowl game on 5 wins. Maybe MR should split his $150,000 bonus with Bo since that's the reason we qualify. They can say what ever they want about why BP was fired, he was fired because of the way he acted on the sideline, towards his bosses, towards the fan base and media. I was fine with his coaching and was very happy with the academic standards he set as a HC, but that type of personality is exhausting. If you have neve worked with or for someone like that you will never know. I have had a boss like that, it was like walking on egg shells all the time. One minute he was great and the next he would blow up about some stupid insignificant thing. If BP would have won 70+% of his games and had that type of academic record and a better additude about things, he would still be at Nebraska. He doesn't have to be the nicest guy in the world, he just needs to not be a big dick. ========================== As for expectations, I expect that our recruiting will improve. I expect that Mike Riley and staff will go back to the film room in the offseason and figure out how to win the close games, and dominate weaker opponents. Why would this still be an expectation for this coach in year +15? Some people act like this is MR's first year coaching. Bunch of excuse makers.
  4. It's the "nice" factor. No one wants the bad karma that comes with calling the nicest man in the world a football imbecile. Did I just do that? Anyway, I can apply it to the mating game as well. A person has to choose how they're going to be chosen by the opposite sex. Physical attractiveness or being nice. If you're 300lbs with acne you better learn how to be as nice as kermit the frog. If you're hot, you can be a jerk. Anybody think Riley is hot?
  5. OK fine. Zac Taylor. Any other easy questions? ha Frost as HC. Taylor as OC and coach-in-waiting? After that, Patrick O'Brien. We've already given him the starting QB job, might as well give him HC down the line as well.I think we're on to something here. FIFY Good move by Frost. I'm sure there are a lot of things a first time head coach learns by making mistakes. Rather it be at UCF. As opposed to a 62 yr old coach making same mistakes in his twilight years at DONU.
  6. He had 2 or 3 others that should have been intercepted also...like Tommy doesn't do that every game...
  7. Ha ha! Yeah, Cardale Jones was just your run of the mill third stringer. /sarcasm I doubt if there has been another college football team with a better 3rd team QB in the last twenty years. Cardale says hello from the bench this year via Tim Beck.
  8. URSS said "I don't expect them to change anything. They tried Fyfe and got burned badly so I don't expect them to experiment." So how did Fyfe flame any worse than Tommy did yesterday? At least 2 of the 5 TOs against Purdue were not his fault. Dod the D not give up 55 points? He got us close in the 4th with accurate passing. I don't get how a 1-game experiment is good enough for everyone to dismiss a kid with a good head on his shoulders. Is it the name Fyfe that you don't like? 'cause Iowa just won in Lincoln with a kid named Beat-hard.
  9. 6-6 is pretty easy to see happening. If ORE pounds us seat heated. WISC & OSU debacles & Riley is sitting on ashes counting the retirement fund we gifted him.
  10. another part of it is we played Michigan State. Yes, we are a .500 team that pulls an upset once in a while. Vintage Mike Riley. Exciting. Can you just go away already? You can only control you, partner. If you can't take the truth, it might be easier if you just don't log on.
  11. Steven Jackson was a finished project of Dennis Erickson's that Riley inherited and James Rodgers had was a wide receiver most of his career at Oregon State. Anyhow, glad to see at least one running back saying hello instead of good-bye. Bazinga!
  12. He must reply to all of these emails. That is awesome. I'm sure he's sitting at his desk right now waiting for email so he can provide his "generic canned response"come on people keep emailing him. I'm sure you're sitting on your arse doing NOTHING. Kinda like your boy Punk"E" did for a year after Bo asked to be axed. kinda like you sitting on your ass responding to this thread. you really make no sense. No sir, I took action as shown above while you sit around and watch a 62yr old, career .500 coach have "one more adventure" on UNLs dime.
  13. Arguments like this drive me crazy. When people say we can't hire Scott Frost or another coordinator to be our head coach because we don't want them to learn on the job or we surely don't want to gamble, I have two things to say to this nonsense: Tom Osborne was a coordinator who became head coach...who learned on the job...I think that hire turned out ok? MOST IMPORTANTLY---Every hire is a gamble! Nick Saban was a "gamble" when he was hired for the Miami Dolphins job. It didn't work out in Miami, but the "gamble" sure paid off for Alabama. Chip Kelly was a "gamble" when he moved from being an Oregon offensive coordinator to Head Coach. Turned out pretty good for Oregon. He was a "gamble" for the Philadelphia Eagles too...now how is that looking? My point is again: EVERY HIRE IS A GAMBLE! Scott Frost could very well turn out to be the exact coach we need at Nebraska at the right time. He also might not be able to turn it around. But we'll never know unless we take that "gamble." ...nothing in life is a sure thing. This
  14. I agree. The fan BASE will always be there. The johnny come lately, thirty-something, instant gratification fans are NOT the fan BASE "instant gratification fans are NOT the fan BASE" Says the guy on the internet telling the rest of the FAN BASE, who are also on the Internet.
  15. They will listen! I got a response from Hal: (Name Deleted) - thanks for your well-stated and thoughtful concerns, and I will share them. We are working the problem. Hal

Thanks for making a great point. That point? Riley's staff doesn't even understand football 101. Every, and I mean EVERY, person who understands football knows 3-4yd runs in the 1st half turn into 6-8yds in the 2nd half. Just basic common football sense. Riley and crew don't have that.
  17. I like #52's passion, but his statements lose all credibility when he comes out as a Boliever. This gives FireRiley folks a bad name.
  18. Thanks...one of the few beneficial posts in this thread. Here's what I wrote to all of them this morning: Hello - I am writing to let you know, as a life-long supporter of the Huskers, my concern regarding the current state of the football program. You can see for yourself what's happening on the field, I'm not going to recant it for you. My concern is we are not giving our young men a chance at a great experience during their most influential years. This applies to both players, who deserve a competent coaching staff and a generation of young fans who deserve the same pride in our state that I did(and do.) That's right, I want you to be aware how many individual's fandom you are losing in the next generation. I'm doing my best to pass it on but how can we promote the bad football that is being coached on the field? Please make changes accordingly so the football program WILL get better in the next 3 years. Thank You for Reading.
  19. Said the guy typing a response on the internet. Write a letter next time old timy.
  20. I just don't know if I can come up with enough adjectives to describe this apologist, loser, trolling post.
  21. I agree with this to some extent. But if you aren't paying attention to the 2 highly ranked teams in Omaha, you're in denial. Unfortunately, soccer and hockey are the topics at the water cooler in the state's largest city. Thanks Eichorst.
