  1. I understand my friend the differences.. however the premise as I stated is there are Allot of HS super studs that play QB and stay on the field and play defense.. Adam Carricker is just one example of a HS QB + other positions.. my premise was simply recruit talent and then train appropriately what you have them to be.. can’t put talent and aptitude in a player but said player can be taught the techniques of a position... class C schools are littered with players who never come off field.. they also bring what’s been lost over the years.. mental toughness
  2. ...just a solid athlete, perhaps a HS RB who doubles as a QB are everywhere in small schools around country...an athlete can be taught to throw..as needed look at tommie Frazier as object example...probably the best arm of all TOs modern 1990/1997) QBS...people forget how, well touchdown tommie could actually throw..those boot legs were the worst nightmare for defenses....
  3. ...it’s probably likely and best to just start a true freshman that they nab that has altheictism, Lee couldn’t run Riley’s failure of a offense, no way he has althetic ability to run..he couldn’t even scramble for 3 yards..
  4. ..I’ve been looking to see if Phillip has been told to pound sand yet...anyone heard...? His 45% body fat linemen is a stand-alone metric itself, on top of the obvious evidence the whole country already saw..no core push power whatsoever...and Our D line get shoved to side like a HS JV squad...I heard all the hype about stoltenburg in offseason how “strong” he got...BS..he gets moved aside like a tree that looks the part but has NO trunk whatsoever..
  5. Not enough space to address this OP...I can’t figure how a former player under Bear Bryant didn’t learn some things about methods/requirements of effective leadership..MR Riley is so far under qualified as organizational leader..can’t discern the root problems and thus remedies during his whole career...this ability can necessarily be “taught”...he approach as a leader, so called, is so fundamentally flawed on every level..the results of his chosen profession testify to it..
  6. ...I perceived this was said by Mr Johnson with a motive of intending to somehow leverage and influence the ADs decision...what arrogance..as if the Husker program will yield a thing to unproven, 17-18 young man who has done NOTHING in collegiate carreer...I guess the dad didn’t get memo, that max effort in practice optional, lax atmosphere is about to come crushing down and his son probably be weeded out by new coach anyway for being soft and undisciplined.
  7. ...It’s a complete enigma wrapped in a riddle to me how in the world Mike Riley, having Mr Bear Bryant as a coach, didn’t pick up on how a program is built and sustained..how did he go from playing under that hard man...and then once a coach himself, gravitates to finesse, timid, no structure and accountability atmosphere he certainly believes in..? Basketball on football field type mindset..2nd or 3rd and 8...call up a 4 yard pass.! That mindset/paradigm to the game just kills me..
  8. ...It’s a complete enigma wrapped in a riddle to me how in the world Mike Riley, having Mr Bear Bryant as a coach, didn’t pick up on how a program is built and sustained..how did he go from playing under that hard man...and then once a coach himself, gravitates to finesse, timid, no structure and accountability atmosphere he certainly believes in..? Basketball on football field type mindset..2nd or 3rd and 8...call up a 4 yard pass.! That mindset/paradigm to the game just kills me.. I won’t miss him as a coach..I will say he was classy and handled his being held accountable very professional, I commend that
  9. Riley is truly in a delusional state now..he stated..” I’m the guy to bring NU football back..”...reallly coach 19-19...or something like that in your 3years..? He is exactly what he has been for 20+ years..a .500 coach who WAY to used to, and comfortable with losing..
  10. I think you missed the bigger premise of my point.. Wisconsin also recruits a HS player with a certain profile/future ability to be a road grader..and Wisconsin actually devotes and Believes in practicing their rushing offense , not Riley’s snap ball and stand up and backpeddle in pass protection
  11. ..the LJS and OWH select reporters have been covering football for years, some a decade now, I wonder why Mark Phillip is being glossed over.. ...just one object example is Our O Line...perhaps 40% body fat..? virtually NO core (butt, thigh ) power and absolutely unacceptable upper body strength...and why in the world are senior lineman on the pine and young weak players starting..? It appears in Division 1 Big ten football, it take 4 years to build, physically, a offensive and defensive lineman powerful enough to compete..Rfreshm and sophomore starters all over the place..? The whole Development process is so broken in every way..when a man, specifically a lineman, who has been in the program 4-5 years is on the bench..something is seriously amiss..
  12. ..I remember a postgame presser once of Nick saben..he was absolutely livid that the opposition did what they did to his team and how his teams execution was unacceptable...Saben won that game...let that sink in..that’s the expectation and detail orientaed approach to coaching he has... ...this is what will remedy Husker football, nothing fancy, keep,it simple. Have the players run it in practice until it’s perfect..turn on the practice lights if need be..accountably and the balls to implement it is what will remedy Husker football..mike Reilly has none of these attributes..he lax on details and it sure does show..look at the sidelines during GAMES....players sitting down, talking with fans, laughing, helmets off..I’m so sick of this garbage Reilly allows..everyone should have their helmet on, standing up and supporting the ones on field..
  13. ...someone said above this is a PR nightmare, and serious organizational problems that are at and on the ADs table now..I hope he has a spine to him..cause in the foreseeable short future, the football program is in a. complete tail spin and it’s not crashed yet..it’s going to get far worse.. ...what concerns me..is what coach in the world will choose walk into this buzz saw..and address the systemic issues..it’s not just a X and Os that the next coach needs to teach, the new guy has to flip the culture that. Mike Reilly created..in dong so, many, many players must be weeded out..got to crack some eggs to make a omelet..what s huge undertaking for the next coach, it will require the know-how obviously, but more than that is required, he MUST be a hard a+#... as changing a soft, timid organization/environment into a fierce one is a dauntig task, requiring a special, peculiar individual...
  14. ..this team is the result and reflecton of the climate that permeates from the head coach, these players and coach’s have to operate in it..it’s a soft, lax, and flat out lazy approach to football. This is a detailed oriented sport and the best position and head coaches have one thing in Common..they will not let players off the hook until a attainable level of perfection/execution is displayed.. mike Reillys whole ideology and approach to the game is so dysfunctional....they dont practice the way they should...and they play what they practice...I personally think the offensive and/ defense should come off field in practice until the players run the play perfectly..I so sick of the 400 play playbook but the unto as a whole can’t execute just 1 flawlessly....I firmly believe a team that can run 15 plays to perfection, it would be far better than the circus, basketball on football field offense Mike Reilly has been indoctrinated into using his whole football life...2nd and 6 and he call up a 4 years pass..I’m so sick of this appprach and staff..
  15. ...ha..I agree...! I know went on tangent...need to work on that..
  16. If i, as just a fan and my only football experience is one year playing in HS can see the seriousl imbedded issues, I’m quite certain a professional such as Mr Moos is absolutely locked on and seeing this... ...personally I can’t make or form any definitive conclusions about coach Diaco..I can however observe serious systematic problems, as anyone can see these things, they are so,transparent. It’s the norm for our defense to not be lined up properly and specifically individual players are out of their assigned position over and over.. ..I’m talking about the Husker run defense in this post. As how a team defends the run IMO is the best tool to evaluate a coach, a program, players, the whole, entire football program can be evaluated in many aspects by analyzing the run defense . ...run defense reveals the strength program effectiveness, it absolutely reveals the coordinator and specifically the position coaches in their ability to know and teach a individual where their assignment is and what gap they own.. I rewind allot of plays to really discern why the opponent run just went for 10+ yards..I see the cause over and over..the player is Simply not there..our linebackers oft fall for a misdirection run play or the player who was supposed to be in that hole/gap is nowhere to be found...this is not only a coaching problem but a player problem also..I perceive there is little or no leaders on defensive side that will correct a teammate, in real time regarding alignment and ensuring they get set up properly...this should be on a linebacker...I see a 11 individuals playing defense, I don’t see a team playing as such..and bad tackling angles and positioning prior to tackling is at a high school level.. ...as any fan already know, a compelling case could be made Our linemen on both sides could be the most physically weak, out of shape, and timid that Huskers have had since I’ve been watching them (1991)... the “why” is complex and multifaceted, but I’m persuaded it is in fact rooted in Mike Reilly himself...I’ve never been a coach however that’s irrelevant, I’ve been a organizational leader and certain things, methodologies and phenom transcend the field one is working is.. ....make no mistake Mike Reilly mindset and approach to the game itself is absolutely the root cause of what we are seeing..IMO.. I suppose a statement like that needs to be backed up.. ..mike Reilly is indoctrinated into a certain type of football that he adopted a long, long time ago and committed to, changing this or him “changing” his whole approach will not happen, I don’t think he could if he wanted to..He had been wired to ascribe to a certain kind of football.. ..his approach is a fineness, PASS FIRST mentality to to football itself...I don’t care what he says, as he talks the right things about running the ball, however he doesn’t truly know how to do what he claims he wants to do, because again he is limited to work within in own paradigm...and he can’t reconcile how to retain his pass happy, basketball of football field approach to the game... ...the proof is in our linemen’s physical profile itself and their play..I’m not meaning talent or ability per say..we all know they have about none of both..I’m talking about what they practice..in practice..and that’s PASS blocking 80% of practice time..players do what they practice, being a Soldier for 21 can testify to this ideology/reality... ...what does emphasis on Pass blocking have and what’s the second and third order of affects..? 1) recruiting, Reilly must and does recruit players who fit his approach to the game..he goes to high schools that do not build their offense around rhe run.. 2) he recruits a certain body type that fits his failed offensive paradigm, tall lanky linemen.. 3) is it a coincidence that pass happy football produces soft, timid and ultimately ineffective at run blocking ..IMO no it not a coincidence.. ..back to practice..the O line gets it drilled into their muscle memory, at snap of ball, stand up, hands up and then go BACKWARDS in pass protection...pass blocking creates a timid, soft offensive lineman..as we clearly see.. ..if Riley meant what he said about wanting to run the ball, here is the the truth test to his claim..watch (if he is still here) the profile of linemen he recruits this year..if it’s the 6’5’ lanky type from pass offensive HS, then he either lied about his run goal or he is absolutely incompetent in what he needs to do to accomplish his goal..I’m swayed to believe both are in effect..if he starts to recruit shorter “squatty” linemen, 6’1”- 6’3” with huge core (butt, thighs) ..well then he may in fact he doing something to achieve what he claims to want to do.. ..all this leads to abject failure when they must launch forward in run blocking... ..I can’t believe I wrote all this..I suppose it’s been eating at me for years and this garbage we see our football program makes me nauseous..I think on the character of Osborne, his intense perfectionist approach to the teaching fundamentals of the game to the players, rather creating a environment where his subordinate position coaches can focus on basics..and excellence in the basics will win a big ten title.. Mike Reilly mindset to football is timid and weak, and sadly it absolutely gets transferred to every player, some more than others.. ...for more proof of Reilly bad, Soft influence/environment /culture he has created..watch the Husker kickoff and punt team.when they kick/punt..and watch them closely..this is when the huskers to go down the field and can legal just level anybody that attempts to block them..However players run down the field and then slow down, moments to the point they reach the point of their blocker, and then they around the man that are blocking them... this is just a capsule that really shows the whole culture of the football team kick off and punt coverage ... v/r Depressed Husker

  18. ...I suppose today should give ample evidence of a failed organizational leader, Mr Reilly and his methodology/approach to the game..the next coach must build his offensive around the focus of building a rushing based offensive system and stop recruiting these pass blocking profile body types...that have no no core power to go forward, only backwards in pass protection..and have insanely slow footwork..and go back to recruiting the passed over smaller, squatty type lineman that come from hard nosed, rushing offensive HS programs that can go FORWARDS...
  19. ..As anyone who reads local papers regarding Husker football and the writers that follow and report/write on Huskers, they generally seem to put together good articles. However they like a bunch of vulchers on Diaco, and how they are covering him shows their lack of social intelligence..they just bash him in their articles, specifically of his quotes/responses to questions and I’ll have to side with Diaco on this one issue. The nature of some of these idiots questions put Diaco, a leader, in a horrible position, and the ones asking these questions should absolutely have awareness of the position it puts the subject in.. ...they keep hounding him about his self refuting or contradictory answers to their questions..I take a step back and put myself in his position..which is very easy, cause I have been, not as Coach, but as a organizational leader, and certain things like this transcend the type of organization and thus irrelevant... ..he gets placed in a dilemma by these jerk reporters questions..I perceive the man wants to tell the truth, however stating the “truth” in this aspect, to a reporter is anything but helpful. He knows full well the Husker Defensive woes always start the same place defensive success starts..with the three down linemen...He knows these 3 are physically weak, due to both youth and failures in the whole lifting and nutrition program at Nebraska, case in point, Husker O line averages 37% body fat..12% over the average percentage of the top CFP team O lines going back 3 years.. ...would a leader of any virtue or character say this to a reporter..”my 3 linemen are not physically strong enough to control their gap..”...is that what the reporter want to hear..? So, Diaco is now conflicted, lie or tell the truth, that’s why he’s stumbling all over his words..IMO the Media just needs to leave the dang man alone for awhile... ..it’s all upfront, it doesn’t take a coach to know it’s always the linemen that drive success, in the case, it’s 3 due to the scheme.. ..I’ve seen mick stoltenberg get tossed out of his gap like a fly.. ..I posted awhile back on Husker strength methodologies are a absolute failure, evidence is seen every game..I’ve seen, I think every O linemen now get driven back and pancaked in the backfield..no explosive launch whatsoever...I guess squats are optional under mike Riley.. i watch navy games every year..have you all seen how they fire off the ball..? I mean they explode and give teams fits... .Diaco had success at NT Dame for many reasons, not all of them was he responsible for said success..he had powerful, powerful rush ends and nose guard/tackle.. ..when you have DEs and NTs like he had, (DE pictured below) ...the defense WILL have succes.. This is truitt I believe..I remember seeing him play under Diaco and very much remember his combine metrics..he bench pressed 30 or 31 reps..(for reference Suh did 34 I believe) exemplification
  20. ..this behavior of Mike Reilly is textbook definition of delusional..I really think he is absolutely blinded and in denial of the reality of his organization...I see the sidelines and players sitting down, talking to fans..man what failure of a environment Riley has created and allows..these players are out of control, coaches are baffled..it’s a circus..I watched movie water boy again awhile back..Mike Reilly is about a carbon copy of the coach in that movie..
  21. ..a competent leader can recognize hard to see causes to his organizational failures that are happening, he can see the root, not the superficial symptoms...well, Mike Reilly does not have this ability. His whole methodology and approach to football is counter productive. Look at his offensive style, it’s reslly a pass heavy ideology..so I practice what’s are the linemen doing..practing going backwards in pass protection...this fosters a passive, soft mentality as this type of blocking is not violent in nature at all compared to the techniques of run blocking..this line plays exactly what they practice..Riley is absolutely clueless that it’s his own offensive style he choose which is simply not right for his players and IMO not right at all..
  22. ...about 8 minuets into game last night I saw a event that encapsulates the whole thing, number 76 I believe, right tackle pancaked by D tackle right into the handoff area where Lee handed ball to RB..I reminded about 10 times and watched..this d tackle exploded straight into number 76 chest and he went straight back and onto his back ..It was probably the most embarrassing thing to witness of the night.. ..and what ensued is example of poor, weak, timid leadership..that player should have immediately been pulled and told to ride the pine until he decides to play football..but of course he remained in game.
  23. Anyone else also Notice things occurring with Mike Riley teams and what he allows ..Look on the sidelines during the games you’ll see players sitting on the bench talking and talking with the fans that did not happen under Coach Tom Osborne you were standing, you were standing and observing the football field. Mike Riley and is the absolute core problem. Players reflect his attitude and philosophy
  24. ...I agree, I’m persuaded it is directly linked to my thread I started about the physical strength of this team and the failed methodology into building their bodies..i have no PhD in this area, however it doesn’t require on to know the best injury prevention one can do, is to make your body as strong as possible...that’s not happening.. ..it’s a byproduct of Mike Reilly’s overall philosophy to the game of football, he is extremely soft and he believes in a “finesse”style of play...that’s a failure of a approach.. ...i remember well the documentaries and player interviews from the 90s and they confessed a very revealing truth behind their success... Zach Weigert and others said “we looked forward to Saturday all week...because game day was a break from practice..”
  25. ...i hear often the how today’s college football has “changed, progressed, and evolved “ compared to the 90s generation of Football. In context the people who keep, regurgitating this are inferring how today’s football is somehow better, more advanced, faster etc.. this whole premise is insane crazy, and I can’t help but wonder do the people saying this, did they really watch 90s college football? The 90s top continuall top 20 teams were bigger, faster, stronger and way more physical.thanthe current top 20 teams. Today it’s,like watching basketball on a football field..5 yard pass game offense... ”they” say how much the game has changed..inferring advancement..I disagree 1000%...the field is same size, I believe blocking, tackling and running are still involved..i also observe the commentators saying this are about 30 years old and haven’t seen first hand the bruising football style of the 90s... ..about any 90s, Florida st, Miami, Huskers and several more could and would run over the current continual top 15 programs of Tóday.
