  1. If you watch Breon Dixon's h.s. highlight film, he could very well be a similar type player to Griffin if he can add the weight. I think we're going to see plenty of similarities in Nebraska's offense and defense to what UCF did, but what I love about these coaches is that they seem to keep changing and adapting to stay ahead of the opponent. I think Griffin was a great player and an amazing story. They used him so much because he had a lot of success. It is also very possible they used him in that role so much because they didn't quite have the other playmakers around him that could do similar things. I fully expect to see the defense have several stars in a few years once Chinander gets his scheme installed and the right guys on campus. There's no reason they can't have a Griffin-type player at each OLB spot and a Hughes-type player at each CB. Throw in a solid DL, ILB, and Safety crew... and the Blackshirts will be back!
  2. Besides scheme and having a mobile QB to help, I'd say one of the biggest things that helped the OL succeed was their ability to get off the ball quickly and use technique to beat defensive linemen to the spot. Against Auburn they didn't really have much success pushing the DL around, but they got into their man and made them work hard to make a play. In that game Auburn had 1 sack and 2 TFL, which is pretty good against anyone, let alone a much more talented SEC team. I see this year having lots of growing pains, but I'm excited to see an OL that no longer gets compared to swiss cheese, a sieve, a marshmallow, a wet paper bag, etc.
  3. UCF had a 240 LB running back that got 38 carries last year, so it's very possible he could be a short yardage guy. That can make RunTheBallGuy happy if a fullback gets a touch this year.
  4. There is no place for the garbage this kid is trying to spread, but it's times like these that can really bring out the best in people too. I'm proud of this team and I hope they use this to unify even more than they already have. They are in a great position to make themselves heard as student athletes at one of the best colleges in the country. GBR
  5. Hasn't been confirmed, but I'd be shocked if he didn't. We'll see who else leaves, but there are a few that would be obvious because they've been non-contributors. It always seems like one big contributor takes off too, though.
  6. 1. Cam Jones 2. Miles Jones 3. Caleb Tannor 4. Tate Wildeman 5. Dominick Watt 6. Adrian Martinez Sleeper: Katerian Legrone
  7. I find it interesting (and rather encouraging) that Nebraska is right behind Auburn, Alabama, and Texas. A few decent years on the field can only help the Husker brand get even better. And this speaks even more to why it was important for Frost and his staff to coach UCF and constantly be getting attention from the National media.
  8. I think Northwestern might get in trouble with the Big Ten Compliance department. 86 commits is a tad over the limit
  9. Maybe, but I wouldn't put much stock in past production from any position. I don't doubt we'll see departures, but I also wouldn't be surprised to see some grad transfers in.
  10. He said himself it wasn't a committable offer, and that's also why he took an unofficial visit instead of official. They absolutely wanted more than 1 lineman in the class, so when 3 or 4 of their top targets said no, he moved up from plan F to plan B behind Canty. If Canty had said no, I bet Robinson would have been in. Now, do you take him as well in order to get more numbers and help depth, knowing his ceiling is probably the second string? Or, do you take what you have, develop the talent on the roster, and find some good targets for next year with a higher ceiling? We'll see what Frost does.
  11. I agree that you have to recruit on potential and it takes time to develop good O-linemen. I'm not saying this guy couldn't be good, he could turn out to be great. I like how well he moves and he seems to be really aggressive. My point is we have plenty of potential already on the roster. We will have 16 offensive linemen on scholarship next year, 10 of which are underclassmen. These guys were no schmucks coming out of high school. There are players already here, and they need to be developed. We can't overload one position at the expense of others. I think the staff will take the spring to see what they have, set their goals for roster balancing, and then start addressing position needs in the 2019 class.
  12. A little more on this. Here are the linemen currently on scholarship, class for the 2018 season, and their 247 composite coming out of high school: Matt Sichterman - RFr. - .8757 Broc Bando - RFr. - .8412 Chris Walker - RFr. - .8411 (I'm not convinced he stays on the OL, he loves Defense) John Raridon - So. - .9452 Matt Farniok - So. - .8934 Bryan Brokop - So. - .8847 Brendan Jaimes - So. - .8797 Boe Wilson - So. - .8559 Jalin Barnett - Jr. - .9219 Christian Gaylord - Jr. - .8715 Michael Decker - Jr. - .8543 Tanner Farmer - Sr. - .9021 Jerald Foster - Sr. - .8915 Cole Conrad - Sr. - N/A Knevel & Gates are the only 2 leaving from this year, so with the 2 new scholarship OL, the numbers will be the same next year (barring attrition) The cupboard isn't bare. There will be 10 OL that are Freshmen or Sophomores in 2018, and 6 upperclassmen. Some of these guys were pretty highly rated. Give them a chance with a new scheme and new coaching staff. I think they'll surprise lots of people.
  13. He was with Cam'ron Jones when they talked to him, and they both made it sound like he was surely coming. My guess: He hasn't signed the paperwork that says he is going to walk on. They had 17? listed as walk-ons, and I think they have 20 committed, so there may be a couple others in the same boat.
  14. 2019 may be an exception with some highly rated in-state guys, but for the most part, Nebraska kids are going to drag the average down. Frost has said multiple times he wants to keep Nebraska guys home, and maybe he'll do it mostly with the walk-on program, but the guys that deserve scholarships are still rarely going to be above a 3-star average. I see no problem with this unless your goal is to get highly ranked classes. Give scholarships out to the ones that deserve it, try to get a bunch of walk-ons, and then go get the best players you can from anywhere in the country. 500-mile radius is fine, but recruiting hotbeds where the coaches have ties works just fine too.
  15. But you don't just take guys to take them. Frost said yesterday their goal was to get the best players they could, and only get guys that they're confident can help the team. This would probably end up being the biggest reach in the class if they took him. Perhaps he develops into a good player, but the need isn't that high, and the risk is high. To lock up a scholarship for 4-5 years on someone they aren't sure could ever help the team would be a mistake IMO. I have no problem with them taking a full year to develop relationships and get a couple really good DL and OL in the next class. This isn't a 1 year turnaround, that's why Frost got a 7 year contract.
  16. Agree - Purdue's inside game is a terrible match-up for Nebraska, though if this team really clicks they could beat about anyone in the country.
  17. I see this staff filling that with a walk-on or two.
  18. The big negative that I heard about him was that his hands aren't reliable. Who knows how true that is, but you aren't going to see it on a highlight film.
  19. He signed with IWCC, so IF he qualifies academically for D1 after this semester, he could sign with a DI team for the next recruiting cycle. (1 semester at IWCC) If he fails to qualify academically for a D1 school after this semester, he must get his Associates Degree from IWCC (minimum 3 semesters) and could sign with a D1 school for the 2020 recruiting class
  20. FYI: Nebraska currently has 88 scholarships accounted for, meaning we will see a minimum of 3 more transfers/medical scholarships before fall camp. As of now, there will be 16 seniors on scholarship this season, meaning we can sign a class of 19 (16 +3 oversign) next year. With a year to go, I fully expect to have the 2019 class be similar in size to this 2018 class due to attrition.
  21. I think a grad transfer or 2019 recruit is next
  22. I agree they are very solid, I just think they might want someone to help with depth at NT after Stolt leaves next year. Not saying many of the other guys can't play that position with how this staff sees it - I'm just guessing. I think Damion Daniels will be good, D. Thomas already flashed his potential, and obviously the Davis twins can be studs.
  23. It sounds like Coach Frost is going to take a little time off, and that's very much deserved. His wife and son are still in Orlando, and he's been putting in so many hours and basically getting to watch his son's first few months through FaceTime. As a coach with a baby at home, I know how hard it is on the family. I hope fans can appreciate his dedication, but cut the guy a little slack as well if things aren't perfect. We're lucky to have him, and I'm thankful his family is willing to share him.
  24. Frost said during his presser that there were 2 OV's left (was guessing) in case they needed them later. I would assume for a transfer possibility.
