  1. If you believe the talk and I'm not sure I do, we should expect to lose 4 DL this off season. I'd guess Collins and VV. not sure who the others are but lots of scuttle butt from parents saying there isn't any communication with coaches except a few who have been told they weren't sure where they fit. I would assume it might be the twins.
  2. I could be wrong, but I believe that in football, the scholarships are of e one-year renewable variety. It gives the coaches and players a chance to sit down and evaluate things after a season to see if the desire to renew the scholly is mutual. I do believe Delaney and the Big 10 have proposed full four year scholly agreements in the recent past as an alternative. It'd help mitigate the oversigning and more plentiful "cutting" of players from schollies in places like the SEC. The idea didn't get much traction, though. The logistics of moving to a full four-year scholly system would make it nearly impossible to recover if you miss on important guys or have a high number of busts that you then have to carry for a full college career. Thanks Dude for the explanation. That helps my understanding of what is going on. It does force the players to work hard and earn each year and I see the logic against a 4 year scholly - get a couple of busts at a key position like QB or RB and you might end up write off the rest of your career as coach at that university. Actually Nebraska committed to 4 year scholly's under Bo 2 years ago. So this is pretty crappy if they asked him to leave. They are having a hard time trying to fill the current class of 23. I don't think they need to have that number rise to 28 by running folks off. Anytime a staff is looking at taking a half a dozen JC players you know they're coaching for a quick fix to save their jobs rather than build a program.
  3. So, if he doesn't know the plays....oh hell....just give him the ball and it doesn't matter if he knows where he is supposed to go or what he is supposed to do. Great idea. There is a middle ground that can be found with coaches, especially ones who are imaginative on finding uses for all the talent on the roster. If Wilbon can't understand the entire playbook, then the coaches could work with him to create a package of plays that he can be successful in. Wilbon may have been the most physically gifted of all the RB's on NU's roster, but the coaches couldn't find any way to use him this year? Sooooo.....studying in the class room and keeping his grades up doesn't matter either? I have heard he had grade issues. If he has grade issues then I don't have a problem with the guy being benched. But, going back to the playbook issue, there are many coaches around the country that can find a package of plays that can be run by certain players. It's called "finding uses for your talent". The coach is limiting his roster if he has the mindset of "he has to know the entire playbook from cover to cover if he is going to play with me". I would go with the attitude of "what a player does know" rather than "what a player doesn't know". I think its been well documented through the year it was a pass blocking issue as much as anything. And when you pass 45 times in a game it is important to know. Its too bad because he's probably the best runner. Its also too bad our Oline wasn't held to the same standard that they have to know how to pass block to see playing time. It got better toward the end of the year but for a long time it was a disaster.
  4. He was just a little late reporting things. Nothing was going to happen when he posted the OP. Prior to the MSU game it was stated that if Nebraska lost there would be a changes made the following week. The speculation was that SE would be fired and HP retired early. That cooled some after the MSU upset. Current stance is that MR will be here at least 2 but most likely 3 years unless he has a year that is a 3 win season. As long as he's 5-7 or better he's ok for another season but most likely there would be a new AD. That sounds likely to happen after year one of HPs replacement regardless if MR is winning 10 games a year or not.
  5. Most former husker players don't really understand football. They know what they were taught but that might not be what's done in a particular system in place today. That being said I know Adam and his wife's family in Brule. He would probably be a good S&C guy based on the things he's had to do to rehab.
  6. I don't know about that...it actually makes me feel worse that we have the talent and ability to beat the Big Ten champions, yet somehow manage to lose 7 games. I'm definitely pulling for Sparty all the way, but I don't want our seasons to be defined by one major win against a highly ranked team followed by several losses. Yep. True Riley...er loser mentality.Finish sub .500 and beat the champs. Hip, hip, hooray. As old as these comments get. It's the truth. It's what Riley has done forever. Beat a giant, lose to puds. Meh. They don't get old. Negativity and cynicism are the spice of life. Riles has never been in a position that's as conducive to delivering championships as he has here, either. Last time he was was probably in Canada, and he did deliver one there. I for one still hold some hope. Tell that to Dennis Ericson.
  7. He was injured late in the season and had surgery. Other than that he was told almost every week he'd see touches and then he never played.
  8. Doing that didnt work well for the last guy. Thankfully Bo's focus on making good students is helping this coach get to a bowl game on 5 wins. Maybe MR should split his $150,000 bonus with Bo since that's the reason we qualify. I keep hoping NU fans will learn their lesson.... maybe a silly hope. I'm right there with you.
  9. Response? Sexual assault happened at his house and if you believe the rumors he was involved. Even if it started off consensual, i have no problem with how LPD handled the allegations. I doubt that his reasoning for wanting to leave... Damion Bennington said the accussed isn't on the football team. But TA is upset the coaches didn't publicly defend any of them.

  11. Yep. Surprised to discover they have one of the biggest weight rooms in the P12 (per this video: ) Yeah. The crap facilities thing wasn't exactly true. These things were all done more or less during MR's time there. They also had announced a big 42 million dollar face lift to the stadium. Having a relative play for MR at OSU I can tell you the place wasn't that bad. It wasn't the best but far from a hole like Boulder. The Truax Indoor Practice Facility built in 2001. The east side expansion of Reser Stadium completed in 2005 at the cost of $80 million. Continuing improvements to Protho Field. The Sports Performance Center opened in 2010 at the cost of $17 million. The Beth Ray Center for Academic Support completed in 2012 at the cost of $13 million. http://oregonstate.edu/ua/ncs/archives/2014/dec/osu-announces-plans-renovate-valley-football-center
  12. I heard the other day from someone close to the players it wasn't a person associated with the football team. I guess we'll see tomorrow.
