  1. But if things don't start to turn around pronto we'll be recruiting at a top 50 level. Kind of a cascade effect. That's an even bigger problem. IMHO we are starting to see this with the current class.
  2. My thoughts exactly before a word was spoken. Who does things like this? At least they got the exposure about as good as could be expected on the faces.
  3. I'm all for giving him every chance in the world, more so than if we would have hired an outsider. If any other coach would have come in and gone 12-20 the fan base would would have gone absolutely ballistic. I look at where we were with Riley after 3 years and he was 19-19. Unless things just totally go to hell this year I can't see him not getting at least 5 seasons but as in any organization should and will be evaluations every year. I really hoping they go 8-4 then we won't be discussing this again any time soon. And best wishes to Trev. He has my support.
  4. You can't be serious. His current contract runs though the 2026 season. If, hypothetically, things don't turn around you would retain a coach through 9 consecutive losing seasons? Keeping a coach around no matter what his record would send a loud and clear message you all but given up on winning as well lost your mind. How about evaluating the coach as things go forward instead of a blanket we're keeping him hell or high water attitude. And don't worry about sending out a message about Husker football being dead.12-20 under Frost, 31-39 the last six years and 1 bowl appearance since the 2014 season has pretty well taken care of that.
  5. You can't possibly know that unless you have clairvoyant powers no other human possesses.
  6. Truer words were never spoken. I don't think it will happen but then again last year I didn't think a 2 win team who's coach would be fired at season end would take us out behind the woodshed and thoroughly pummel us either.
  7. I think age would be working against Cook. In few years we would be doing this all over again. I'd really like to see somebody come in and be successful in the long haul. Plus, from what I've heard the VB recruiting class this year is like #1 in nation and destined for great things. I'd hate to see the most successful sport at the University upset by losing their coach.
  8. I think most expected him to come in and at least be at the W/L level Riley was after 3 years, not 12-20. If he was 16-16 I don't think we would be having this conversation.
  9. I agree. No doubt the pandemic had a more detrimental effect on NU recruiting than most other schools. Still, if HCSF was 20-12 or even 16-16 it would be a hell of a lot easier to sell the his vision. Combine COVID-19 with what has happened the first 3 years of his tenure and you get a class that is currently rank #57 (247).
  10. I was looking at those ratings yesterday and just shake my head at the talent those top schools are able to reel in. But OSU is in the stratosphere compared to even the elite programs. Four 5 stars & eleven 4 stars! With the coaching and organization they have it is going to be hard for anybody in the B1G to compete with them. When I look at where NU in comparison it just makes me sad.
  11. The part of that that I don't understand is how is how is this all going to play out with a new AD coming in. When they do the interviews, do they tell them the job description is being in charge of the athletic department's future including all employees, coaches, projects etc. etc. - expect the football coach who you must give at least x more years turn things around? If you they are thinking that why not just slap the interim title on Klassy and let him ride it out? I don't see too many top level candidates walking into a situation where there hands are tied with regards to the head football coach, especially at a place like NU where the football program pays all the bills.
  12. To me it looks more like gone into a tailspin. I'm used to losing recruiting battles but this year with the top instate players going elsewhere, legacies going elsewhere and all of the players we have been in on but lost it is looking pretty grim. Hard to sell you vision when you are 12-20.
  13. Couldn't have said it better. And our current recruiting position and spate of losses on the recruiting trail this class only put an exclamation point on it. Do or die year IMHO. If things go like his first 3 years I see things getting much worse in trying to get quality players to consider NU even if he is here for another year, which with a new AD seems quite unlikely them more I think about it. A good year and some big wins could turn things around though.
  14. I agree. No reason to go to the trouble and expense of a national search if you plan on hiring in house.
  15. Well, 19-16 with no losing seasons is sure a hell of lot better than 12-20 with no winning seasons. But the culture and relationships are just as concerning.
  16. That play will be forever etched in my memory. Niles Paul catches a beautiful pass in stride from Lee and proceeds to drop the ball as he avoids going out of bounds on the left sideline. Then he manages to scoop it up about at about the 6 yard line then fumbles it again as he hits ground at the 1 and ISU recovers it in the endzone. That whole game was a Keystone Cops display of ineptitude.
  17. I figured with the sudden nature of his "retirement" they would have somebody to fill the job this week. After all, we've been down this road a few times. The only thing I can figure is they wanted him out and it needed to be before the end of the fiscal year. But once again we are in search mode with the job vacant.
  18. That is a pretty easy one for me too. I don't follow BB much but everything I've heard and read is this recruiting class looks to be one of the best, if not the best, in NU history. The current football class, not so much. It could turn out OK if they start winning this fall or go the other way if this year is like the first 3.
  19. I was going to write the same thing. If they can get 6, 7 or 8 (dreaming) wins this whole conversation becomes a non-issue. At least for the time being. If not, I think we are in trouble no what they do about the head coach. Sellout streak is already coming under serious pressure and I believe recruiting this year is seeing the results of years of being a poor program. Continue to lose and it will only get worse. When Frost was hired a lot of people, including myself, expressed the opinion that in the unlikely event things went south under his leadership we could really be up the creek without a paddle. Well, that time is precariously close. I honestly think this is could be the most important season for Husker football in my lifetime.
  20. With what happened with Moos nobody really knows but if they were to be worse this year, like 3-9, I don't see much hope of another year for HCSF. You need to see some signs of improvement in year 4 which we have not seen in his first 3 years. 6 wins & a bowl and I think he is safe IMHO.
  21. I've got news for you, nobody takes us seriously now and haven't for the past few years.
  22. He seems to check ALL the boxes we would be looking for in our next AD. And he is young enough that if things work out well he could be there for a long time.
  23. Certainly the highest QB recruit we've been in on in recent memory. Has already visited 'bama, Clemson, TX and is going to ND next week. Pretty incredible for a kid that didn't even start at the varsity level last year. We are lucky he is a legacy which at least gets our foot in the door but with all the early interest it will be a tough get IMHO. But a whole lot can happen in the next 2 ½ years.
  24. Understandable, looking at the results from the first 3 years of HCSF & staff have been here. I think the recruiting struggles we are seeing make 2021 a do-or-die season. No more excuses. Show some movement upward, even 7 wins and maybe a signature win gives them something to point to for the future. But another 4 or 5 win season and things are only going to get worse.
  25. Maybe a case of taking a raw player to develop or not taking a QB at all in the class. With the trajectory of the program, losing seasons 5 of the last 6 years and no bowls I can't imagine too many top tier QB's even would consider NU at this point.
