  1. Just curious what people have against O'Brian? I don't have him as my number 1 but I do think he is better than many that people have pined over. Any specifics or just don't like him because he isn't a sexy pick right now?
  2. I'm guessing he wasn't walking through many OL doorways as the receivers coach. I'm not sold on MJ yet but I do have confidence he can recruit to any position. He is a genuine guy that develops relationships quickly.
  3. When they are "ready" is up to the coach. 18 year old kids take that 6 figure education in exchange to play the game. It is really pretty simple- Refuse to play, lose the scholarship. These kids weren't worried about their muscle development...smh. They were trying to work the system because they are unhappy with the teams results and their role on the team.
  4. I understood from the get go that it was likely taken out of context to generate clicks... However it still can resonate in a bad way to anyone who doesn't get the context or understand it from that point of view... like 18-22 year old kids sometimes can. I think this situation is pretty fragile and it wouldn't take much for the team to just fold completely.
  5. Basically he had kids that were being used on special teams, etc, that didn't have as big of a role as they wanted so they asked to redshirt to preserve a year of eligibility. I honestly side with the coach on this one. You signed up to play for Auburn football and are likely getting a free ride to do just that, play football. It has always been up to coaching staffs when they red shirt or not. It is likely those kids planned to transfer so didn't want to burn the year but they were still taking that free year of education. BS entitlement imo.
  6. What message does that send to the current roster? We have quite a few high 3 star and 4 star players wearing the uniform. I would like to assume they are capable, just lacking in some development. Shouldn't the message be we need time instead?
  7. Not disagreeing with you really but maybe looking from a different perspective. We have an OC who has pretty much shown his colors here and in the past. He is who he is. I love the pass and think he does a good job scheming guys open on long plays. The question then becomes, is that the type of offense we see for Nebraska going forward into the future? Will it work to win us championships? I personally have my doubts. I think to win at the highest level in college football you have to have an OC with a creative mind that plays to the strengths of all parts of your team. Figure out ways to run the ball successfully, despite a weak O-Line. Figure out ways to control the ball for 3 or 4 minutes to close out a game. Scheme plays to protect your QB. I'll be the first to admit I don't study offensive play calling in detail. Many guys on here smarter than I am. Maybe I am not seeing the genius because of the situation? In any event, I don't think he has done enough to be the guy going forward, yet.
  8. Thanks for replying - just trying to understand the sentiments regarding keeping MJ. I personally don't think it makes sense but I can appreciate your opinion. I think it is reasonable to expect improvement during the season and I agree a lot with what Guy posted previously regarding him. In other words, I believe MJ still needs to prove he is the guy.
  9. You never answered me in the other thread. If he doesn't win another game in 2022, will you feel that way? What about 1 more?
  10. I get what you are saying but I struggle to believe midseason improvements can't be made. Time will tell I guess.
  11. Lol, some of you guys act like it is a revelation to pursue Juco kids to fill immediate needs. Most of the teams in the country do this this as needed.
  12. What would impress me more is if he figured out how to have a balanced offense that didn't count on a few home runs to score. I realize there are a lot of things in play this year but I haven't been impressed, at all, with the offense since Scott was let go. We are averaging 25 points per game (mainly on yolo bombs to Palmer) while those 4 defenses we have faced average allowing 28 points per game - (including the garbage games early where they blanked their opponents). Remove the weak non conference games and those teams are averaging well over 30 points allowed against them. Bottom line opposing defenses are holding us, on average, to well under their season averages while at the same time our defense can't stop anyone not named Rutgers. There is zero reason to retain Whipple imo.
  13. DS waits to do the announcement on time square immediately following the ball drop while Trev and Bounds sing Auld Lang Syne with an all acoustic band. Lol, in reality the only way the announcement gets pushed to January is if someone backs out and Trev is left scrambling to find someone else.
  14. We were doing the same the other night... 3 million per year base. 500k per win from 7-9 1 million bonus for wins 10-12 1.5 million bonus for conference championship win 2 million bonus for playoff appearance 4 million bonus for winning it all Potential total compensation = 15 million Total potential compensation for a coach not reaching the playoff = 9.5 million
  15. Better make your case now for mj. The next five weeks are going to be rough. If he didn't win any more games, you still think he is the guy? 1 more win? 2? I personally would need to see a significant turnaround in on field performance before I would even state that he should be in the running. 6 wins would be the benchmark imo. I like what he says but talk is cheap. He needs to win football games against arguably the weakest west competition nebraska has ever faced.
  16. Even crazier is the B1G west champion wouldn't even be bowl eligible.
  17. Ehhh hard to say. 0-2 wins makes the most sense but maybe MJ makes some improvements during the buy week that work. I voted one with the win coming against Iowa or Minnesota. Sure hope I'm wrong. The Illinois game looks bleak but if they find a way to win that game, my vote would change to 6 wins.
  18. Is it really though? I'm not sure we want to direct the next coach's decisions. Whatever coach we hire should get our full trust and be able to hire whoever they feel is best. I like mj but there should be absolutely no expectation about the next coach retaining him.
  19. I am told there is interest in Aranda but it far from a "done deal". Still interest in several coaches.
  20. I agree about MJ, especially if he wins a few more games. I like a lot of what he says and feel like he has a good following with the players. I just don't think race should enter into the conversation, even if it is just repeating others. I think too many people view the rah rah side of coaching as the most important. It couldn't be further from the truth imo. A good head coach has to be an excellent manager. There is so much to organize, so many to hold accountable, so many responsibilities to handle... If MJ gets the job the learning curve will be very steep.
  21. To those comparing Urban to Paterno, seriously people. I don't like him but that is taking it too far imo.
  22. It will be brought up because posters like you choose to bring up something to distract from the obvious reasons we shouldn't hire him. I like MJ but he is not qualified to be the head coach here at Nebraska, yet. Saying the first AD in Nebraska history to place a black head coach in charge will be in hot water for not hiring him full time is just plain ridiculous.
  23. Lot of mumbling that Kingsbury might get canned. Guessing he is Saban's next OC if that happens. Bob will take a head coaching job this year.
  24. Only 2 things will keep him from going to the league after this season - a bad injury or as Guy mentioned above, a very sweet NIL deal. Not sure where people are saying he didn't perform against Oklahoma? He had 10 receptions for 92 yards (almost 1/3 of our yards) and he was open on several other plays where he should have been thrown to had CT not been assaulted constantly. His worst game of the year was against Rutgers - 4 receptions for 64 yards. Again, he was open a lot but CT just couldn't get the ball to him. His pace will likely slow over the next 5 games but that will have a lot more to do with CT being pressured non stop than it will be about him being open.
  25. Georgia Southern just beat a top 25 ranked team Saturday. Today's college football isn't what it used to be. That is a pretty dang good offensive football team and we are not.
