  1. As near as I can make out, here is a list of Nebraska's all time highest rated recruits: https://247sports.com/college/nebraska/Sport/Football/AllTimeRecruits/ See how many you remember.
  2. Correlation vs. causality? Does Saban have a winning team because he gets all of the starred recruits or do all of the starred recruits go to Saban because he is a winning coach and coaches his players to be winners?
  3. I am of the opinion that coaching plus strength and conditioning trumps all the stars ever given out. Some may get the vapors when I mention Pelini, but he took a bench warming wide receiver in Stanley Jean-Baptiste and made him into a NFL caliber cornerback. (2nd round pick). Also, does anybody remember how many stars Danny Woodhead had going in the recruiting season? It's not where one starts out, it's where one ends up. So I will, for my part, ignore all talk of "good recruiting classes" or "poor recruiting classes" and wait to see what the finished product looks like on the field...but it IS the off season, so knock yourselves out. It passes the time.
  4. I would think that an underwhelming performance might actually HELP land some recruits. Coach goes in and says, "We really need some linebacker help, we are razor thin in the depth chart and struggling with the starters." Recruit thinks, "I have a shot at playing right away and not having to wait until I am a 5th year Senior to see the field." Of course, saying the same thing about your O-line isn't going to help anybody land a quarterback. Just spit balling here, so I can't defend this silver lining in a dark cloud.
  5. I would say turnovers figure in there just as prominently, if not moreso.
  6. It's not where one starts, it is where one finishes. Sort of like starting out losing 19-0 against Arizona and then claiming a national championship in the Orange Bowl. When did you give up on Frost as a quarterback during that time?
  7. That "Texas pipeline" thing is a myth unless you are Oklahoma. Texas is 70-65 the last ten years and claims first dibs on the "Texas pipeline". It doesn't seem to be a magic elixir for them. I would much rather my team hook into Florida. Same as they did with Osborne or they do now with Saban. It happens.
  8. LOL, Why yes, I have. I even write some of it at times. How about you? I am not going to argue about the future. Just mentioned what we already know. Last word is yours.
  9. Okay, then let me fix it for you: 4-8* 5-7** * correcting roster mismanagement that had been going on for the better part of 10 yrs ** lost 95% of the previous two yrs recruits in order to course correct culture
  10. Report post Posted 9 hours ago He received an extension Five years on his first contract...minus two that are gone...plus a two year contract extension. That was the math I used.
  11. 4-8 and 5-7 with Scott Frost as head coach at Nebraska. That is not feelings, it is not thoughts, nor opinions and not arrogance, or even ego. That's what it is. Those are the facts. It's history. I wouldn't want anybody else next year but Scott Frost as our head coach, but you need to not let YOUR feelings, thoughts and opinions get out in front of the facts. Scott Frost is doing slightly worse than any head coach at Nebraska in the last 50 years. That is the bad news. The good news is he has five more years to make everybody forget the first two. I hope he does. However, one can't praise what hasn't happened yet.
  12. I could have swore I saw more than one quarterback play in the Iowa game. One of them looked pretty fit.
  13. Actually, it would just transfer the criticism to Frost because he is playing an injured quarterback instead of one of his backups.
  14. I remember the announcer commenting on another Nebraska making a rolling motion with his fingers and then throwing up his hands in a "WTF" manner at the offending player.
  15. LOL, Spielman DID fair catch one on the 2! Also, letting the ball go inside the ten rather than fair catch eliminates the chance of a muffed catch or fumble. The only thing worse than 1st and 10 Nebraska on their own 8 yard line is 1st and goal opponent on Nebraska's 8 yard line because we tried to save three yards.
  16. As far as the "mental acuity" part, I saw two three four instances of plays that might point to needing an improvement in this area: 1. Lamar Jackson pulling up in anticipation of a tackle...that was missed and resulted in a touchdown 2. A fumble on the sideline where several players pulled up and didn't go for the ball until they finally heard the entire sideline screaming at them to go get it. 3. Continued fair catches inside the ten yard line. 4. Downing the ball on a punt before it has time to roll farther down the field. Back in the day, this was lumped under "hustle", and was a quality a player had, just like speed or strength or the like. Some had it, some didn't. Watching Frost yell at the special teams to run off the field as they slowly trudged towards the bench after another disappointing play might clue us that the coach sees this as well.
  17. If one is going to assign some sort of value connecting Frazier's coaching record into whether one should listen to him, then that means that Frost should eagerly await any pearls of wisdom cast by Mike Riley because Riley currently has a better record coaching at Nebraska than Scott Frost. Mind you, I don't think that will be lasting, but it IS possible for somebody to be a crummy college football coach and still be right about some things...or be a crummy football coach and be wrong about some things. The two aren't necessarily connected.
  18. Ohio State Oklahoma Clemson LSU Actually, flip a coin for the top two.
  19. Well, he wouldn't have been the only one guilty of that this year, would he?
  20. NEBRASKA FOOTBALL PLAYERS BRING HOME A BOWL GAME TROPHY TO THE STATE! CONGRATULATIONS, UNK LOPERS!!!
  21. Yep, Nebraska football players are going to a bowl game...just not the football players from Lincoln. https://www.kearneyhub.com/sports/college/unk/lopers-headed-to-bowl-game-for-second-time-in-unk/article_f01b9c0e-0a8f-11ea-9a16-ab4b5d9d9932.html I went to the UNK-Central Missouri game. UNK lost in the last 25 seconds after a back and forth, up and down battle. It was an exciting game, including a UNK touchdown catch that rivaled the one Matt Davidson made again Missouri. Go Lopers!
  22. My take is that there are a lot of people who get paid to sort this out. I'm not one of them, so I am not going to try to guide the process in a football forum for free.
  23. This doesn't have anything to do when I used to fight on this forum endlessly with the overwhelming majority by saying Bo Pelini was a better coach than Mike Riley, does it?...or am I the only one that remembers those epic battles?
  24. Scott Frost will be at Nebraska for five years, MINIMUM. We have no other choice unless NU wants to take a huge hit financially and image wise. NU has no other options at this time and maybe most importantly, Frost is (in my opinion) still the best candidate to turn things around, especially if he can learn from his mistakes.
