  1. Wow, maybe holding them off for Fleming is more impressive than I thought.
  2. That would make sense. Feels like either that, or Miami is his dream school but he knows Nebraska is the better place to go. It's gotta be a tough call for a Miami kid to come here.
  3. I'm not listening to the commentary, who is the woman in the Miami gear in the stands they keep focusing on? Thought mom was in the track suit?
  4. That would be hilarious. Going for the old "pull a hat out of nowhere" trick but the hat is missing.
  5. Right and maybe he's not, I'm not a good talent evaluator. It's just funny how standard the responses in these situation are - and sometimes I'm sure they are accurate. I just don't know, so it all seems like bitter rationalization to me.
  6. Still watching this thread? Lol. May very well be legitimate, but there's the same "we dropped him" and a few "he doesn't look that great anyway" comments already.
  7. Yeah, they're doing the whole "obviously we cooled on him" and "his film really isn't that impressive" bit on their forums. Which we do too, it's just always funny to see.
  8. I kinda doubt that. Nothing against our staff, but what are they going to do - cold call other schools they know need OLBs/DEs? But he has time, and probably knew he was jumping the gun a little bit committing.
  9. I think the question is if roster flipping wasn't necessary, who should we have tried harder to keep?
  10. Right, I'm just scanning for taller receivers who have left. Riley didn't exactly stock the cupboard with those guys, so I have no idea who is being referenced either.
  11. The only one who comes to mind is McGriff, who had moved to OLB. Clearly wasn't the answer at receiver.
  12. I haven't seen anyone guessing Minnesota outside of this board. I think it's us or Wisconsin.
  13. I don't think that's in his nature as a competitor. And if that's what they were doing, they could've done it way more effectively - instead of freshmen playing their 4 games as role players, could've just started them for 4 games. I think internal expectations for this year were lower than fan expectations, but 5 wins was short of everybody's expectations.
  14. Eh, he was going to redshirt no matter what. The paying for a semester sucks, but this is the easiest ticket to a P5 scholarship for him and the easiest way to make sure the team is adding as much talent as they can for the coaches.
  15. I bet the remaining guys wait til Wednesday at this point - honestly surprised some of the recent ones announced instead of waiting. EDIT: I guess Payne is announcing tomorrow, so maybe 1.
  16. I don't disagree with you necessarily, and I am known to be delusional, but I might be more optimistic this year. Last year I was optimistic because of 1) Adrian Martinez, and 2) the second half improvement carrying over to year 2. Neither of those turned out as expected, for various reasons. This year I'm excited because of the young players who are developing, actual depth, and players' third year in a system which has at times looked very good. Less about one guy carrying the team, and more about a bunch of guys who can share the load. So probably not truly more optimistic, but similarly optimistic for what seem to be better reasons. But I do hit the kool-aid hard, so take that for what it's worth.
  17. I'm glad we got something figured out here. Feels like the kind of kid who could blow up at a smaller school, then embarrass us further by getting drafted higher than our DBs. But at the same time, you can't not take someone like Francois if he's coming - just gotta work the numbers to get both.
  18. Man, that shoulder injury did a number on him. Kinda had it in my head he wasn't a great tackler, but there are some nice sticks in the video before he got hurt and had to resort to literally slide tackling the Iowa TE. Excited to see him back at full strength again!
  19. That's what I thought too, but I don't see a DB of the year so I assume Jackson won that in addition to Defensive MVP. I'm not that surprised to not see Wan'Dale, but I'm betting he'll be a regular the rest of his career. Missing a couple games and parts of others makes it difficult to win season awards, and it took him a few games to get going. EDIT: LJS shows Bootle as DB of the year, so you're right winning Offensive/Defensive MVP removes you from the position group running.
  20. I think Damion is good, he just couldn't play long stretches at a time last year. Hopefully better equipped to do so this year. But grad transfer NTs of his caliber or better don't grow on trees. I hope ee get one, but seems like Ty is slated to play a lot there as well.
  21. Some unexpected choices there. Congrats to all! Is Snodgrass playing ILB still?
  22. Or maybe it's easier to look like the "faster blinker" when your package of plays are all single reads. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited about Luke and Martinez did not have a phenomenal year. But I don't see any evidence the coaches kept playing Martinez out of sheer stubbornness - people just don't want to believe that was our best option.
  23. Is this the first non-sarcastic call for Smothers to start?
  24. Little early for that. I'm concerned we haven't heard anything about Alston yet, but he's just a redshirt freshman. And nobody expected Graham to contribute this year.
